Randy Moss ' why is he so quiet?'

Posted: 01/24/2013 4:20 PM

Randy Moss ' why is he so quiet?'

It's like he isn't even really here... is it so he can tear it up at the Super Bowl?

Amazing the greatest WR ever to play has gone all season not mentioned ever. You don't even see him on t.v/radio/newspaper. Any pictures or videos.

Hopefully we can hear from him at media day

RE: Randy Moss ' why is he so quiet?'

moss stopped talking to the media years ago. unless it's necessary, he's not likely to talk much. and that's fine with me and fine with moss- he's here to play and he's played very well when called upon. he's also here to be a veteran leader and he's most DEFINITELY doing that even it's all behind the scenes.

Just wanted to point out a typo really quickly.  You left out the word "second" in the above sentence.

As to your question, agree with higherwarrior.  Moss has been pretty quiet with the media for a long time.

Yeah definitely forgot the word "second" before greatest, unless you are 10 or younger if so I wanna slap your parents...Jerry Rice is not only the far and away greatest wr ever he is the greatest player ever to lace up a pair of cleats...didn't have the speed Randy has, but no one ever caught him from behind
I was MagicMike when Channing Tatum was a NOBODY!

Check out 49ers.com and watch some of the mic'd up videos or game highlights.  He says some pretty great things.  I think it is more in the locker room/mentoring which is why we don't see it.  But it is there.

Why is Moss so quiet?  I thinking of all kinds of crazy answers!!!

Like Higher said, choice or something to that affect.  I remember earlier in the season that Moss, one of the greatest WRs after Jerry Rice, said that the media will twist his words and turn it against him.  Not exactly spoken like that but that is the gist of his point.
No play is to big for Colin Kaepernick!!!

Do you guys really feel he is still a weapon?  I thought he looked slow in that last playoff game.

RE: Randy Moss ' why is he so quiet?'

how did you arrive at that conclusion? he got open upfield several times. he's not the moss from 10 years ago but he's still one of the faster players in the league. he can still get deep and most definitely can get open upfield.

look at his stats- they're quite impressive for someone who has only averaged 27 snaps a game.

Moss still runs a 40 yard dash in the 4.39-4.44 range.

Moss dazzled in front of the Saints last Tuesday, running about 45 routes and looking “like the old Randy,” according to witnesses at the workout, FOX Sports reported.

The 35-year-old Moss also ran a 40-yard dash in around 4.39-4.44 seconds, exceeding expectations, sources told sportsNOLA.com.

Beyond the numbers, he's shown the ability to get open both deep and intermediate 2-3 times a game. He hasn't always gotten the ball, but he's a presence and has chipped in timely catches. No longer a focal point threat, by any means, but a pretty dangerous role-player.

I'll take your word for it.  But, when I watched the game last week, I thought he looked like he was running pretty slowly.  If he is so fast, why don't the 49ers have a great deep passing game and why doesn't he get more receptions/plays?

And Kaepernick led the league in average yards per attempt over the 9 weeks he's started and either led the league or was near the top in 20+ yard completions. So the 49ers' deep passing game is doing fine.

No one's claiming Moss is anywhere near the receiver he used to be. Even 4.39-4.4 is slower than his peak speed and speed isn't all that matters. As I said, he's a dangerous role-player, not an impact player.

I sure wish we still had Lardarius Webb.  He was our true shut-down corner.  But, our other guys have been playing great lately.  Should be a good challenge.

I agree. The Ravens have suffered some key injuries. I wish the 49ers had Mario Manningham, Kyle Williams and Kendall Hunter. None are as good as Webb, individually, but they were all important parts of the offense.

I think it should be a great game, both teams seem incredibly motivated and neither team is likely to be deterred by an early deficit.

RE: Randy Moss ' why is he so quiet?'

not only that but teams have been rolling a safety over the top to prevent us hitting him deep. that, in turn, opens up more stuff in the intermediate range which is evidenced by CK's stats.

nfl defenses still recognize his speed and cover him accordingly, so i think they would disagree with your position on the subject.

Not unreasonable that Moss would run a 4.39 to 4.44 at age 35.  We're talking about one of the fastest players to ever play.  I believe he ran a 4.25 at his draft combine, so a 4.4 is about where one would expect him to be after losing the proverbial step from age 22 to age 35.  While he might not be what he once was, "slow" is certainly not a word that I think should be used to describe him at this stage.

Totally believable, the fact that Darrell Green ran 4.45 at 45 and Deion ran 4.39 at 37...no doubt Moss still has the jets, hopefully he realizes this is his last chance and decides to be 1998 Randy

There have also been instances where the QBs just can't hit Moss deep.  There are replays showing Moss burning DBs in his limited amount of snaps.

During his days with the Patriots, he flat out quit numerous times when things got tough.  Once was when he was going up against the Ravens.  For just about the entire 4th quarter he jogged down the field on passing plays.  The next year he was out of N.E.

Maybe he changed his ways.
