RE: Crabtree being investigated
i read this at cnnsi
1- it's way too early to know if there is anything to this. anyone can make an accusation and the facts have yet to come out. if an assault did happen my thoughts are with the victim and then i hope justice serves its course to whoever is guilty.
2- this is the last thing we needed. completely false or not. what an awful distraction to a team that is beginning to look special, not to mention a WR who is starting to look like a top 10 WR in the nfl.
please let there be nothing to this. *SIGH*

RE: Crabtree being investigated
1) False Allegations like this happen all the time, especially toward professional atheltes
2) I stood behind Kobe Bryant until the bitter end, when he all but confessed after charges were dropped.
I'm so torn on this. I want to believe in innocent until proven guilty but I have seen it way too many time. I can't blindly cheer for him until I know more facts

Re: Crabtree being investigated
Hopefully, there's nothing to the accusation. While a false accusation would be bad, a sexual assault would be far worse, so I hope one didn't take place.
There really weren't any details to the SFPD press release, so I'm not going to comment on whether Crabtree did something silly or put himself in a bad situation (unless any socializing is off-limits right now).

Re: Crabtree being investigated
The situation is two adults were in a hotel room in San Francisco, beyond that its he said she said. The police have interviewed Crabtree but he has not been charged with anything. Only those two people actually know what happened. Crabtree is single, wealthy, young, and famous. That's a combination that can easily lead to trouble. I wish Crabtree would have gone home and started watching film on the Falcons, he can celebrate after the SB. Hopefully this is somebody looking for a payday and he can just focus on football. I'm not worried about this becoming a team distraction, there's too much at stake not stay 100% focused. That said, I am slightly worried about Crabtree's focus, with this hanging over him. eidt- I guess he wouldn't have started watching Falcons film since it was Saturday night.

RE: Crabtree being investigated
He's wealthy, and it sounds like she went into a hotel room with him. Unless he dragged her in there against her will, or unless there was a gathering of people and she was separated and raped, then you have to think BS. He's a target, and this is a huge distraction. I wasn't worried about the game before, but now I'm thinking falcons win.

Re: Crabtree being investigated
I doubt its veracity as well, sounds like the Tyson case to me, Iron Mike did not rape anyone either ...but if it turns into your version of Eugene Robinson, I wouldnt complain ....

Re: Crabtree being investigated
I'm with you on this one, I to wished he would have gone home and started film study. After the post game speech I would have said, enjoy the win be smart and remember all eyes will be on you guys so don't do anything STUPID. Not saying he did anything but don't put yourself in any awkward unnecessary situation. questfor6 wrote: The situation is two adults were in a hotel room in San Francisco, beyond that its he said she said. RE: Crabtree being investigated
ok without going too far with this one, a woman going to a hotel with a man late at night does not mean it has to be consentual. absolutely, it could be a setup and c-tree doesn't strike me as a guy who would do something awful like this. but i think some of the comments being made show a lack of understanding of what constitutes sexual assault.
either way, it appears c-tree has at the very least made a very poor decision and possibly put his team's SB chances in jeopardy. we don't need this sort of distraction!!!!

Re: Crabtree being investigated (1 vote)
Difficult to form an opinion at this point other than that this is a distraction that the team really didn't need right now. As to what happened, we may never really know. Right now, it's no more than an allegation. More often than not, these types of allegations do not lead to pressing charges. Pablo Sandoval went through the same thing a while back. So we'll see. Obviously, if a woman was sexually assaulted, I hope the crime is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Re: Crabtree being investigated (1 vote)
I don't mean to make light of what is a potentially horrible situation (if Crabtree is guilty, he deserves what's coming to him), but I find the timing of all this to be curious.....how this all came out right before the NFC championship game. We live in an age where somebody might be trying to get their 15 minutes of fame, and there's no better time to do it than right now when the sports world is ultra focused on the 49ers and the two games that will take place Sunday.

Why wait a couple days to file complaint? Seems slightly odd. Duke lacrosse anyone?

Re: Crabtree being investigated
Nothing good happens after midnight.... Got to be careful when you have money. My question is what was this women doing at the hotel with Mike in the first place? Was she going up to his room to play video games? Makes no sense. I call BS till I hear further details...

I call BS till I hear further details... That isn't a red flag by itself. She might willingly have gone to his hotel room with "romantic" intentions but not been willing to do certain things or changed her mind. Just because a woman agrees to go somewhere private with a guy doesn't mean anything that happens after that must have been consensual. Not that I'm necessarily saying Crabtree did anything wrong. There's no details and no way of knowing, for us. But I don't agree that a sexual assault allegation can't be true because she went to his room.

Re: Crabtree being investigated (1 vote)
What I've also seen way-too-many cases of are situations where a woman consents but feels bad and claims rape. And I believe in some states, a woman can rescind consent after the fact.
