I wouldn't be so cocky because these "little giants" have a way of raising their ugly "little heads."

Re: NINERS VS little giants

Those "Little Giants" are considered one of the most physical teams in the league this year, not smart to take them lightly and add to that we play the Seahawks also a very physical, punishing team the following Thursday this could be one of the toughest weeks we have facing us on our schedule. If we get dinged up to badly against the Giants (Not an unlikely scenerao) we could be in deep do-do the following Thursday against a division rival.

Re: NINERS VS little giants

I've watched 4 of the Giants 5 games.. I don't see them being physical at all, really.  I just don't think their defense is that good, their secondary is in shambles, and they aren't getting much pressure on the QB (no sacks against the Browns last week and only 2 against the eagles) and have a middle of the pack run defense.  Their offense is really explosive and one of the top 2 or 3 in the league, but I wouldn't call them a physical offense, in the same sense that I wouldn't call the Packers a physical offense.

I'm not taking them lightly, I just the characterization of them being physical is inaccurate.  I think with an offense like that they could beat anyone if everything's clicking.

Re: NINERS VS little giants

Long time and adament Giant fan here.  I agree I don't think we've been physically intimidating.   And the defense is , at least up to now, disappointing.   We also have a lot of injuries...Nicks on offense, Bennett hurt.   Canty and Bernard at defensive tackle,  Holsley, Rivers, Boley and the very excellent (and physical) starting strong safety.

But even so the defense hasn't stopped the run nor gotten to the passer.  Frankly guys like Tuck and Osi are playing like they're done.  Sometimes though ole pro's find a way to rachet it up in big games and this is a big one.

Eli always gives us a chance, but unless the Defense suddenly finds itself this could be a long day for us.

Looks like Coughlin is in agreement with all of you or at least he's dropping the "Oh, nobody respects us" card to motivate his players. eek1

The 49ers' pass rush hasn't been as fierce as last year either. Aldon Smith has been doing reasonably well on the season, but Justin Smith hasn't been his usual presence against the quarterback (he's still been a beast against the run). Brooks has been about on par, but he's not a top-caliber pass rusher, he's more of a "good all-around" outside linebacker. The 49ers really need Justin Smith to start blowing up pass plays again.

The Giants are finding a way to win, even from a deficit every week.  This won't be easy at all.

Now the Seahawks are wildly overrated.  Even with the short week, I'm confident that we will lay down the law in that game.

Kevin Gilbride is such a whiner!

Oh, if we don't win it's because Justin Smith is a cheater!

I have last years games on disc as well as the playoff with the saints and Justin is held and chopped may times without a single call.

Gilbride's a feline!

Whats interesting here is the 49ers pass defense has dramatically improved so far compared to last season.

2011: 227 yards a game, 15th in NFL, 20 TD's, 23 interceptions

2012: 181.2 yards a game, 2nd in NFL, 5 TD's, 4 interceptions

Through 5 games we have allowed 45.8 less yards a game and climbed from the middle of the pack all the way to #2. That's pretty impressive

Yeah, my own (non-professional tongue) observation is that they're playing a more cautious pass defense on the backend because they feel comfortable with as few as six in the box to stop the run. While the quarterback pressure seems to have gone down (though that's just how it feels...if someone has pressure stats to compare with last year, that would be great) the downfield coverages are more difficult for quarterbacks to throw against.

In any case, I'm really happy with how they've improved against the pass overall.

For myself, I thought there was a lack of a pass rush and relying on a 3 or 4 man rush playing a zone defense.  So far, the stats reveal an improvement.  Rodgers & Stafford did represent a 5000 yard passers.

Also, the offense is lending hand. They are sustaining more drives that results with a score. Except for the 13 point out put against the Vikings, the Niners offense have put up 27+ points per game.  I haven't paid close attention to the time of possession.

As far as the Giants go, I feel will be a battle!  Giants have started slow the last couple years but come on strong towards the second half of the season.  I hope the Niners smoke'm but I am preparing for a close game.

Of course I gotta pick the Niners!  Prediction:  Giants 13 Niners 16 and a hectic ending!!!
No play is too big for Colin Kaepernick!!!

Re: NINERS VS little giants

Well, since we beat them in the regular season last year, and they came back to beat us to get to the Super Bowl (and win it)....I wouldn't mind if we lost Sunday (and then went on to win it ALL!!!)
