Taiwan Jones... cornerback?

Taiwan Jones... cornerback?

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000143861/art icle/taiwan-jones-will-move-to-cb-oakland-raiders- gm-says

Does this mean that:
A) we are planning on taking a RB in the draft or signing a free agent
B) Jones sucks as a RB
C) Our CB are so bad we think our RB has a chance at getting playing time there

Could be all three. It's clearly not based on following the Jets' idea that Joe McKnight would play there. He almost never played. I think it's a good move, our 3 RB have similar skill sets, just different talent levels that separate them. We need a big back that can run like Michael Bush without sacrificing Reece's lead blocking.

This is an interesting move I heard it was possible that he wanted to try CB but never really thought the idea would ever materialize.
So the remaining backs from last season are McFadden, Reece and Goodson I agree we need a big back like Bush maybe RM will pick one up in the later rounds. I like Reece he is so versatile he can play many positions and play them well he is a team player.

RE: Taiwan Jones... cornerback?

I like Reece too, but injuries forced him to start at RB which forced our hand a bit. I prefer him at FB where he has more options and where defenders are maybe less used to game planning for, as that position gets phased out. Mostly I like him there because that means we aren't completely devastated at RB.

We obviously can't break the bank for a RB. There's some quality free agent RB out there, and I've been in favor of drafting Lattimore and letting him heal through what will most likely be a crappy rebuilding season anyway. Last year a lot of RB weren't getting picked up, and we were hearing rumors about big name guys like Ced Benson well after the draft. But whether the top RB get signed quickly or not, I'd give Jackie Battle a shot in training camp. He looked decent for the Chargers against us in the Terrelle Pryor game, and definitely won't cost much. He's big, 6-2 240, and has only really played 2 years at RB, with a couple years of special teams and token carries before that. His stats aren't impressive, but he could be a decent short yardage/change of pace guy that we could get for around the veteran minimum. If he isn't capable of that role, or a better RB becomes available, cut him in camp or preseason.

There may be some good FA RB's available like you say I am not against bringing someone in and take a look at what they have. I can say one thing it will be a lot easier to find one now Knapp is gone as we seen not all fit in his offense. I would like to see what RM can do in this draft his hands are still tied but not like last season.

Its like i said before last year got started our secondary is garbage and taiwan jones played corner his first couple years at eastern washington now you combine that with the lack of playing time at a crowded position and the fact hes willing to do what it takes to stay in the nfl. Do me a favor dont blame Carson Palmer if he cant play db like you blame him for everything else that went wrong last year.

I don't know anything about his college career at CB but they saw his speed as something to move him to RB? Sounds like he didn't do very well at CB and now we wanna try it again?

How do we know he sucks at RB when he didn't get any PT.  When we saw him in preseason he was making plays then he got hurt.

Raiders coaching has yet to prove they are worth a damn to experiment with projects, need a true DB, trade Jones or leave him at RB

We don't know for sure, but evidence is there. His profile on NFL.com says he appeared in 14 games last year. He got 6 carries. When DMC and Goodson got hurt, we turned to our fullback, then turned to a practice squad guy. Jeremy Stewart would have never been brought up and got 4x as many carries if Jones could run. He was active for all of the games that Stewart got carries, apparently playing mostly on special teams coverage units.

Reason being he woud run a down and then be hurt! and then a sprained ankle! I saw where Ford ran a KR back after two seasons ago and he started hogging the kick offs! He hits on Special Teams and plays kick offs well as a defender!  He is better suited hitting, not getting hit! P.S. were you a Fan of Palmer when he was in Cincy? ( Inflated passing yards and all ! Where was our Probowl WR?) If you were go back to rooting for Cincy! lmao! Palmer is a tad better than Lienert LMAO! and that's not saying much at all! Im still waiting for the great C.P.

We can't count on a guy who gets hurt like that even as a backup, especially at a position that takes a beating that much. At least Ford has some production under his belt, so we have a reason to wait for him to get healthy. Jones has done nothing and is a pick from the old regime. If the switch to CB moves him from the trainer's table to the field, it's the right move.

Not sure where the Palmer questioning comes from, or the disrespectful "go back to rooting for Cincy" comment. For the record, my opinion on Palmer is that he was an elite QB for 2 or 3 years, and has been riding his reputation ever since. If you're waiting for the great CP then you've been duped like a lot of others, he's average, no better, no worse. I never liked him or rooted for Cincy, except maybe in a single playoff game against the Chargers or something. But here he had an understandably crappy first year and a pretty solid second year considering the running game, defense, and special teams gave him nothing. He did a decent job despite the circumstances, and saying he was a tad better than Leinart is absolutely stupid. Not to rant about how crappy Leinart is, but his main responsibility as the primary backup is to always be ready to play in case the starter can't, and he proved completely unprepared when that moment came. Against an average defense he put up a 44 QB rating and couldn't put together a decent drive. Leinart sucks as a starter, sucks as a backup, and can't switch positions, he should be out of the league. Palmer is by no means a franchise QB, but at least he got us almost as many first downs as the opposition on the season, and his rating was almost double Leinart's. His yards didn't lead to wins and his slow starts led to teams jumping out to leads on us, but at least the ball moved at times. Pryor was enticing vs SD but is still very raw, so Palmer by default gives us the best chance to compete. He's not going to win more than 4 or 5 games with this team, and unless fans can accept a tanked season to draft a real franchise QB we have to start Palmer. But tanking has the possible effect of undermining the players' effort, if the front office doesn't go 100% to put a winning product on the field why should they? That's another topic for another time though.

PS You ended every sentence with an exclamation point. It makes it seem like you are yelling all the time. I picture Dave Chappelle as Samuel Jackson selling his beer.
