Bold Draft predictions

we are officially a week away!!!

so i thought it would be fun to post some bold predictions and then check back and see how close/far off we were!

my first bold prediction: keenan allen will not be drafted in the first 2 rounds. or at least not in the top 50 picks. how's that for bold!?

Manti Teo will not be in the Top 50. I actually have a case of beer riding on that one

Re: Bold Draft predictions

Barkley will be 1st QB taken, Teo is a top 20 pick, Geno Smith slides out of round 1, Fisher is taken before Joeckel, 49ers trade out of 1st round, stack picks between 34 - 100, and for 2014
I was MagicMike when Channing Tatum was a NOBODY!

Re: Bold Draft predictions

I'm not sure if this is bold or not, but I predict three quarterbacks will be selected in round one. Most people seem to think that zero or one quarterback is first-round caliber, so I'm going to say that it qualifies.

^ i could see that minstrel but that is somewhat a bold prediction based on what most 'experts' seem to be saying.

RE: Bold Draft predictions

The 9ers trade up to #20 to grab CB or DE and give back their #31 and #74 picks to the Bears.

Not sure if this counts as bold but I have a feeling that 9ers may possibly not address FS position til the later rds.of the draftnoidea

I think Baalke's comments about their drafting not being "need-driven" and that they don't see selecting a top safety prospect as a "necessity" hints that they might not pick a safety at the top of their draft. It's possible that they're not enamored of any of the major safety prospects.

Re: Bold Draft predictions

Either that or the other comment he made about still having interest in Woodson, then I am okay with the move especially if that means Phillip Thomascool

Re: Bold Draft predictions

Not really a bold prediction, but in the seventh round and with their final pick, the niners draft this guy: Brandon O'Brien.  Just because.

Re: Bold Draft predictions

That definitely sounds like he WILL pick a safety first.

Smoke screens are always possible, of course, but what he said sounded consistent both with smart team-building and with their own way of doing things. I'm sure in 2011, he might have said (if asked) that they don't necessarily feel they have to take a quarterback with their top-ten pick (which probably would have been interpreted as a smoke screen). I think that they truly do not feel that it's good draft practice to lock into positions at specific points in the draft.

That doesn't mean that they certainly won't take a safety at the top of the draft, but I certainly don't think it is inevitable that they will.

Re: Bold Draft predictions

That said, I like Eric Branch's prediction that, with all the talk of Reid, Vaccaro, Cyprien, and even Elam, that the 49ers will do what they have done the past couple years and take a surprise player at the position considered a big need.

In 2013, it’s clear the 49ers need a safety after two-time Pro Bowler Dashon Goldson signed with the Buccaneers last month

So will it be Cyprien? Elam? LSU’s Eric Reid?

Please. Have you not been paying attention?

The clear choice is South Carolina’s D.J. Swearinger, who didn’t earn all-SEC honors until his senior season, is not projected as a first-round pick and who, at 5-11, is a curious pairing with similarly height-challenged safety Donte Whitner.

In other words, I believe – with all my heart – that Swearinger will not be the 49ers’ first-round pick.

Which makes him the obvious choice.

Re: Bold Draft predictions

Yes, that aspect does make thinking about the 49ers' draft picks feel a little futile. "I'd love the 49ers to get this guy and the publicly-available evaluations seem to suggest he's a perfect fit...so, the 49ers probably have no interest." tongue

RE: Bold Draft predictions

i think that is a fairly bold statement, since i think it's quite likely we take a safety with 1 of our first 3 or 4 picks.

Re: Bold Draft predictions

As for my own bold prediction (not Eric Branch's), my gut says that there's a distinct possibility EJ Manuel may be picked a lot sooner than people think. While Geno Smith has tentatively held onto the #1 QB position through most of the draft process, he's been far from a consensus pick. Ryan Nassib has been rated higher on some boards, and Matt Barkley still has a few backers.

Manuel has some folks that love him and his upside, and others that don't like him so much because his film is inconsistent. But, as we all know, all it takes is just one team to fall in love.

To me, Manuel has the size, athleticism, and intelligence (he's an all-academic player who had a 3.8 GPA) and, at times, really pretty highlights that shows what he can do. Just as Kaepernick climbed up the boards after being considered a 3rd-4th round grade QB, I think Manuel could climb up the board.

I'm going to predict he's the 2nd QB taken and he'll go in the 1st round.

Re: Bold Draft predictions

Every year I always hope the Niners go defense in the 1st round!

Bold prediction for the Niners:
Like the 2010 draft, Niners go offense with their first 2 picks!  #31 RB Eddie Lacy & #34 DeAndre Hopkins.

Bold prediction for the 2013 draft:
Miami Dolphins make a bold move up to acquire EJ Manuel fanning away the smoke screen that they are head over heels for Ryan Tannehill!
No play is to big for Colin Kaepernick!!!
