Information\Gotcha's for new site

Information\Gotcha's for new site

All,

I thought I'd start a thread containing any info or any gotcha's for this new location. I'll start with a heads up I just found...

If you're going to make changes to your profile (such as removing the approval for the site to send you email or updates on your hotlist, blank out the password field in the middle of the page. It's automatically filled in for you and if you don't, it'll keep bouncing back and not save your changes because the confirmation field is blank. Just enter your password in the field about the update button and you'll be fine.

I got my lay out looking like the old site defaults by setting my viewing preferences to

TOPIC VIEW: List
TOPIC SORT ORDER: Last Post Date
POST SORT ORDER (WITHIN TOPIC): Oldest to Newest

The other two I left at the defaults.

Re: Information\Gotcha's for new site

It doesn't accept my avatar. Initially the message was it's too big, but I fixed that. It says it accepted it, but when I close the box, the file name doesn't show. This has been going on since yesterday.

"Member Information", "About Me", and "Signature" all go to the same page.noidea

 Ken

edit: And in hindsight, I have to ask-has ANYBODY been able to upload an avatar?

I've seen a couple of people that have. BK comes to mind. I haven't seen anyone that DOESN'T have the IN/Subscriber underneath their Username with a working avatar but I HAVE seen someone with the IN/Subscriber tag with their avatar reading "Avatar" just like ours. Because of that, I can't say that being a Subscriber is what's needed for a working AV but it kind of looks like it. Still trying to figure it out. If I do, I'll definitely post it up...

On the post sort order (within topic) I prefer newest to Oldest.

One thing I find interesting is that your login switches from email address to user name depending on the page.

Even when I joined RF.net back in 2005 the forums were not this antiquated.

Thank you for the 411. Much appreciated!

Now it's starting to look like the old place.

Re: Information\Gotcha's for new site

The ability to use avatars is a permission that can be granted to both premium subscribers and regular subscribers. The site admin would have to confirm that setting.

Some other things to keep in mind:

-Scout has a maximum login setting, so if you're one to log in with more than 3 devices in a short period of time (like 24 hours) you may be asked to log in again when you go back to the first device you used that day.

-Safari users on mobile devices, make sure your cookies are enabled.

-This site is not a mobile friendly forum, but Scout is working on a mobile view which some smaller (non-sports) sites already have.

-If you paste links in reply mode in Firefox or Chrome, you have to manually make them links with the chain link icon. In Quick Reply mode, it'll convert the links on those browsers.

-Suggestion: the thread icon used here is way too big.

rimshot.gif I'm here.

Just like everyone else I can't figure out how to have an avatar.

I like the other site better.

No "likes"?

No "reps"?

Pffft.

Reggie: This is Year 1 of the rebuild. The talent on the entire roster is below average... Don't compare last year with this year, it's a different roster. These guys didn't win 4 games last year.

There is the ability to have poster/post ratings, but the site admin has to enable it.

Re: Information\Gotcha's for new site

Never mind I found it. Go to the top of this post on the right hand side select My Menu -> My Profile -> Member Information ->Edit Your Profile Now

What makes it tough, is you can't tell that the Edit Your Profile Now is a hyperlink.
