Can't help but feel.

Can't help but feel.

I Can't help but feel there are still a few players sucking air from the team.... flushed 20, 17. Some of you may say they are a best players... but all I see is inconsistency noidea

IF DA Had a number I would be calling his as well.... we could have won this game today. God Hue and Tom had way more fire then this guy. Not to mention watching him clap his hands as 20s (I'm refusing to say his name) touchdown was overturned kind of pissed me off.

Like I said.... We should/could have won

If you're calling people out, add Jano. He makes his field goal at the end of half we probably win?!?

#20McFadden had a good game considering the colts were putting up a 8-9 man defensive front the whole game. #17Moore also had a good game. Except he didn't defend the first INT.
Allen did a pretty good job as well as the other coaches. I just don't know how much of a leader he is.

RE: Can't help but feel.

Moore was quiet most of the game but came up with a couple huge plays. The TD catch on 3rd down, the 4th down catch on the last drive. He's not going to have 100 yards every week.

McFadden disappointed but it wasn't like there were big holes for him to run through. He should have got that second foot down on the TD pass though.

I don't think it's worth pointing fingers after one week. If the same guys still stink after the bye, then we can start talking. A lot of players made key mistakes, Jano with the missed FG, Pryor with the picks and the sack, Houston, Branch, and a couple others on D had key penalties. The team played better than a lot of people expected but came up just short. They should take confidence in the fact that they hung with a playoff team and focus on correcting their mistakes for week 2. Jacksonville is a very winnable game, Gabbert put up 2 INT and one more that was reversed, 6 sacks, and 0 points.

The first INT was intended for Streater.

Maybe we win, maybe we don't. But as far as Jano goes, he misses his bud Lechler which was one of the stupidest mistakes Reggie McKenzie made in his life.

Anyone blaming the coaching today has their head up their back side. They started the right QB, they made the right calls, and they had us in a game we were projected to lose badly. Unfreakenbelievable anyone would diss on the coaching after that performance.

My bad then. I was watching in X-low def mode. Couldn't really see the numbers. Did you see the moves the colts DE was putting on barnes? It was the same phucking move every single time yet Barnes couldn't defend it.

I didn't blame the coaching I was referring to his lack of fire.... as for 20 and 17. Guys AP goes up against those kinds of fronts all the time. and as for 17 I think STreater is a better players. They played a good game. I'm just pointing out things we need to take the next step.

Fire from the head coach, and Consistency from our quote un quote star players.

Don't misinterpret my post, it isn't a bash... I was highly impressed.

Good.

I don't put much weight into "fire" from a coach - I care more about the right calls, even more important the right adjustments.  The DC and OC did their jobs today, the HC let them or helped them - don't know.  Fact is I thought they coached a heck of a game;

I didn't expect 4-5 sacks.  I didn't expect that defense to hold them to 21 points, I didn't expect our offense to score 17 and potentially store 27 (field goal and touchdown short) both of which we had shots at.

I don't think it's lack of fire. I think it's lack of talent on the O line and run blocking in general. Considering how much the O line sucks, I think the coaches did a good job. AP has a much better O line and down hill blockers.

RE: Can't help but feel.

You do understand your speaking from a point of expectations then right? meaning you didn't look for them to do as well...

I'm speaking from a stand point of what we need to do to make it to the next level such as a playoff team.

Granted I may have my head up my backside to believe this team could do that, but that's really my point.

If these coaches had Veldheer and Watson in place of what we had today I think McFadden has a decent game and we win. This team was coached well today. It was the coaching and Pryor that kept us in it; I remember thinking with 7.52 left in the 4th qtr thanks it wasn't suppose to be this close and here we are with the lead and all. I even think the refs had to help Indy a little with the lame call on DHB and the lame pass interference call on 3rd and short.

Raw... I see what your saying and for the most part I agree... on the fact our line sucks... im not sure we could have done much better with Vlad in there seeing as 20 had him all last year and didn't do much better...

2.8 ypc today against a def that was 29th last year vs the run. confused I was just looking forward to him running wild, but then again... we never know what to expect from each team year to year.

But Raw and 4th.... don't confuse me. this thread was for looking forward. I guess the question is.... with Vlad and Watson in place... are we there yet... do we have what it takes to make the playoffs. confused 17 isn't a true number one... and it has been stated more then once by more then one coaching staff he lacks focus and consistency.

20 is coming off his worse year as a raider and he follows it up with a 2.8 ypc against a pretty crappy run defense... one which should have been winded to the point needing oxygen tanks after chasing Pryor all day.

To me fire is very important.... maybe im spoiled on the days of Bill Parcells, Ditka, Cohwer, and Gruden or watching players like Ray Lewis, Warren Sapp... Payton Manning

And yes I made some remarks from the game today, but that’s doesn’t
reflect on the team as a whole…. The thread was meant for looking forward, I forgot
about DA

Sometimes I’m not even sure that guy is alive. TO damn stoic
for me

Re: Can't help but feel.

A Coach can inspire the players. Does DA (Cool hand Luke)? I thought Hue did, and after Cable, and Shell I liked the passion Hue had. He got a little full of himself, but it was nice to see some passion from the Head Coach. Great coaches , like Lombardi, make their players play far above themselves. We are going to need that going forward, even with the new set of good rookies the next 2 years. Just wish Cool Hand Allen showed some life, and got some out of the team.

Re: Can't help but feel.

Are we there yet - no.

I agree 17 doesn't have it, I've always thought of him as a #3.  Watching Boldin a true #1 shows us we're lacking that.  Now think about T.P.   No true #1, nothing special in the OL, and still he had us in the game with 33 seconds left.  That impacts #20 too.   That poor OL, the ability to cover anyone out of the backfield 1/1, and no real TE threat makes it possible for a "D" to focus on #20 and some of TP's best runs today were #20 fakes.

Defensively we are seriously lacking up front pressure, and a player at LB that defenses have to worry about.  C.Woods is a stop gap and played pretty crappy today - see that TD run by Luck.   We'll need a real safety soon too.

Yes indeed... Pryor has my attention, and the rest of the league for that matter excited LOL. I can't wait and see what he can do with more time and coaching... the last person to wear that number didn't come anywhere near  that kind of heart.

As the topic stated.... its just a feeling. I pray im wrong... please guys... give me more. Pryor keep up the good work, and DA... im going to go ahead and give you credit for getting this group of players to look respectable. I can see I was wrong and wasn't looking at it from that stand point with him.

RE: Can't help but feel.

I also think coaching fire is overrated. The thing about the HOF/SB winning coaches you listed is that they got their guys ready to play every single week. If a guy with fire can't motivate or adequately prepare his guys, he's going to be out of a job. Think Mike Singletary and his famous "can't play with him" rant about Vernon Davis, he had plenty of fire but didn't get Davis to buy in the way Harbaugh has. That's on the coach, isn't it?

Great coaches come in all types of personalities. For every Bill Cowher or Mike Ditka, there's a Tom Landry, Chuck Noll, or Vince Lombardi. Toughness, preparation, flexibility, innovation, motivating and evaluating players, these are the things coaches should focus on. If an emotional guy fails in any of those he is toast.
