Yeah, Barrows confirms:

Matt Barrows ‏@mattbarrows

#49ers also announce that left tackle Joe Staley has signed a two-year extension through 2019.

Supposedly Staley wasn't thrilled with his below-market deal. I wonder if the 49ers working out a deal with him is meant as a shot across the bow to Vernon Davis and Alex Boone, showing they'll only work with players who aren't holding out.

Joe Staley is 49er football. Him and Patrick Willis. That is why those were the two player representatives at the ribbon cutting.

Re: Staley Given 2 year Extension Through 2019

Minstrel hit the nail on the head when he said the timing of the signing of Joe Staley was a not-so-subtle signal to Alex Boone that the way to get a new contract is to do it from the inside as a member of the squad.  At least that's what the 49er front office is trying to establish as the preferred method.  Boone is very good and deserves the raise and extension, but the agents he has chosen are known for the holdout method of contract negotiations.  He needs to be careful that he doesn't blow it.  There IS good depth on the OL.

VD is another story.  He can't seem to deal with the schizophrenia associated with being a tight end and an entrepreneur who is incorporated.  This man is confused.

Awesome news. Staley will hopefully be in a 49ers uniform for his whole career. Boone and Davis should really take notice that the 49ers reward their players. Davis already know this (3rd highest paid TE in the game), yet he still acts as if he has never been paid in his life.

That is technically true.  Actually, Colin Kaepernick invented all life in the universe, since he was responsible for the original big bang, and because Colin Kaepernick is smart, and doesn't care about logical paradoxes that mere mortals are not intelligent enough to solve, he made sure that, when he invented the universe, that someday, one of the things he invented would invent him as well.  But only when the universe had reached a certain level of sophistication, and when people were ready to embrace the awesomeness that Colin Kaepernick represented.  Its an open question whether we are currently worthy of such consideration, but Colin Kaepernick seems to believe we are.  This means that for all us doubters, the problem is on our end.
