Hey Schwartz: Know the Rules!

Hey Schwartz: Know the Rules!

You all remember Schwartz yelling at Harbaugh to "know the rules"? Well guess who just threw a challenge flag on a scoring playbiggrin Looks like he needs to take his own advice. His challenge led to a 81 yard Houston TD that would have came back because Forsett was clearly down after a short gain, but you can't benefit from throwing a challenge flag on a scoring play. If it was any other coach I wouldn't make a peep about it, but I enjoyed seeing it happen to him.tongue

This really is a stupid rule, it should just be a 15 yard penalty, they might change this rule in the offseason. Anyways thats what I was thinking to, know the rules, and he was wondering why Harbaugh wasn't so nice in a postgame handshake, he was yelling at Harbaugh from his sideline. biggrin

I can't support anyone who says they should change this rule.  Although it may be a dumb rule, he needs to learn it.  EVERY scoring play is reviewed.  If I know that, and know that he was going to get flagged and essentially give up a touchdown for throwing that flag when he clearly doesnt need to, he should be punished.  You should not reward stupidity.

I doubt they will. The point of the rule is to prevent coaches from essentially conceding the 15 yard penalty in order to delay the game, hoping for an official review. That's not what Schwartz was doing, but I'm fairly sure that's why the rule exists and it probably won't change.

RE: Hey Schwartz: Know the Rules!

actually the nfl said today they are looking at changing the rule. to me it's assinine to let a very obviously bad call stand simply because the letter of the law wasn't followed. yes, it was dumb of schwartz and he should know the rules.

if there should be a penalty, so be it. but scoring plays and turnovers are meant to be reviewed anyway, so this should've been corrected regardless of what he did. or, should i say- this rule should be changed because they simply did what they're meant to under the current system. this needs to be re-done.

looks like it's quite possible they could not only change it, but change it for this year. i think it's only sensible to still allow replays on plays that would've automatically been reviewed anyway. the change may not matter as i'm sure by now all coaches are painfully aware of this silly technicality. but still, it should and probably will be changed soon IMO.

I'd be in favor of a change of the rules to still allow the review. I think the main point should be to get the call right.

I agree!  Get the right call!!!

I would hate for something like this to happen against the Niners.  Harbaugh is an emotional guy and could have very well did the same thing.
No play is too big for Colin Kaepernick!!!

Also what is it with Harbaugh sometimes throwing the challenge flag so early?

At least take as much time as possible to evaluate the play. I mean he can wait until the other team has lined up or when we have the ball, until the 40 sec clock is low.

Agreed, but it is SO good that Schwartz did this!
