Early Offseason Needs

Early Offseason Needs

OK... I guess we can all admit our season is over. 3-7 right now. Not a chance in ..... to roll off a couple wins like last season. So what are the needs for next year?

OL - as someone else mentioned, a healthy Peters, Kelce and Herremans will go a long way to fixing the OL next year. Adding QUALITY depth will help also.

DL - the wide-9 is not working!!!! Too small in the middle. Babin and Cole are not getting pressure. I can see one of them being gone next season (Babin... and I just bought his jersey!!!) The DT's aren't clogging the middle. Go to a base 4-3 and things could be different.

Secondary - Keep DRC and Boykin. He has played well in the nickel. Add a SS in the draft. Coleman blows.... Still love Allen.

Coaching - Andy, Marty and Mudd..... gone.... Bring in a coach that will utilize our weapons (McCoy) more. Mixed on DL coach. ... get rid of wide-9 and he can stay....

Re: Early Offseason Needs

2013 Capspace - rough estimate given we dont even really know the cap number for 2013.

Currently 17M over an estimated 121M 2013 cap number.
Roll forward forward, 22M
Potential Cuts

Vick   10.2
Bell   9.6
Babin 3.8
Jenkins 5.5
Nnamdi  11.3

make those cuts and the new regime would have about 45M in cap space to reshape the roster...

I'd really hate to cut Babin. Love the guy. But B.G looks good this year now that he is healthy.

$45 in possible cap space..... If only they would use it wisely.....

Re: Early Offseason Needs

Wish I could gloat, but for the first time in about six years I'm just as pessimistic.

I think we need a rebuild.  Tuck, Osi, Canty ....The front four that I thought would dominate is ...well , ordinary and maybe just a tad more. No right tackle on O, Snee getting on,  John Pierre double teamed and held all night long, running backs are old and inefficient...Nicks looks like he's always gonna be hurt and Eli - when it's not under two minutes - is good but not elite.

The hated Cowboys (I never hated the organization, just the fans) are likely the best team in the division.   And everyone mocks JJ but his last drafts have been brilliant.  And he did it by drafting for need...and some unhearlded FA signing like the Fullback.

And we talked here about how great our division is and when I look at it now, it's the weakest in the NFC.  And should the Giants win it it's as likely by default as anything else and because the talented Cowboys are still soft.

We have been trying to tell you that Grizz.... lol

Giants DL is as talented as ours is. But both have played poorly. Not sure what the problem is with either one.

LOL, yea arguing with Giants fans about Eli's elitness is an exercise in futility.

If the Cowboys are the best team in this division, the division is the worst in the NFL.

I think that the Skins may be the best team in the East some year very soon...

They might be the best team in the east right now.

RGIII is the real deal.... maybe. Thought Newton was awesome last year for the Panthers. But this season he is in a slump. IF RGIII falls into the same slump next season, Skins may be in trouble....

Re: Early Offseason Needs

Offense:  As I said in another thread, I think healthy Peters, Herremans, and Kelce almost fixes the offense...that and an OC that isn't so predictable and call 50 pass plays with a rookie QB and terrible OL.

OL:  Move Herremans to RG and sign or draft a legit RT and I think the offense will be good, although I'm not convinced Kelce is big enough to play in a more conventional blocking scheme.  I'll assume for now he is just because that's one less hole to fill.

QB:  I think unless Foles is absolutely terrible, since there is no consensus can't miss QB in the draft, you give him the rest of this year and next year to prove he can't play.  There's really no reason for Mike Vick to take another snap this season unless Foles is hurt.

RBs/WRs/TEs:  They really should find either a big or more dynamic WR to replace Avant as the 3rd WR.  I wouldn't mind an upgrade for #2 TE either, but with all their other needs, that's a low priority.  RBs are fine.

Defense:  This is a train wreck.  They are too small and too soft at pretty much every position.  16 sacks and 10 TOs forced and absolutely no one that scares any OCs.  Someone said they like Graham and Allen...I'm sorry, but what?!?  Graham has 14 tackles and 1.5 sacks, and Allen and can't tackle and is supposed to be a cover safety but has 0 INTs.

DL - Fletcher Cox looks like the real deal.  Let's hope Cole bounces back under a real DC because they can't cut him because of the cap hit.  Let's hope Curry can play because Babin will be going where Washburn ends up if he's lucky.  The rest of the DL is meh.

LB - The next play Akeem Jordan makes will be the first.  Ryans and Kendricks have been OK but nothing special.  At the very least we need some depth here so special teams don't suck so bad.

Secondary - OMFG this may be the worst secondary ever assembled.  Nnamdi has been a colossal bust.  DRC has been better but is afraid to tackle (basically Asante minus the picks), and BTW is a FA after the season. Coleman gives you effort, but isn't a NFL starting safety.  Boykin has potential, but will never be anything other than a slot corner.  No one in this secondary can hit, much less tackle.  I wouldn't complain if they spent the entire top of the draft on secondary.  Of course, unless someone with a clue is making the picks, none of this matters, which brings us to...

FO:  #1 priority IMO is to get a GM with a effin clue when it comes to evaluating talent and has NFL creds to be a GM.  There are guys in NFL offices that have spent more time in the can than Howie has been involved in the personnel side of football.  I can't see any hot property HC calling 37 year old whizz kid Howie their boss.

Re: Early Offseason Needs

There are few certainties in the NFL and truisms change  more rapidly than the tides.

PRE season you guys looked set.   Now you look like a major long time rebuild and a year or two at last place in the division is your lot.  I can't see you being competitive for awhile and the Vick experiment looks like a disaster.  I don't think anyone can win with that guy over a 16 week schedule.   He's like a cheerleader I dated in High school, great chest, looks but didn't put out long term.

And - and not to be snotty - but maybe our rebuild happen over the two week break.  GB didn't have Woodson or the fine linebacker...........but that was a beating we administered and, objectively (as if anyone's objective here) we're back in the hunt.  And perhaps Sandy affected both teams.

Re: Early Offseason Needs

Do we define this thread as fickle or realistic? Even the Giants fan appears lost.

Both rosters are loaded. The Eagles have a QB problem and team dynamics have derailed a very talented roster. In NY, the team has gone approx 6-2 every year and always has that slump including this seasons which included no electricity, no gasoline, missed practices etc around the Pitt game. They annihilated both San Fran and GB with JPP and Kiwi unblockable.

A new voice, some stability at QB and a few bodies on the LOS is all Philly needs. That, and fewer untimely turnovers and penalties (discipline). The Giants appear to only need the motivation of being disrespected to get their heads out of their (blank

Happy Holidays - so long as Jerry and Danny boy are in the division it will always be Giants/Eagles. Just wait when RG III's wheels get damaged like every scrambling QB.

Re: Early Offseason Needs

good post NY.

Wide-9 is gone.

Babin is already gone.

DRC seems to have lost his confidence.

I also like Allen - Coleman would be a very good 4th safety.

Our OL should largely fix itself - as we've seen though, we have no depth.   I would love to see the team add a stud OT in the draft and move Herremans back to G.   Dont know what to make of Watkins.

I actually like our front 7 very much - we need a real NFL defensive scheme/coaches.

If Foles developed between now and next fall, or, we somehow get a huge QB upgrade, then the rest of this team is not very far away from being very good.

having about 50M to spend this offseason should help a bit as well...lets hope it is spent wisely.   Please no guys over or on the cusp of 30.

Re: Early Offseason Needs

Any new thoughts on what the future coach might look like?   You've had about 20 seasons of west coast offense.......which was preceded by Kotite and the Buddy Ryan juggernaut throw sh!t against the wall O.

Honestly.......seems like there are plenty of operational parts......seems like the Coaching Staff is just no longer being paid attention to.   Some new coaching blood could turn the ship right around.

Although the Redskins are now a problem all of the NFC East teams will have to meddle with into the future.

RE: Early Offseason Needs

As far as the draft goes, there's not a single position except for RB and of cousre, kicker that I would shy away from if that's what the best player on the board is. Having said that, I'd like to see multiple picks for the secondary, which is just a wreck (assuming DRC isn't coming back, and Nnamdi being asked to a pay cut or take a hike), and the OL. If Peters, Kelce, and Herremans return ok, it could be pretty good in 2013, but longer term, the only younger player there you feel good about is Kelce, who's coming off an injury. They need an infusion of young talent there.

For free agency/trades, I further address the secondary, maybe add another DT (CJ looks like a cap casualty), and perhaps a fringe starter/strong backup QB to hedge your bets with Nick Foles a bit (hoping he's not Bobby Hoying 2.0).

Eagles/Indiana/Mets/Villanova: it's a long story

RE: Early Offseason Needs

Trent Edwards surprised us by making the team as the 3rd QB. He would be OK IMO to bring back to be Foles is the answer.

T'eo would be my choice for our pick. Along with Kendricks and Ryans, it would be a pretty good LB corp...

RE: Early Offseason Needs

Right now I would go with DT Star Lotulelei to pair with Fletcher Cox for the next 6 - 10 years, else I think DB and OL is the most important positions.

Go Eagles
