Lot of money for a guy who has never won a playoff game.

So after Ben's agent stops laughing, he texts Colbert and says "$125M over 5 years sounds about right!

It will be interesting to see how much is actually guaranteed. Can not see how the Bengal's would do that deal and not be able to get out of it in 2-3 years.

Terrible pick in round three?

I would call that beside the point; there are almost no deals in the NFL that can't be gotten out of in 2-3 years (other than Ray Rice's).

They've just locked up mediocrity for the next 6 years.  So there's that at least.

Some bengal fans try to use his stats as reasoning to this. All of us know hes a average QB. Look at stafford and how well his stats look with C Johnson. No one considers him anything special.

NFLN said Dalton is getting more guaranteed money that Kaepernick. One thing I didn't know is that he ranks 3rd all time in TDs and passing yards for a 3rd year QB only trailing Marino and Peyton. Maybe his agent used that as a negotiating tactic, lol.

Speaking of Petyon, he was also 0-3 in his first 3 playoff games. Payton finally won his first playoff game on his 4th try, so maybe the Bungles management expects the law of averages to catch up to Dalton this season. The only difference is that Dalton is far from elite. His QB rating in those 3 playoff losses were 51.4, 44.7, and 67.0 - ouch.

And speaking of QB ratings, all non Steelers fans point to Ben's 22.6 rating in SB XL and said the defense carried the team. There's no doubt he was awful that game, but the 3 games leading up to the SB (all on the road) he was 148.7, 95.3, and 124.9.

Steelers FO has to be laughing about the Bengals committing to Dalton like that, and cringing about what it means for Ben's contract demand.

IF Joe can get a SB, I don't see why Dalton couldn't.

Flacco has played better in big games than Dalton, but beyond that, I'm not sure I've ever seen Dalton play well in bad weather, and I think that's key in going deep in the playoffs.

I think there needs to be a little luck involved. Maybe a down year for Pitt/Balt . The stars need to align a bit, anything can happen.

I agree with that.  I just think of the most likely sites to have to go through for the SB.  Beyond Pittsburgh or Baltimore, you'd have to consider Denver and New England.  Flacco has played well on the road in some really poor conditions in both of those locations.  Those were conditions that I really think Dalton would not perform well in.  But certainly he could get a good path one year in some elements that are favorable to him.

Like last year? Pit/Balt both 8-8, they get a first round home game and sh!t the bed against the 9-7 Chargers. I agree that Dalton could probably win a SB if Joe could, but I would have a hell of a lot more confidence in Harbaugh than I do Marvin Lewis. Lewis should have been fired years ago.

Yes and no, there was no way Cincy was beating NE or DEN last season. It would've been embarrassing. I think they would have struggled with the Colts. I'm not crowning the guy or anything, just think with the right path he may prove worth the pay for a season.
