some bigtime nfl prospects in this game though. but unfortunately it looks like the last significant NCAA game of the year will be a complete and boring blowout.

Eddie Lacy is awesome!  The Alabama defense as a whole is awesome!  Notre Dame QB can't outrun the Bama' defense.

I am rooting for Notre Dame, sentimental reasons.  That doesn't mean I didn't see this coming.

Saw one site with Lacy as third best back behind Stanford kid and UNC kid. Lacy looks like a bigger version of Richardson, descent hands. Lynch-like. Impressed with him. Niners will need to address the RB position sooner rather than later with Gore turning 30 soon.

35-7 late in the 3rd.

yeah i figured 'bama would win but was hoping it would be something like 27-14 or similar, just so it would be a somewhat competitive game. this is complete domination. ND had to get off to a hot start as they're not built to come back particularly against alabama!

I was thinking the same thing.  After tonight, he just might be the #1 RB!

and he's not even the best RB prospect on 'bama; that title would go to yeldon if you ask me. this kid is freakishly explosive and ferocious but also super quick too. he's not draft eligible for a while but he's a super stud in the making.

Wow!!!  The last few years they have been 3 deep with NFL talent RBs.

I thought Lacy was a north-south runner but he has some nimble feet!

Yeldon may be the better prospect, but tonight Lacy looks like the more impressive back. Great size, speed, balance. Like the jump cut and burst upfield. First contact rarely brings him down. Notre Dame belongs in the New Mexico Bowl and Musberger in the dirty old man's club.

Re: BCS National Championship Game

Well, I think the game went as scripted and it was hard for me to root against Notre Dame.

Alabama showed their dominance once again and should be the favorites again next season.  They are going to lose a lot of players but they always reload nicely and will have their starting QB back.

Eddie Lacy was the most impressive player for myself.  The defense was hard to pinpoint a singular great performance.  The ENTIRE DEFENSE was DOMINANT!!!

Manti Teo showed his instincts but not his tackling ability.  Notre Dames' safety, #17, showed some instincts as well but the tackling...eh.  I feel Notre Dame underestimated the Alabama offense.  Tackling was horrendous!

RE: BCS National Championship Game

like mcshay said though, i don't think ND had any idea of the speed they were facing in this game. that could be at least part of why they took so many bad angles on D.

i was happy to see a historic program back in the title game for sentimental reasons. but hopefully kelly's recruiting allows them to improve and be even more competitive in the future.

RE: BCS National Championship Game

Yeldon is the better prospect, IMO, and they're both future pros.

That said, a LOT of college backs would look very, very impressive running behind that line.  I'm not generally one to make hyperbolic statements about great college teams competing with terrible NFL teams (i.e., even the Chiefs would crush this Alabama team if they played).  But with regard to that particular unit--the Alabama OL--the five of them as a unit would rank among the top 25 NFL units right now.  All 5 of those guys will play in the NFL and 4 of them might be first round draft picks (3 this year and 1 next year).  That was a historically great college OL.

RE: BCS National Championship Game

Yeldon is a better prospect, but their best RB prospect could be the recruit they're bringing in next year. I wrote this in the Draft Forum, but Derrick Henry has an impressive resume coming into Alabama.

Henry just set the HS career rushing record with 12,212 (including 4,261 yds rushing and 55 TD this season alone eek ). He scored over 150 TD and averaged nearly 9 yards a carry for his career. Henry has reportedly been timed around 4.53 in the 40, which is just ridiculous for a guy his size. Out goes Lacy, or so we assume, and in comes another bruiser with speed.

Yeldon's size/speed combination, though, is pretty intriguing. He's pretty big, too (6'2, 215 or so), and has 40-times listed in the low 4.4s. With McCarron still around, Alabama could be going for four out of five next year. It's nuts.

I really hope, though, that some team knocks them off their perch. Not that I don't respect what Saban has managed to do, but I like to see other teams (and other conferences, for that matter) compete. The dominance of the SEC and Alabama sort of takes the fun out of the sport overall, imo.

Pudding,

I was at an event last night with some coaches from LSU and they were saying that the kid coming in would have been their starter last night if he was already on their roster.  eek

RE: BCS National Championship Game

Yeah. Those numbers he put up are just.. ridiculous. Seriously. 4,000 yards in one season? 9 yard per carry for his career (basically almost a 1st down every time he touches the ball). He's huge and has breakaway speed. The only concern I think with him is that he might be too big at such a young age. He might outgrow the RB position or other players might catch up and he might not look quite as dominating as the opposition's talent improves.

Looking at some of his highlights, he looks like a giant among midgets at times.

That breakaway speed is no joke!  He keeps increasing the distance between he and the defenders without breaking a sweat.  The clip looks like it was AP in the uniform.

Scary thing is he's bigger, right now, than AP!  As pudding pointed out the draft forum, he's about 6'3, 245!  He's like a faster, more athletic version of Brandon Jacobs...yikes eek

I think Yeldon is actually more like AP...same size, kinda of more of a lean angular body-type, but good combination of speed & power.  Its just nuts to have two guys like that on the same team; plus, getting Jalston Fowler back (who was the #2 RB before he got injured) who himself is 6'1 242lbs.

Pudding may be right about Henry growing out of the position, though.  He might have to move to TE or something, especially if he gets any taller, i'd say.
