Re: Tea Party bites dust!

I think that you are likely premature in declaring the Tea party dead, at least here in NC they seem robust.

The feckless "Occupy gang", on the other hand.... rolleyes

Occupy is not a party!

You didn't pick up on their disgust of the democratic party as well. The "99%ers" have been identified and is part of the conversation. 47% is another one that's been bandied about. The number should be 500k or 1 mil. That is the 1%ers. The yuppies with their yachts while the homeless aimlessly are happy to not have all them bills to pay. I understand that very well in that I have more than enough toys to keep me busy for a long while. All paid for. That's my goal. No bills. Pitch a tent when I get my chance and other people will be paying for it. I hope more people can achieve that dream. So, i moved over. Retired, with all the aches and pains to prove it. Good run. I wish the same on all of you. Happiness is remembering Yosemite as if it was yesterday. Not everybody has hiked the Grand Canyon of the Tuolomne from the meadows to the valley. Never forget John Muir. Edmund Hillary. Baden Powell.

You are enjoying your retirement. And that is cool.

I dont think I will ever retire, dont really want to.   I am doing my bit for the economy with a couple of hundred employees, and I enjoy the game.

My accountant is currently trying to plan for how we survive and prosper in the new environment created by Obamacare, and it appears  that he easiest answer for most businesses like ours is to eliminate full time positions completely.

Not something that I want to do, so we are looking at alternatives, but it's still possible that we will end up with 40 salaried employees with full benefits and 300 or so part timers.

If that's the way you are going to handle it....

...don't expect me to be one of your customers!eek Spite and coke don't mix! Sorry, maybe it isn't your fault but to take it out on your employees is criminal....just like they were trying to do to sway the election. Hey, it's your business. Go ahead and kill the purchasing power of your employees. i hope they find better work somewhere else. You won't get too many partime employees that are goingto be as loyal as the ones you have now. Then, when the word gets out, it always affects the bottom line. You will be just fine. Your effect on America really sucks. Blame it on Obama. Don't bother with the people that voted for him. We expected spite from anybody that would spin it that way. Callous is a wurd that comes to mind also. You are one of those that would tamk the economy to get Obama out, so, that Romney can give you big vacation subsidies!!!

In other wurds, you are going to do a 4thring! Partime, no insurance! As long as you get your money, it doesn't matter, right? You are claiming sole proprietor. I see where this is going. In order to pay for that tax increase. Hey, you gots to do what you gots to do. You are just following what they are pushing at FOX.

Maybe that's where you got this idea?!? The Papa Johns pizza lady who is saying that she can't make it with any kind of increase in insurance at all. The premiums would have went up with or without Obamacare. Not everybody eats pizza. And it's $10 for pizza. Like she said, people will be eating at home. What a concept. I'm a good chef. Always have been and is part of my dna.

Spending on American stuff is big with me. Not everyone can afford that but I am one of the ones that is floating this boat. You are out to sink a few in order to float as high as possible. I see where your defense of greed fits right in. Greed is good, you wrote. Without it, we would have "no incentive" to strive to make a million in the USA. I'm still doing partime work. I have insurance already, so, it doesn't matter there anymore.

That lady also mentioned that the insurance she carried would have to cover those employees. Does she have more than 50 employees? She never said. That would have to be more than one franchise. She said that those workers were young, and didn't need insurance. Did you get that last part? Didn't need it. The young invincibles that never get sick shouldn't have to pay anything. The company pays for that. I have a problem with that when people drive around without insurance!eek

So, I found your sources! Your accountant has been getting their e-mails from the phucker in charge. Now, the business community is going to phuck every worker in the USA because of health care? Yeah, I've been doing the homewortk and following your GOP mandate to phuck health care with all your might! Go for it and see where that takes the 2014 elections. You guys don't know when to stop. Your employees will leave you as fast as they can. As long as you get yours....makes me wonder....

GOP spite is a nasty thing. This will be brought up when it gets to the next election cycle. There will be repercussions as I will make sure I don't patronize these businesses. There's a whole list there of businesses that are threatening to close as well. Take your spite and your dollars and get the phuck out of this country already! We only have a bigger hole to dig out of. You guys close your businesses, you won't have the power of the vote over them!

If you burn your employees and there are any smart ones that know what they are doing, they can burn you back and you might want to expect that. Co-ordinated revenge can be a nasty thing too. I know if you cut my hours and my benefits, you won't be my employer very long.

Beiing ready for the blowback? Angies list will be the first place they go.

I'll never buy eveready batteries again.

It's not about spite, I take pride in the opportunities and benefits I am able to provide for my team - just had our company Christmas party, a couple of hundred employees and their spouses/dates.  It cost several thousand dollars but was worth it.... gave out awards to some of our best people and had a blast.

The Obamacare thing just makes it too expensive to have full time emloyees and maintain a profitable business.  If the stores lose money then MANY people lose their jobs, and my job is to maintain profitability and growth.

If that means that the new law forces me to change the way that we relate to employees, then so be it.  I didnt want this, but the politicians have forced this upon business and so all we can do is roll with the punches and try to weather the storm.

I have about 45 salaried employees, and the rest are hourly wage earners who work full time for the most part.  Nearly all of my managerment team were hourly employees who worked their way up the ranks, and I have really enjoyed working with young men and women who just needed some training and a chance to prove themselves.

With about 200 hourly employees, my current understanding of the Obamacare laws are that I either have to provide health benefits to Obama's standard or pay $1000 per employee as a fine - which would be a $200,000 fine --- I cannot absorb that kind of loss.

We DO currently offer a health benefit to all employees, but most of my hourly employees dont take advantage of it as they dont find value in contributing to their own health insurance. Our coverage evidently doesn't meet Obama's standard, although I am not sure how far off weare or how much it will cost to change it.

I HOPE that we can find a way to continue to offer full time employment, but if their isnt a way for me to do so then I will be forced, by the politicians, to cut back to a p/t labor force.

That Papa Johns Pizza girl was figured....

...out as costing a whole 15 cents per pizza to cover her employees. You're writing that you can't do that with your product? You are telling me that insurance was supposed ot be cheaper and sopme companies have already seen their kickbacks but you don't because you don't have your employees with insurance already. Wow, great job when you don't need insurance. What if you did need insurance if you end up in an accident that was your fault? No insurance, so, you cost the people that do have coverage to cover for the people that don't. Isn't that what this bill is about? No more free riders? So, where do you think the premium comes from for those people that your business isn't going to cover? EVERYBODY will be covered. But your employees won't make enough money to buy their own insurance with 29 hours. They won't be working for you very long. A man needs to make a living wage and you're not going to be offering that. there will be lots of businesses out there like that? Then they will be having to work around that too. If they see enough businesses like yours doing the exact same thing in order to skirt the law, things will change to address that. Fines. Co-pay. Whatever it takes to cover that worker. And if the GOP is going to stand in the way and sandbag, they will be ousted in 2014. There will be a war at the ballotbox. I don't expect it to be any more than a bump in the road but if spite takes over, there will be heads rolling....

Re: That Papa Johns Pizza girl was figured....

Still working on ways to continue to take care of my employee under the new regulations and red tape....  Our existing insurance that we offer (a Blue cross group plan) may be able to be modified to fall into compliance with the law.

If it cannot be modified and made compliant at a price that allows me to remain profitable, we may have to do what most other retailers and restaurant people are having to do - cut back to all part timers.

It's better for me if I can continue to offer more benefits and opportunity than my  competitors, as that enables me to attract better employees and therefore to provide better customer service, but the reality is that if I cannot do it in a way that allows me to mantain profitability, I will have to make the best decision for the company and my investors.

That is reality.  Any businessman  that tries to ignore reality ends up losing his business and his employees lose their jobs.
