final game assessments

final game assessments

Defensive was a pleasant surprise. Mack imo has improved week to week and made some nice playes durring game. King may end up being the best punter in the league for the next decade. Drew looks good. Runs with authority and looks fresh.

Now the bad: in reality we only are going to go as far as the q.b takes us and as I stated before, Matt Schaub may very well lead us to the first pick overall. Its as if Reggie pulled a Adam Sandler in Billy Madison and looked at Schaub and said " heres a nice piece of shyt " because thats what he gives us as the uncontested starter. If I were Allen I would go to McKenzie and say look; Schaub is not the guy you think he is and so since MY job is on the line, ive decided to live and die with Carr/Mcgloin ( take your pick ) as my starter. If you want to fire me go ahead, but I refuse to put a guy out
There who cant even move the ball vs. #2's in pre season. imo Schaub looks old and slow and not really into it. Its sad when Phill Simms talks better about the back up then the starter as even he sees what Frankenberry and Allen can not.

On defense Mack finally shined. That was a big relief. Sadly our secondary gave it up too easy again. Still it looks like there is hope. I pray Hayden is worth his pick and delivers week one?

Offensively we suck. We stink, it's rank, and we are in for a long year. I miss Pryor already.

Re: final game assessments

Defense: After the first series where Lacy ran them over, I thought the front 7 played better than I expected. I think the Moore injury and subsequent Antonio Smith altercation slowed them down a little but they got back up and put good pressure on the QB. The secondary looks horrible and confused and slow. GB was killing them on those quick inside  slants. Here's a note to Tarver. When you're playing against a quick strike offense, think of  the defense you'd normally call and call the exact opposite. Most of the D can't tackle for crap but what's new?

Offense: Yep, Schaub is no good. I don't get the play calling at all.  The O line is not much better than last year. Different, not better. I don't understand the routes they are having Streetor run. Phil Simms actually said that Schaub was the most talented QB in the NFL. Then he started back tracking eluding to "I said he was talented, I didn't say he was good."
Oh well, at lest I'm playing fantasy football this year so I have a chance at the hope of winning at least one game with that team.......

The D was better than expected, but I didn't expect a lot. Burris looked like he was not prepared after he replaced Moore. I think DA is settling on a scheme for Mack. He talked about overloading him to see what he could do. I believe he learned that he's a rookie. Really disappointed in our OL, They need time to gel. But, and I hope this doesn't offend you guys too much, but Wiz is not the center we need to anchor the line. Gabe Jackson is a future pro-bowler. When he catches up, watch out.

Re: final game assessments

Green bay put up 31 points by the beginning of the 4th Q. Wouldn't have been bad if the Raider offense had put up 42 instead of 7 so I guess I expected a lot more than you did. I thought this defense would be top 5.  I'm giving Burris a pass because he was backing up Moore who some thought might have a career ending injury -- so that gets into your game head. Plus, Moore and Burris are two different types of players. Moore attacks, Burris reacts. I agree with your thoughts on the O line but I wasn't expecting much.  And Jackson looks like the real deal.
I expected to O Line to be bottom 8 and they look like bottom 10. Defense -I expected top 5 and I see bottom 20.
