This "less than inspiring" loss to the Vikings isn't as bad as a lot of you are making it out to be.

Defensively, we showed nothing but base defenses. I went back and didn't see a single blitz package from our first unit. We had a couple of Dline stunts and put a little pressure on Cassell and Bridgewater, but i'm not concerned as we barley opened up the playbook. Also, as we get closer to the first game of the season against the Jets, you're going to see a lot of defensive penalties called. Defensive holding and Illegal contact are going to get called more than they ever will during the regular season in-turn making it a little more difficult to get off the field on third down. I was impressed with some of our second unit guys. Shelby Harris looked solid. Carrie and Checkwa really impressed me. I was hoping to see more from Jonathan Dowling. Physically he is a stud. I'm hoping the game slows down for him with some experience.

Offensively we had a couple of penalties and drops that made things difficult for the first unit to get moving. Schaubby however looked pretty comfortable. He showed accuracy and made good decisions. We will get a better idea of where he is at next week when he gets the first half to preform. I thought MJD looked good. Caught the ball well, moved around like the MJD of old. If your expected him to look crazy explosive, you're not going to see that. Go back in look at the tape. He isn't going to look like Darren McFadden. Speaking of McFadden, his only run looked outstanding. The offensive line, other than the first play from scrimmage, looked great. I was happy with how Donald Penn looked. He looks like he is in great shape and I think our line is going to be a strong point for us this season.

One thing that was painfully obvious to me is that Derek Carr isn't ready to take over. He was inaccurate and made some questionable decisions on where to go with the ball. One particular third down stood out to me (I think it was his last drive) 3rd and 4 and Carr throws it to the first read out of a bunch set to the flats that was stopped for a no gain. Had he come off his first read in the flats, Denarius Moore hooked up wide open and could have been a very easy first down. Didn't show enough patience there. Carr threw a couple behind DMo in his second series. The interception wasn't on him. Jamize Olawale couldn't have made it any easier for the linebacker to come down with it. He was ok, but has work to do.

Raider Nation, Breathe. We're going to be ok.

I agree with much of your observations. To some up what I saw, there were a bunch of throws that hit receivers in the hands (including Carr's int) that I wold blame the receiver for the drop.

Those things made our QBs look bad in the stats.

I feel good about our QB situation, i think Schaub will be just fine.

I (right now) would pit McGloin at #2.

Carr has plenty to learn before taking the helm.

Our RBs .... Look like it could be an exciting year.

Wish I had a better look at the OL & DL, watching on my antiquated laptop off a pirate sports broadcast with the links intermittently freezing up or dropping out was not conducive to full on position by position analysis

My biggest areas of concern: WR & DB.

The bright spot that I saw was, unfortunately, the punter. I am holding out hope that with time the team gels a little more, and things slow down for the younger guys. I saw a lot of drops just as everyone else has stated. The run game shows promise but it usually does early for us every year. DB play is suspect, and receivers have a case of the droppsies. If we can put our talent together, all at the same time I think we have a vast amount of potential.

I would hope that NOBODY is thinking he is ready to take over anytime soon.

Chekwa and Carrie were our brightest on D.

DMC and his 1 carry was the lone bright spot on O. (And McGloin I guess)

The rest left a lot to be desired!

You can't really get much from Carr since he was throwing the ball 4 yards each time.
