I'm going to go against what everybody says and say got the playstation3, The online play on the XBOX is better i believe because it's been out longer and more people have them but i think eventually PS3 will close that gap.
Plus as said before the PS3 is a blu-ray player, if you've got a high def TV playstation is the way to go as Xbox i believ is only DVD format so it can only have an output of about a 520p resolution (i could be wrong but i think that's how it is). Ps3 games are mainly 720p but they will all eventually go to 1080p so the picture from the PS3 is going to be so much better..
As games get better and better they wont be able to fit on a single DVD but they will on a blu-ray. Also the Blu-Ray's are crystal clear when watching movies and it'll save you buying a blu-ray player. Also free online play, I don't know why you'd want to go with an Xbox because in my mind it is inferior.
You are correct Westsideconnection in that you are wrong. The 360 can display 720p or 1080i. It can’t do 1080p. The only real noticeable difference between 1080p and 1080i is how far you sit from your TV. The closer you sit to your tv the better a 1080p tv will look. There are other factors that come into play here but I don’t think I need to go that far yet. If the 360 could only display 520p which is not a display option the PS3 would already look better in most cases (which is not true).
As for games not fitting on one DVD that is correct but there really is no issue here because all they have to do is put it on more than one dvd. I can see for those lazy people that this may be an issue because they will have to get up and change discs. Also add the fact that Microsoft is going to make it possible for people to download their game on the HD. This will decrease load times and help out with the graphics.
The only advantage (right now) for the PS3 is that it can play Blu-ray movies.
Actually the 360 can do 1080p since all 360s now have HDMI. If your tv is set up for it, you can get 1080p through component cables. I have a launch 360 and it has component cables, but my Samsung accepts 1080p upscale via component so it is all good. Of course this is just for the games, not DVD movies. I believe you can download shows, movies, etc in HD over XBL and MS said at E3 this year that future movies, shows, etc will be in 1080p.
I plan on getting one of those newer 60GB 360s this Christmas just to upgrade. I'll put my old 360 in another room with the wireless adapter.
