It was enough to make Charlie Frye sit up and take notice, provided he was fully awake at the time.
Frye got to work at 6:30 a.m., and was pleasantly surprised to be joined by starting quarterback JaMarcus Russell two days after the worst day of his professional life.
“He got in here Wednesday, earliest he’s ever been,” Frye said. “I think he was in here at 6:30. That’s step one. The things he continues to need to do is stay the course and just maybe do a little bit more.”
Frye’s input is significant because Russell listens to him. When quizzed by the media Thursday about his benching, his development and a series of question regarding his work ethic that have come just about every week, Russell named Frye as someone he talks to for advice.
“He’s a guy that’s been in the game longer than I have and always get tips and reminders or whatever it is from him,” Russell said.
Last season, Frye became the first NFL quarterback to be named starter for the opener and be traded the following week, going from Cleveland to Seattle.
“I went through the same thing that he’s going through right now, being booed, being benched, and it’s tough,” Frye said. `And if you don’t have somebody there that you can talk to or just vent. You can’t hold things in.
“You have to work through this. This is probably one of the toughest parts of his life. If he can get through this, it will make him a much stronger person. I’m much stronger for what I went through.”

Wonder if its a one time thing?

the guy shows up at 6:30 in the morning and the lot of you  rip on him with mcdonalds jokes. i'm not saying he's done anything remotely important, but it's a start.  cynicism can't be too good for your health.

Rich Gannon had been in the league for how many years and finally Gruden had to get him a key to the facility because he would beat gruden to work,,,Russell should have been doing this from the day he signed.

I might buy it after a few years.  i dont think he all the sudden got a work ethic.  if he had it then he is a real pos for just now showing it.

Uhh, that would make him late. He would think it was earlier than it really is-rather than later.

Agreed. To be the man and the leader of the team you have to put in the work. Nice to see him working towards something though.

Id rather see Charlie Frye get a chance.  He gets it.

yeah im with the majority here. i think Russell showed up at 6:30am not because he WANTED TO but because he felt like HE HAD TO so he pleases the fans and teamates.

This is kinda like when people make a new year's resolution to lose weight and they hit the gym religiously in Jan but by mid Feb their back to be fat arses.

This was all over the local news last night with the sports anchors gleeming hope for this weekend.  Charlie Frye's comments were all over the news too.  After hearing Frye, it is clear to me that work ethic has been an issue with JR and he at least is trying to do better....he just needs to keep it up.  Although I still think he is a punk from what he did to the fans exiting the stadium after the last couple losses at home.

I would just as soon he try showing up on game day, READY TO PLAY WELL, pretty pathetic when an NFL QB coming into work at 6:30 AM is even considered newsworthy...
