OT: Norwegian Kicker Havard Rugland Post Rating (1 vote)

If this Norwegian guy is for real, I have to wonder if the 49ers have considered having him in for a look. He looks extremely talented. I know it's almost impossible to dump Akers for an unproven raw talent, but damn, I wish there was a way to sign him for a shot next year, if nothing else. I'm Akering for a new kicker!

According to NFL Practice Squad rules, "Teams are also allowed to have nine players (instead of eight) if the ninth player is considered by the NFL to be an "international player."

The NY Jets are rumored to be bringing him in for a tryout. Of course, at this point the Jets don't have much to lose.

Typically, I'd be skeptical, too, but the workout with the Jets was real, and, according to this article in the NY Times (usually hoaxes don't get reported by legitimate periodicals due to the fact that they actually exert some journalistic standards to their articles), the video was examined by at least one group of experts in Norway and deemed legitimate.

It's quite a fascinating watch, for sure. But trick kicking and kicking in games is entirely different. Even David Akers has been nailing 50-60 yarders in practice. It'll be interesting to see if this story plays out to where he does get a full training camp with a team, or if it proves to be another 'interesting' story that falls by the wayside.
