No SEC QB no more Butch

Posted: 5/28/2014 2:44 PM

No SEC QB no more Butch

Butch has had two recruiting classes to bring in his QB. He has signed 2 QBs and one is now gone. I did not see SEC skills from Dobbs.

Next year when the rest of the team is getting up to SEC championship caliber we will have to pin our hopes on a freshman.

Maybe good QBs don't want to run around the edge on a play fake every play and look like an idiot.

This post is gonna get slammed by the coach is great crowd and while I think CBJ has alot to prove in the win/loss column I disagree with you about Dobbs. While I don't know if he will ever be an all sec qb I do believe that he will play winning football at the helm. Those thinking Fergie was our savior obviously don't remember Brandon Stewart.

Apparently, Ferguson did not have SEC skills, either.  The team is better off without him.  Don't despair yet, man.

After being thrown into the fire in his first game action, against the #1 team in the nation, than the #10 team in the nation, and then the #7 team - you've seen enough to know that Dobbs is not an SEC level QB?

Man, you're good.

Me, i'm not as good. I'll just wait and see how Dobbs does with a full offseason of weight training, learning the system, and see how he does against someone else otheerthan Alabama on the road in his first game and SEC champion and title-game participant Auburn.

Don't make to much sense Greenevol his head may explode!! Dobbs get's thrown to the wolves so to speak his freshman year and then plays very well in the Spring Game, Ferg actually looked the worst in the spring. I have seen many Qb's not look very good when the were true freshman only to develop into very good even great Qb's. I have alot of faith that Dobbs is going to be a very good QB, I think it is obvious he is very smart and devoted to his game I have no doubt that he won't be a good one. GO VOLS!!

Didn't Peyton throw an interception against

Bama near the goal line and  in the last few minutes that sealed the loss in his freshman year. Guess he wasn't SEC material either. I think Dobbs can still be a GREAT QB at UT and especially in the system Butch has. He has ALL of the tools and, to be honest, it was a tough year last year for him, but it was a tough year for most people that wore Orange last year. I thought he showed some real Grit at Bama.

How many freshmen, without some real talent around them, just come in and light it up cold-turkey? I thought he did about as good as he could considering.

As for the play fake thing, if you watch Peyton I think you will note he does a pretty good job of carrying out play fakes, etc. Probably because he is smart enough to know that it sometimes comes down to one or two plays, one or two guys that are out of position, and one or two results that can decide a game.

Exactly what makes an SEC QB anyway? Not every team has one.

Re: No SEC QB no more Butch

Can anyone tell me how not signing a QB that fits his system last year was a good thing?

I just do not get it.

Potential fatal error.

Re: No SEC QB no more Butch

My first game in Neyland was 1968 vs Ole Miss. Soph Archie Manning didnt look like a SEC qb that day either....not saying Dobbs is a AM by any stretch but you cant tell alot about a true freshman QB.... just not fair.

Maybe because we already had FOUR QB's returning, with essentially one QB for each recruiting class.  And, there may not have been a good fit available.  Now, we can probably sign two next year.

Re: No SEC QB no more Butch

It might make it easier to sign a better QB this year, knowing that the other QBs are 2 years ahead of him eligibility-wise.  Especially if he thinks that Dobbs can grow into the roll.

Re: No SEC QB no more Butch

I know. You are making my point.

Dobbs is the only QB that was a true Butch recruit. I am troubled beyond belief that he could not sign a QB last year. He certainly had room to do so. How can you build a football team without a solid base at QB?

I guess Butch is willing to give up the 2015 year too. I just don't know if that is a good thing or not. I guess we can look forward to 2016.

They had 4 QB's on the roster. They still have 3.

How many QB's do you need to have "a solid base at QB"? 5? 8? More?

They'll have 2 in 2015 plus however many they sign this class.

Re: No SEC QB no more Butch

Hey Keith, watch a little more football and then make statements. I would like to see you post after the upcoming season is over to see if you have learned anything.

Dobbs is going to be very good. CBJ will sign two QB's this recruiting class. Last year we needed many more players than QB's to make this team relevant again.

Once again, I will leave the recruiting stuff to the head coach who has a hell of a lot more experience in doing it than Keith.

Well, i feel better now. I wondered when this would get started. Now, it only takes having a player transfer to get somebody fired up enough to determine that we do not have the talent level at a position to compete in the SEC and it is all Butch Jones fault.
