Brandon Jacobs
I'm sure all of you have heard about his constant complaining about not being used. While I sympathize with him being banished to the sidelines, shouldn't he keep that in the locker room? Acting like a 12-year-old over the whole thing can't be going over too well with his teammates.

Re: Brandon Jacobs
I read a few things that Brandon Jacobs was viewed as "dancing" too much against the Rams, rather than hitting holes with authority. It was media opinion, but it may well be also the opinion of the coaching staff which might be why he didn't get opportunities today. That said, I agree that overt complaint should probably be kept in-house. Somewhat moderate "I'm disappointed with my lack of opportunities" comments wouldn't be particularly untoward, IMO. That said, my impression is that Jacobs has never been known for moderation in what he says.

RE: Brandon Jacobs
yeah i was not pleased to see what he's been saying on twitter and other social media. he's on a winning team and while i appreciate he's a competitor and wants to play, he's going about it in the wrong way. fortunately it's not been a major distraction but it has/had the potential to be one. if this continues and james and dixon give us quality play, i can see him being cut soon.

Re: Brandon Jacobs
Harbaugh and Baalke had no compunction about cutting loose Braylon Edwards last year when they felt that he was no longer beneficial to the team, so I imagine there's a similar tipping point for Brandon Jacobs that he may be approaching.

Re: Brandon Jacobs
At this point, I'd say put him out of his misery and put LaMicheal James officially take his roster spot.

IMO that's what Jacobs wants. Perhaps. Not sure he'd be picked up by another team, especially at this point in the season, but it's possible.

Re: Brandon Jacobs (1 vote)
Releasing him would make him happy. Just make him inactive every game.

RE: Brandon Jacobs
I think we need to keep him. He's an idiot if he really expected a whole lot more when he signed. He was insurance, that's it. We've lost Hunter, and now I think he is somewhat of a necessity(though I did enjoy seeing Dixon score on the short yardage play). Unless we need his spot for someone else, I don't see the sense in releasing him. He can still prove useful down the road.

RE: Brandon Jacobs
Yeah.....not sure what he was expecting but it was my opinion that he was just picked up to be a 3rd and short option, sort of a wreaking ball to take it through a tough line situation. So, if he is unhappy......there's the door it's open anytime you want it.

Re: Brandon Jacobs
He has been misused period. Case and point was the Rams game when he was being used in sweep formations. He should only be used in short down situations/goalline situations.

Re: Brandon Jacobs
Unconfirmed but according to league source: Brandon Jacobs ' tenure with the San Francisco 49ers has come to an end, according to a league source....Coach Jim Harbaugh declined comment on Jacobs' status with the team Monday. When asked if Jacobs was on the team, Harbaugh replied: “I'll go with the Fifth Amendment. I have no comment about that.”Link

Re: Brandon Jacobs
The word is that he's still a 49er, but that he's been suspended for the final 3 games. This makes sense, since Jacobs salary, as a veteran, was guaranteed through the end of the year, so there was no cost savings. Also, by suspending him, they avoid having some team pick him up for a playoff push.

Re: Brandon Jacobs
I actually feel bad for the guy, really. Who knows exactly why he never got a shot with the team. Maybe it was the preseason injury, maybe looked bad in practice, but he was obviously brought here for a reason. I'm sure the team went through his planned role with him when they signed him and being inactive for most of the season probably wasn't what convinced him to sign.
The career of an RB in the NFL is pretty short and losing a year at this stage in his career is time he can't get back. Yes, he's getting paid and yes, he's on a winning team so he should be happy, but I can see how it's frustrating for him. To be honest, I think he's done a pretty good job keeping things quiet considering that this is just now overflowing in Week 14. I mean, he's probably been healthy since the early part of the season, but was kept inactive week after week. It's not like Anthony Dixon is killing the short yardage role either, but he has the added role on special teams, so that's why he's active over Jacobs.

Re: Brandon Jacobs
I don't know that he's 'lost' a year, though. RB's careers are short because of the wear and tear they endure on their bodies. A year 'off' while getting paid may not be the worst thing for Jacobs. He has a full year to really recuperate his body, and that could pay dividends for him next year, where he isn't trying to come back too soon from a year of being banged up.
I don't feel particularly sorry for Jacobs. I'd feel more that way if he had been an exemplary teammate and did everything asked of him. As it is, he's griped a lot and has done nothing to ingratiate himself to his teammates of the fans through some of his comments.
Had he had his season cut short due to injury after working hard and being a good teammate, I might feel bad. If Randy Moss went out next week with an injury that sidelined him for the rest of the year and playoffs.. then I'd feel bad.
Jacobs was given a shot to compete. I doubt the 49ers ever offered him anything more than that opportunity. I suppose they could have cut him much earlier in the year, but they gave him a chance to come back from his minor injury earlier in the year.
It's unfortunate for Jacobs that he hasn't gotten to play, but not to the point where I feel badly for him. He's still getting paid, and it's likely he'll get another shot with another team to get another payday next year.

Re: Brandon Jacobs
If one of our RB's get injured in the next 3 weeks, is it totally out of the question that Jacobs would be on the playoff roster?

RE: Brandon Jacobs
this could get interesting. jacobs is now filing a grievance against the 49ers.

Re: Brandon Jacobs
This has the smell of the Braylon Edwards release from last season. There is an article called Braylon Edwards 2.0.
I was rooting hard for Jacobs but somewhere, imo, he landed in the dog house even before he started his social media out bursts.
I still feel he could have a been a valuable contributor but it wasn't meant to be. From what I hear, LaMichael James had a great debut. I didn't see the game against the Dolphins.
Depth chart: Gore, LaMichael James. FB Bruce Miller, Dixon Next in line: Jewel Hampton? I believe he is on the 53 man roster.
No play is to big for Colin Kaepernick!!!
