well i'm happy because it means we won't lose a good secondary coach.

but it's an interesting block by our FO. typically teams don't block their assistants from interviewing for other jobs IF that other opening would be a promotion. i could see them blocking the interview if it was for the bucs secondary coach. but it's for the defensive coordinator position so i'm a bit surprised they blocked it.

wonder how donatell feels about it and how long he's going to be around after this.

It's because of the timing.  There are no other real coaches for them to pursue at this point.

I'm windering if denying permission happens regularly and we just don't hear about it often. I know that they cannot block for a HC interview but for the rest they can.

Its hard to find good coaches at this point, but this also could be the league paying back the Bucs for their past history in blocking their assistants from interviewing elsewhere. During the allen/gruden years they routinely denied other teams from interviewing their assistants. the Bucs have now been denied access by several teams.
