DL Tony Jerod-Eddie promoted from practice squad Post Rating (1 vote)

Defensive Lineman Tony Jerod-Eddie (Texas A&M) has been promoted from the 49ers practice squad to fill the roster spot vacated by Manningham following his season ending injury.

"The 49ers showed their concern about Justin Smith's absence by promoting rookie defensive lineman Tony Jerod-Eddie from the practice squad to the active roster Friday.

Jerod-Eddie takes the roster spot of wide receiver Mario Manningham (knee), who was placed on injured reserve.

Coach Jim Harbaugh expects Jerod-Eddie to be "involved" in Sunday's game against Arizona.

The 49ers signed Jerod-Eddie as an undrafted free agent in May; he has spent this season on the practice squad. He made 38 starts at Texas A&M and earned second-team all-Big 12 honors last season."

I can't wait to see how this guy works with Aldon Smith. Harbaugh indicated that Jerod-Eddie will see some action. With the 49ers having depth issues at both defensive line and receiver, with Manningham done for the season and Vernon Davis and Justin Smith both unlikely to play this week, a lot of thought must have gone into whether to add a D-Lineman versus a WR.

I think TJE will surprise a lot of people.  Being from Texas I was able to see him in action in High School as well at Texas A&M.  He's a big strong kid with long arms, blocked a few FG's also.  Funny how things work out sometimes, if it wasn't for J.S injury he may have sat on the PS until next year unproven.  Given the opportunity to show what he can contribute now will be a good test to see if he's ready to take over if Justin isn't able to rehab from his injury at full strength.

If nothing else the niners will lead the league in back-up D-lineman with 3 names.
