I wish they would of made this move weeks ago.... Now you have to gamble on another guy just before playoffs. LINK

Strange signing, IMO. Not only did Cundiff blow a very make-able field goal in last year's playoff, he was doing poorly this year before being cut (7/12 with the Redskins). But I guess they have the expert in Brad Seely.

Yeah, he was only hitting 58% before he got cut. I am a little worried that they are thinking about change this late.

What does this mean? Is he replacing Akers or was he just signed to put IMO unnecessary pressure on him?

I still have no idea how Akers turned into Mike Cofer.

RE: Harbaugh: Niners will bring in kickers- Niners Sign Billy Cu
yeah i'm not a huge fan of this move, but i'm not there to evaluate him right now. and even if i were, i'm clearly no expert. i would prefer to stick with akers over cundiff even though i have almost no confidence in the way akers is kicking right now. all i know is these 2 guys' past.....
the fact we signed him says something though. or maybe it shows more our lack of confidence in akers. i dunno. i guess we'll see who emerges now.
kickers are a strange breed. a guy can go from being awesome to being terribly inconsistent. and sometime it can go the other way too.
too bad kaeding got signed by the 'fins because he was the guy who IMO is the better choice over cundiff. this is a huge area of concern heading into the playoffs.

I hope the Niners stick with Akers. The bye week may just give Akers the time needed to get things right.
Akers will earn his redemption in the playoffs! (As I sweat bullets!!!)
No play is to big for Colin Kaepernick!!!

Re: Harbaugh: Niners will bring in kickers- Niners Sign Billy
Anyone have any insight into what goes on at practice during a kicker competition? Do they lineup special teams on both sides and kick from various areas of the field? No what matter competition they come up with, it cannot possibly replicate the pressure of playoff kicking.

No question at all that Akers is having a real lousy year.....but Cundif????? JMO but I can't see the real up-side to the trade off on this, unless the (FO) have knowledge into an Akers injury or whatever that we don't (Entirely probable) and feel he just has no more to give in the play-off run because of it.

Cundif missed a chip shot against the Pats in the AFC Championship game last year! If Greenbay wins like I think they will, at least both teams will have huge questions at the kicking position. Crosby has been just as bad Akers has been, and at least Akers made that long 64 yarder in the opener. Next weeks game if the Niners host GB could come down to the kicker who can actually make a kick. Who says kickers aren't real players!

I'm not terribly thrilled by the Cundiff signing, to be honest. He already lost a job this year after going 7-12 on FG to start the year. My guess is that Cundiff's signing carries the weight of a sibling seal of approval (i.e., John Harbaugh).

Out of the guys out there, I would have preferred Rackers. I wouldn't have any more confidence in Cundiff than I would in Akers right now. Hopefully this just lights the right fuse under Akers and he gets it together. I'm really worried that the kicking game could prove to be costly.

reading some reports today made me feel cundiff could beat out akers right now.
