Coaching carousel
topic to discuss all the hiring and firing of coaches. it appears andy reid has now officially been hired by the chiefs. good fit for both sides IMO. pioli is now out as GM which gives reid a lot more power. they actually have a lot of talent in KC so i'm curious to see what they do at QB there. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_...sas-city-chiefs

www.awfulannouncing.com/2013/j...ortscenter.htmlunnecessary and completely unexpected. thought werder was more professional than that.

Re: Coaching carousel
I'm kind of glad that none of the Niner's coaches have been contacted. Perhaps a sign of the off season. Hopefully the entire coaching staff goes unscathed.
I am intrigued with a possible reunion of Colin Kaepernick and Gene Ault. Not sure at what capacity Gene Ault would be?
No play is to big for Colin Kaepernick!!!

Maybe the Cards make a deal for Kolb. I don't think Vick was ever a Reid type of guy.

Not sure at what capacity Gene Ault would be? don't believe teams can talk to a coach whose team is still in the playoffs. i did think schurmer should have been extended more time. though the browns weren't winning they had improved in the draft and on the field the last two years.

bills reportedly set to hire syracuse head coach doug marone. he has some nfl experience and was highly thought of in nfl circles.

I hope Alex Smith ends up in KC with Reid to help move his career along. That would be a good fit since Reid likes the West Coast offense.

RE: Coaching carousel
agreed^
back to coaching news: ESPN is reporting that chip kelly is no longer under consideration for their head coaching job.
interesting. the way the report is worded makes me wonder if he wanted more money and/or power than they were willing to offer. either way, he's off the browns list. (unless this is a weird negotiating tactic!)
i still think philly would be the best fit for his offensive style.

it appears chip kelly may stay at oregon afterall. (i'm guessing with a big pay raise and extension)

glad this story is closing because the will he or won't he with kelly is starting to get old.

RE: Coaching carousel
well stepnez it took yet another turn.....and kelly is now the new eagles coach afterall!
i think he's a good fit for them and i'll be curious to see what they do at the QB position going forward. kelly was an admirer of foles in university so perhaps he might like to work with him. or will they find a way to go forward with vick?
also, marc trestman the former 49ers OC from years ago, is now the bears new head coach.

Re: Coaching carousel
I haven't been keeping up with the HC situations but the more vacancies that get filled, the chances of Greg Roman leaving gets smaller & smaller!
Each time the Niners win, the longer it delays teams from interviewing the Niner's coaches.
I heard the commentators mention that it is unlikely that Vic Fangio will want to be a HC. I thought I've heard that before as well! Perhaps I am putting thoughts in my head out of paranoia!
Chip Kelly to Philadelphia is interesting. I wouldn't be surprised he pulls a Nick Saban! Okay, perhaps I am being to negative. I think he will pull a "Jim Harbaugh" type of season in 2013.
I hope Chip Kelly has a strong QB coach. Masoli & Mariota were great college QBs, but do they look like NFL QBs? I know that is not a great way to measure a coaches worth but that is what I know of him.

Seattle D coordinator Gus Bradley is the new coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars which is good news for the niners. Roman, who had been rumored for that job, will apparently be staying as the OC and Seattle has lost it's D-coordinator, sounds like a win-win.

RE: Coaching carousel
blog.sfgate.com/49ers/2013/01/...-as-head-coach/yup! i'm guessing they put out feelers and found out roman wasn't particularly interested in the job. or perhaps not.... either way it's good for us that we (seemingly) will have our staff intact for next year AND seattle will have lost their bright young DC. the only current nfl job opening is in arizona and i'm not sure there's interest in roman there or if he'd go to a division rival. perhaps lovie smith has a landing spot there...?

I let out a little cheer when I heard about that!

RE: Coaching carousel
and the cards hired bruce arians the colts OC to be their head coach. looks like we're very likely to retain all our top coaches.
still possible something could open up, even at the collegiate level. but i personally don't see our top assistants moving for anything less than an nfl job. and i'm mostly referring to roman as i think i've heard it reported that fangio is more content staying a DC with us.
anyway we'll see but as of now, it looks like we'll have more of the same in 2013-14. and that's a great thing

Re: Coaching carousel
Regarding Greg Roman, not out of the clear yet. Should the Niners move to the Superbowl, I believe that would make Roman clear from the college teams.
Last year he did interview for the Penn St. job and I believe another college team.
