You can watch it in slow-mo via the frame by frame on youtube and it was as clean a hit you can make.

RE: Roughing the Passer ?

Very clean hit I hope he will make QBs worry about him now that he is a Raider I see double team play against him coming up and that should get the tackles one on one coverage on the inside. If he is healthy look out.

Clean hit. Makes me concerned when the regular refs start making calls.

RE: Roughing the Passer ?

I understand that we have not been penalized like we have in the past up to this point, but how much is that on the coaching staff and how much was that on the replacement refs?

You cant make everyone happy, but for me personally, I am glad to see the real refs back. Way too many blown calls, regardless of the team, and games have been way too damn long as well. The NFL product is better off with the real refs IMO.

I will say this though, I did like how the refs let the guys play in the secondary, allowing the WR and DB to compete for the football.

Re: Roughing the Passer ?

We've always been near the top of the league in penalties, even when we had the oldest team in the league and Gruden was our coach. Those Raider teams did not lack discipline, we just consistently got hosed by the refs.

I'm baffled that any Raiders fan would want to go back to seeing the faces of those same refs who have screwed us over time and time again. There's a chance that with the passing of Al, the Raider-hate from the NFL will subside, but I'm not banking on it.

I didn't miss those chumps at all.

I havent missed a game since 88 either in person on tv or radio.. and theres no way in hell i would want watch these shyt replacement refs anymore, The Steelers scored on an illegal pick, several non holding calls and pass interference calls not called in that game, even the all mighty Raider hater Dan Fouts said it was amazing.

We just might be a much better team moving forward, as far as all the past Raiders teams... yeah they were all undisciplined because one man was running the show not the case anymore

Excuse me? How was it Al Davis fault that the Raiders played undisciplined football?

Re: Roughing the Passer ?

listen newbie its a known fact Davis ran this team from top to bottom, in several interviews hes gone on record saying he didnt care about the mistakes or penalties... Tommy Kelly getting chewed out on he sideline against SD was probably the first time i had seen an assistant coach get on a player in this organization.... The players now are being evaluated and held accountable for their play on the field.

I know your gonna come back and say we need replacement referees for some obscure reason, but the bottom line is safety is #1 reason we need those guys back, Heyward Bey laying motionless on the field for 10 minutes is a prime example, the Steelers players after helmet to helmet shots prior to that play and no flag knew he could get away with it

What the hell are you trying to say? That Al Davis wouldn't let his coaches discipline their players?

We were talking about the early 2000's Raiders when we had a veteran team and a disciplinarian coach in Gruden. You're trying to tell me the reason those teams had so many penalties was undisciplined play, and it was Al Davis fault. Try backing up your claim with anything substantial.

Bottom line is the Raiders haven't gotten fair treatment from referees, ever in my lifetime. And according to the old timers, that goes back way before my time. For you to argue that over the years all the penalty issues are due to lack of discipline, which is somehow Al Davis fault, is ridiculous.

The more plausible and obvious problem was that the NFL has held a ridiculous amount of hate for Al Davis ever since he went to war with the NFL as commissioner of the AFL, and the lawsuits against the NFL down the road didn't help. This got reflected on the Raiders, and there is no way to tell if that hate will all of a sudden stop now that AD has passed. These officials have a deep seeded hate for the Raiders, it's obvious, and as bad as the officiating was with the scabs I didn't notice any bias for the first time in my life.

Try backing up my claim, do me a favor rent a football life on Al Davis see his comments on players making mistakes, 2nd rent the 84 Americas game when Matt Millen says Raider rule #1 cheating is encourage Raider rule #2 see rule #1 .... This was an actual sign in the locker room, so you tell me who the players had to show accountabilty too ?

So encouraging cheating means you accept leading the league in penalties? What about the Saints? They had bounties on players, that's cheating. Were they encouraging playing undisciplined football and committing more penalties than any other team? No.

Are you seriously implying that the Raiders players read this sign on the wall, and concluded that Al Davis wanted them to commit penalties? That they didn't have to listen to what their coach said? Didn't have to play disciplined football? Wow. If you think that's convincing support of your asinine claim, you are mistaken.

I've already watched the Al Davis a football life...but I'll watch it again to see if I can pull those quotes out to humor you with, see how well they support your case that the Raiders penalties were due to Al Davis supporting undisciplined football. Highly doubt they will. Will post again on that topic shortly, after I'm done watching the tribute show.

Re: Roughing the Passer ?

Al Davis...

" Just Win. Play hard. Try not to make mistakes, but don't worry about mistakes, because there's only one thing that counts...Just Win."

So Oakryan...somehow you think this quote is telling the players to play sloppy and undisciplined football? You have a thick skull. What he's saying is "Don't worry" about mistakes. You should never think about making mistakes, you should think about winning. It's important for athletes to have a short memory...if you make a mistake, get your mind off it and focus on the next play, keep your mind on the game at hand and your next task.

But you somehow read this and interpret that Al Davis is saying "I don't care if you commit penalties"? eek1 I guess you hear what you want to.

I'm sorry, but you've provided no evidence to back up your ridiculous claims, which equates to you talking out of your ass and making stuff up.

Re: Roughing the Passer ?

try and understand this, If the owner who pulls all the strings doesnt give a phuck about what his players do on the field and for the most part off the field who holds them accountable for their play ? The head coach ?? no dummy in our case it was our owner Your just a little kid, go back to evaluating college talent that your thing, not adult conversation. Ive been watching games since 1980 I doubt you have been alive since you refer to the Gruden years as the glory years. I know its a conspiracy that we were one of the most flagged teams all those years eek1
