New Mock on NFL Draft Countdown

New Mock on NFL Draft Countdown

www.draftcountdown.com/sub/Mock-Draft-A.php

Man this would lead to lots of potential! Would like Eric Berry and than Black the OT from LSU, but if Berry goes that high and IF Locker was there when we might have a potential to grab another pick.

Also with the later pick, would someone sweeten the pot for McCoy?

I know it is the middle of the season, but I could talk draft everyday!

IMO, I would not take Mays with that first pick. Berry is a game changer. I just do not have that feeling about Mays and unfortuanetly I get stuck watching a lot of U$C games.

Re: New Mock on NFL Draft Countdown

I'm with you on Eric Berry! The man is all over the place like Patrick Willis. Taylor Mays, imo, can be a great 3-4 OLB in the style of J.P. Again, jmo!

I cringe when there is QB talk in the first round but can't argue. The QB is the cornerstone of a team. Well majority of the times!

The Niners are lacking starting quality guards, a tackle and depth on the OL as far as the articles go this week. A combo of FAs and picks should address this next offseason. I wouldn't mind seeing a 1st round OL player being drafted.

Jack

You are preaching to the choir about the OL.

We have depth, but lack higher end quality...

I am estactic how this year is going. We are winning and I see improvement. We have Carolina's #1, so we are going to add more good football players for next year + if we can sign one FA stud, then we have the depth and an excellent balance of youth and experience.

And while I am at it, I am excited about VD. He has manned up. Few were as critical about Vernon as I. I still think we aren't quite using him properly, think the 23 yard TD play last week.

And finally to our GM. One more solid draft, then with developing a QB were teams will need to fear a pass and we can be talking about a nice run at the top of the NFC West.

Brandon Spikes at 31!  I would just drool to have Spikes and Willis sitting there in the middle of the field.

Can't help it, it's been a bit brutal till this point. But in recent history, the OL starts the season off awful and the last 8 games, there is a resemblence of an OL. Till that time, I'll try to contain.

I can't agree with you more!!! Seeing the bigger picture coming together.

Re: New Mock on NFL Draft Countdown

I'd almost want to trade down with Cinci, let them get Locker and we take Mays and then the corner, and then pick up an OT in the second.  I know that is playing with fire, but if we got Mays, the Corner and then an OT with Cinci's second (I don't if that works), plus pick another OT/OG with our second, and kabaam!

I'm still thinking we'd get a first day pick from the Jets, too.  Least that is my hope.

Re: New Mock on NFL Draft Countdown

I hope the Niners don't pick Mays and I also don't think McC will. I just feel Mays has gotten by on athletic ability alone so far and he's had some injury problems. McC has stayed away from injury prone prospects unless they can be had at a big discount (MacDonald in the 3rd rd). If you're gonna grab a safety in the top half of the first round you'd better be sure he's gonna be awesome - like Berry!

Right now I'd like to see the higher pick used on a CB and the lower pick used on OL. Really though, this team has few enough holes that they can afford to just take the best player on the board. I do think, though, that one of the first round picks will be used on OL unless the team makes a big acquisition in free agency.

RE: New Mock on NFL Draft Countdown

I think CB is one of the least areas of concern right now. OL would be the top priority, second would be someone who can have an impact on our pass rush. Berry would be incredible but it seems like a pipe dream right now. Okung at this point seems like a great prospect I would like, seems realistic as well depending on how Carolina does. With our own 1st round pick we could just pick the BPA (not including QB,WR,OL), not sure who I would like further down the board.

Re: New Mock on NFL Draft Countdown

We're going to need a Right Tackle. However I am not, and I guarantee the Niner's are not going to spend Left Tackle money on a Right Tackle. It's just not realistic to take a RT in the top 10.

Now with the Mays vs Berry argument. How is their an argument. Each would play a different position on our team. Taylor Mays would play SS while Berry would most definitely play FS. In my opinion, we need to be addressing the 30+ year old Michael Lewis rather than sophomore Dashon Goldson. Goldson and Mays is just as appealing to me than any safety combination in the league. People cool on Mays because he is hyped but there was hype there for a reason. He would play an excellent SS for us.

I say take the best player on the board with the second pick. RT, QB, CB, DE/OLB, G, DT. All of those need either depth or a starter. BPA is the best strategy considering quality players of these positions can be found anywhere.

If I'm wrong about the Tackle thing than great. I would love to have Trent Williams or Okung or Black at RT for us.

Re: New Mock on NFL Draft Countdown

I've thought about the RT $$$. I think Staley's extension will still make him the highest paid OL player with the Niners should there be an OT taken in the top 6-10.

About safety, how's this one: Eric Berry FS and Goldson moved to SS. Supposedly in this defense, both are inter-changeable. Don't get me wrong, I could go with Taylor Mays at SS. I think he would be a super aggressive SS.

It's Eric Berry's ability to diagnose and play centerfield that intrigues me. Not to mention, he is a physical player.

On that note, Taylor Mays over aggressiveness is what intrigues me. Also his speed and attributes.

Re: New Mock on NFL Draft Countdown

I'd be pretty happy with Trent Williams and Patrick Robinson. Both would be exciting talents at important positions for the 49ers.

If Okung fell to the 49ers (or the Panthers lose their way UP to Okung), that would be really fantastic.

I like both Eric Berry and Taylor Mays and if either one was the BPA at a 49ers pick, they would make tremendous additions to the 49ers defense, even if safety is a bit lower leverage in terms of impact, as compared to offensive tackle or cornerback.

There are a lot of intriguing prospects...it's a wonderful draft to have multiple first-rounders. And if that Jets' tampering issue yields any picks, first- or second-round...well, look out!

Re: New Mock on NFL Draft Countdown

Has anyone heard anything about the tampering?

If this does yield a 1st, awesome! If the Niners were to also find a trade partner, 2nd & 4th for another 1st, possible 4 1st round picks!!! Okay, I am getting ridiculous. I am very happy with the 2 1st round picks!

Re: New Mock on NFL Draft Countdown

haven't heard crap about tampering charge.  i'd be mighty po'd if the Jets skate.  someone else posted we should get a first rounder--I tend to think that doesn't happen.  But I certainly don't see why they shouldn't lose a first round pick.

if we sign Crabtree, I think there will be less pressure.  Yeah, we lost time but we'd have him for six years and I just think people will view it as more harmless.  Crabtree did bring some of this on his own before the jets got involved, so I just think there will be a reason why the jets get a free pass.

lol- yes, fear not my friend! we already signed him.

can't imagine any mocks will have us even considering WR for the next couple of years.

now we can focus solely on OL and perhaps a QB to develop (although i love davis) as well as some help at DB and DL.

outside of that, we're stacked and just need to keep adding depth.

RE: New Mock on NFL Draft Countdown Post Rating (1 vote)

The Niners need to grab Berry/Mays with the Carolina pick and a LT with their own. If Berry & Mays are gone at the 1st pick, grab the LT there and go BPA the rest of the way.

We already have a Spikes at MLB...

I kid, I kid. I get what you meant. But it would make an awesome story, to have cousin Takeo teaching Brandon the ins and outs of the game.

Re: New Mock on NFL Draft Countdown

HAHAH Yeah I think Brandon Spikes is a superstar in the making and he can flat out play.  That being said, based on this Mock Draft, I would stick with the pick that they have for us around the 8 spot.  We really need a tackle, and I don't like any of the possibilities that are available later in the round.  That being said I would switch the last pick and skip the corner spot and take Brandon Spikes.  This kid is the real deal and holy cow would we have a hell of a middle combination at linebacker for years to come, making our entire defense very young and very good.  A 2nd round pick would be a corner.... ahhh hell now I am going to go make a mock based off this mock.....

I went to this one first and hadn't seen it.  So, yes I was following boards, but it was early (and hadn't had coffee).

We're actually stacked at most places, other than OL.  Even QB, as you note, we have Davis (and it remains to be seen whether Alex will have a moment of fame this year).  DL is definitely improving with the talent we have, and I love that Manny is playing well (along with the younger kids, like Brooks).  DB is more of an issue need to get depth now for when people start falling off.  As a 9er fan since the mid 70s, this is the first time IN A LONG TIME where we've had depth and can start planning for the future instead of looking back at no talent and gaping holes.  And what holes (on OL) we have get fixed next year even without the Jets.
