Trade Deadline Discussion

Will this thread be used enough to justify its creation? That's a good question!

Anyway, I didn't see a particularly good thread in which to drop this, so I made one. We can put any trade rumors, ideas, what-have-you here.

So this is interesting from Ian Rapoport:

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet

Another player on the block, according to @NFL execs: #49ers RB Anthony Dixon. In a RB-needy league, he’s only making $630,000. We’ll see

Link

With James someone that both Baalke and Harbaugh have said they want to get more time and Lattimore on the horizon for next year, Dixon is probably somewhat expendable. Bruce Miller has gotten some short-yardage carries and could probably fill that role going forward.

Would be nice to add, say, another fourth- or fifth-rounder for him.

RE: Trade Deadline Discussion

hmmmm. Dixon is a player who is fan more talented than most realize but he just has such a limited role.

RE: Trade Deadline Discussion

did not realize Dixon is a FA after the season. makes him even less valuable in a trade. i'm thinking we would be lucky to get a future 7th rounder or maybe 6th. a 4th or 5th would be ridiculous and i'd do that in a heartbeat.

The only interesting trade rumor I've heard so far involves Adrian Peterson to Dallas.

Re: Trade Deadline Discussion

Floated by Dallas radio guys, from what I heard. IMO, Peterson to Dallas has about as much chance of happening, especially considering Dallas already being projected $30+ million over the cap for 2014, as Calvin Johnson to the 49ers. tongue

Haven't heard that one yet. A reverse Herschel Walker trade? Haha
I don't think it will be that big but if so that is interesting idea. If any team trades for AP it would be Cowboys IMO. Running backs aren't valued very high but if any are its AP. Wonder what that means for Murray?

RE: Trade Deadline Discussion

He is a key special teamer and a great team guy but the simple fact is that we need to open up 6 roster spots. Yes 6!! This would allow James to be suited up and hopefully replace Williams as a returner which would be a plus.

If we can get anything for Dixon it would be a bonus. Especially with Lattimore ready for next year.

As for the other 5 spots I would assume they would be Nnamdi, Dobbs, Moore, Patton to IR and maybe Kyle Williams who offers nothing at all and who is also a FA at the end of the season.

Re: Trade Deadline Discussion

Much more likely that they release McBLT than Williams, IMO. I don't see anyone likely to be a better fourth receiver, and that's only after Crabtree returns, which might not be til December (though it could be earlier). I agree Moore is a likely cut and Baldwin so far has shown nothing. Williams hasn't made any impact plays, but he has at least gotten open here and there and made some catches.

The 49ers don't need to carry a third quarterback, they don't even dress him for games. They can sign McBLT to the practice squad and call him up if Kaepernick or McCoy gets hurt. On the off-chance another team claims him, they can sign someone like Skelton (whom they've already shown interest in) again.

RE: Trade Deadline Discussion

Tell you what. It would be tempting to bring in another receiver at this time. 49ers are becoming more and more explosive where I think the effect would almost be exponential. We would literally be unstoppable with a guy like Gordon. If they take the Chiefs pick I would do it. Hell, I would even throw in a fifth rounder at this point. 49ers are easily one of the top 2 or 3 teams in the league as is. We need to win now. No guarantees of the future even with Baalke. Take the shot now.

RE: Trade Deadline Discussion

So what about Jared Allen? It is reported that Allen will garner a 3rd round comp pick, so Minnesota is looking for a pick better than that. Do you offer the worst of our 2nds or Tenn 3rd and a 5th?

Can't ever have enough pass rush. Thoughts?
