Detroit at Philly (merged threads)

Detroit at Philly (merged threads)

Our parade of unequal scheduling continues.   I am more confident going into this weekend than I was last - still worried though.

Home teams in the NFL win 53% of the time.   Teams coming off of a bye playing teams not coming off of a bye win 56% of the time.   You can see how screwed we were last weekend.   This weekend, being at home mitigates half of the bye week disadvantage.

this might be more heart than head...

Eagles 28   Lions 14.

They better do a better job (ack I can't believe I just typed "do a better job") of covering Megatron than they did Fitzgerald.

DRC has played very well this year. A couple missed assignments, but every CB has those every now and then. Keep him on Johnson. Aso draws too many penalties... at least so far this year.

Detroit has no running game. Stafford has been erratic. Our DL MUST get pressure.

RE: Detroit at Philly

I cannot believe Andy Reid has called 3 consecutive passing plays in overtime and didn't even think about running the ball. Seriously, Vick getting sacked on back-to-back plays? Really?

In all fairness, that PI call on Brent Celek when his touchdown got taken away was flat out BS!!!

I dont fault the play calling.   Then is not the time to be conservative.   You want to go out and win the game.

The NFL is just laughable when it comes to handing out competitive advantages.

Original,

Was today one of those "easy games" you told me about last week?

There's enough blame to go around on all sides of the ball. Pathetic to lose after getting up 10 with lil over 5 mins left.

I  turned off your game ...thought it was over after late TD.  Detroit just looked dead.

So Dallas and Philly lose.   And we're positioned pretty well.

The Giants looked like the class of the NFC East yesterday hands down. It pains me to say that, but it is true. They put it on the 49ers.

I have to believe that AR will turn this thing around. His November and December records over his career are phenomenal.

Pigeons vs Eagles

This game was won by the Eagles, and the Lions had no running, and their main WR was no factor in the game. Everything was going the EAGLES way, and they had the game secured. But, for whatever reason, this Lions team never gave up, and brought the game into OT. And then the self-distruction enters the game and the Eagles fail to win the game. Did you hear the commentary on tv about those pigeons on the field, and how they  were not "scared" of the players around them?
Those Phila pigeons did better on the field than the football team.

Re: Detroit at Philly

I don't think you can blame Detroit having the bye week advantage for this loss.  Absolutely no excuse for blowing a 10 point lead with a little over 5 minutes left.  Terrible playcalling on both sides of the ball in those last five minutes just epitomizes this team the last few years.

Re: Pigeons vs Eagles

You think that was a game rewind, you should check out Andy Reid's 12:00 press confrence today, i can predict what he will say at least 5 -7 times. He is going to tell you that he has to do a better job, the entire team has to do a better job, players, coaches. And that it starts with him.

Pentalties, and lack luster plays, do win games

The Lions came to phila with not much of a chance to win this game. And for 3 quarters, the Eagles had them by the throats. The Lions had 16 pentalties, and was doing just horrible. But as the game was winding down in the 4th qtr, things began to swing in the Lions favor. And then the game heads into OT. The Lions woke up and put pressure and the Eagles failed to hold on to the game, and lost.
So it looks like that a team that had multiple pentalties and poor playing against them can win games in the end.

Who to blame - Players or Coaches ??

I'am not a Eagles fan, but i do live here in Phila. So i see and hear everything that is going on with the team. Many fans are just frustrated to the limit of wanting Andy Reid fired, and get someone in here who can do a 'better job". Well that's not going to happen, at least not during the season. Many fans are blaming the coaching, and the players. I look at it like this, the coach'es plan out a play scheme and each play is executed at a specific location of the field. Now, when things seem to not work no matter what you try, it's all on the players to make the team move the ball and score. That's on offense, on defense your main job is to "cover" each man, and not allow them to gain yardage, and eventually score.
To me, i blame the players for both not containing the ball, and also allowing the other team to score.

Re: Who to blame - Players or Coaches ??

A little bit of both.

1. Vick is turning the ball over way too many times. Whether it's Int's or fumbles, it doesn't matter. You take his 13 turnovers and  make them all FG's and that is at least 39 more points scored. And two more wins.

2. Vick is holding on to the ball way too long causing him to panic in the pocket and either get sacked or make a bad throw. That results in lost yards on a sack or a possible Int. Either way we lose.

3. We have one of the top 3 RB's in the league, and three others on the roster. Yet we rarely use them. They claim it's a 60-40 pass run ratio, but doesn't look that way. Yes the Lions did a good job yesterday on Shady. But you have to keep feeding the ball to him. He will break one, like all great backs do.

4. D just broke down yesterday late in the game. They should have been well rested since the offense controlled the clock. But these things happen. As well as they have played all season, I can let one game slide.

5. Reid/Marty will never really run West Coast Offense. No matter what they say...

*** are you talking about?   Playing a team coming off of a bye is never easy.  our easy part of the schedule starts after Atlanta - I think I was pretty clear on that.
