This could be our bottom out year

The combination of draft misses, players walking and premium picks simply not living up to their draft status might finally be reflected in our record.

We have a 36 year old about to start at DE.

We have literally no CB's.  Ike had what, 3 penalties last night?

1.17 is looking like a bust and Worlids is being paid 9.7M to do what exactly before he follows everyone else out the door.

We have no WR's other than AB.  Is Heyward Bey the second best WR???

Not impressed with Mitchell at all.

Since 2009 our 1-3 picks are:

2009 - 1,3,3,3 all gone

2010 - Pouncey is a stud, Worlids is about to walk, Sanders is gone

2011 - Heyward looks like a stud, Gilbert is the long term RT, Brown is gone

2012 - DD looks special, Adams is a bust, Spence hurt again.

2013 - JJ looks like a bust, Bell looks like a beast and Wheaton who knows.

Out of the last 5 drafts we have had 16 picks in the 1st three rounds and have very very little to show for it.

It's called reality.

I think you have reality confused with speculation.

He has been predicting a "bottom out year" since 2007.

Re: This could be our bottom out year

Mitchell absolutely has been disappointing and I loved the signing.

This team does not have a "talent' issue.

What you describe about the drafts the last half decade pretty much is what every team goes through with the draft.

This is the same team that went 6-2 to end last season and looked pretty solid last week.

There is enough "talent' to win games and certainly the "talent" is not relative to the performance of the first team last night.

Last night was a team wide focus/motor issue ...

I WANT to chalk it up to a road game and the Bell/Blount situation.

We will see.

Terrible pick in round three?

Well, it will be difficult to win in the NFL with no CB's, no WR's, no pass rush or the ability to stop the run.

We have a weak schedule - That could play in our favor. Or, given how this team has a propensity for playing down to its competition, it could indeed be a recipe for disaster.

Ben was among the worst players last night, my guess is that he'll be fine.  Some teams peak early and some teams peak late, I like peaking late.  If the Steelers start out with at least 4 wins in the first 8 they will be fine and the Defense will probably struggle early but should start rounding into shape as weather worsens.  The Offense needs to step up and get a sense of urgency to score early in games.

Matt your over reaction is typical of casual fans who really don't understand the game.

Either the talent or the coaching sucks.  Take your pick.

Add to that a complete void in the veteran leadership department, especially on D.

Pretty much. OL continues to look better and better. I think QB was due for this. Hope it doesn't linger

Re: This could be our bottom out year

I tend to agree with Jeff in that the ENTIRE team was completely flat last night which was the result of a mid-week road game combined with the Blount/Bell distraction.  If one half of the team looked bad while the other looked good, I would have a different opinion.  But outside of 1 or 2 guys the whole team looked dreadful, so it says to me that it was more of a mental thing that just not having the talent/coaching/etc.

I'm taking it as a good thing that they get a performance like this out of the way before the games actually count.

Re: This could be our bottom out year

I think that is an overreaction to a bad preseason loss.  I don't do sig bets, but I will wager some MBA/JD type cash on the Steelers exceeding their win total from last year.  PM me if interested.  I don't see this as a bottom out year at all.

As the season progresses I would say definitely what it is, but if your asking now I would say COACHING.

So now we have no WRs? AB is a stud, and I really feel that Wheaton will surprise. He's caught everything that has come his way, with the exception of one yesterday that the defender made a nice play on the ball to jar it loose. Lance Moore is a solid slot receiver too. To me the pass rush is the key, because generating any pressure on the QB automatically makes our CBs look better.

AB will be triple teamed this year.  We have him and a bunch of scrubs.

The psychology of the team seems to have changed over without Deebo and Hines as catalysts on both sides of the ball.

A whole bunch of milquetoast right now it seems.
