I say we sign him today

I say we sign him today

Cedric Benson looks good!  I think we missed getting him last year, but now would be a perfect time to grab him.  I see him being a perfect fit for our RB group.

McFadden
Benson
Jennings
Stewart

If McFadden goes down, we will be in trouble again.  I like this grouping, and believe we could pick him up early for a fair price.

Check this out.

Reggie could have taken him last year and instead traded Bruce C for Goodman? Go figure, but I'm guessing Reggie knows more than I do. Also with 4 late picks there are an abundance of RBs there.

RE: I say we sign him today

I was hoping we would get him or Green-Ellis last year. But 4th is right, we had a chance to get him, even brought him in for a workout, and passed on him. Has anything changed since then that would make us sign him?

Also, a team like Atlanta considers Michael Turner washed up at age 31 with 1700 career rushes and receptions. Benson is 30, and has 1720 career rushes and receptions. Is it worth going after a guy like that? I'm fine with going into the season with McFadden, Jennings, Stewart, and Reece.

I think the dynamic of the running game is way different. How many RBs are making as much as elite LTs and even other linemen. Briesel was given a $20 million dollar guard deal. Most RBs are way below that. The few elite RBs, AP types, have a pretty short window and still need a OL that can get them into the secondary.

The vast numbers of RB among the top 200 draft picks and even some that will sign as UDFAs who might make it cause teams to focus more on a committee of cheap backs plus a solid OL.
