Middle Linebacker Provides Woes For Oakland Raiders, Success For

IN THIS STORY:
play PSD fantasy sportsDecember 22
oakland tribune

"Not all Butkus Award winners are created equal.

Carolina Panthers rookie Luke Kuechly, winner of the award out of Boston College as college football's top linebacker in 2011, moved from outside linebacker to the middle in Game 6 after an injury to starter Jon Beason.

Kuechly has logged more film time than Brad Pitt, showing up in nearly every frame with 138 tackles, second in the NFL.

Meanwhile, third-year Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain, winner of the Butkus Award in 2009, is invisible, failing to provide even a supporting role.

McClain has been ineffective, indifferent and ultimately inactive after watching a 15-0 win over the Kansas City Chiefs from the sidelines last week following a two-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team.

Kuechly, the No. 9 pick in the 2012 NFL draft, is the future, counted upon to be the heart of the Panthers defense for the next decade. McClain, the No. 8 overall pick in 2010, is expected to be either released or traded after the season.

The Raiders will be looking directly across the line at the player they thought they had in 2009 when they visit the Panthers on Sunday at Bank of America Stadium.

"When I see a rookie linebacker tackle Tony Gonzalez, then get up and not back down when Tony tries to shrug him off, and you see it happen two or three more times, you know a guy's got a little something to him," Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Knapp said. "He's

always around the ball. He's fast to react. He's got pretty good instincts. It does show up on tape.""

That is why we need Manti Te'O for our middle linebacker this year .

The DT (Star L.) would be better IMHO!

Harder to find DT that dominate lie he does late in the draft?

MLB can be found later! Wagner in Seattle was a 3rd-4th rounder from Utah St. !

Manti is a kind hearted guy that can be a star for our team off the field... And of course on the field as well...

Big Notre Dame fan and watched him all four years... He has made the extra efforts to improve his game play on his own... Great all around player and can give any Defense the drive to play harder just like Ray Lewis...

Star also takes plays off and gives up on plays that are going away from him too all can be seen on his tapes  .

Very Unmotivated player now in college for 100% of the games . Hate to see what he does with getting a nice pay day when he is drafted .

I really think Christo Bulikidi can become a good DT.  This guy needs coached up, he was playing a LOT for an NFL team after not starting football until later and only playing at a Small school level.

His learning curve had to be huge and he actually has a ton of potential.

I personally think the hole at MLB is MUCH BIGGER than the need a DT.

Would love to see them get Te'o

If they got Star I would be all for that too or Hankins.

Te'o is a heck of a football player though and I HATE NOTRE DAME...but I have to admit the kid is good and a GREAT leader.

This team has NO LEADERS on defense OR offense....

Couldn't agree more, Te'O is far and away the best choice to start re-building our defense.

See Lewis, Ray and what he did for the Ravens franchise

When u build a Defense you start on h DL. I wouldn't mind Teo, but please draft big body's up front. When's the last time Oak did that? D. Russell...

Re: Middle Linebacker Provides Woes For Oakland Raiders, Success

Grabbing Te'O and still plenty of big DL players to get to help plug into the lines for him .

Anthony White from MSU
Brandon Williams from Missouri Southern State
Chris Jones from Bowling Green
Josh Boyd from Mississippi State
Akeem Spence from Illinois
Sylvester Williams from North Carolina
Jordan Hill from Penn State
Brent Russell from Georgia Southern
TJ Barnes from Georgia Tech

So as you can see plenty of DT to grab for us to pair with Christo and re-signed Bryant as a DT rotation for us .
That any of these players would be cheaper and play harder then the bums we replace of Seymour and Kelly .

Michael Buchanan from Illinois
William Gholston from MSU
David Taylor from South Carolina
Tank Carradine from FSU
Datone Jones from UCLA
Macalliah Goodman from Clemson
Brad Madison from Missouri
Craig Roh from Michigan
David Bass from Missouri Western State
Marquis Jackson from Portland State
Margus Hunt from SMU

So as you can see there is plenty of DE to get to in this draft and here was just a few of them that can replace Shaunny and Tollefson

I understand we need a DT that can be a big body to stop the run, BUT Manti Teo is a guy that can be there for the team and represent the Raiders as an organization. I do not see a DT that has that kind of character. I have never seen a guy at MLB like Teo.

He is a star that will be playing in as many or more pro bowls than Ray Lewis.

Now that Ray Lewis is retiring from the NFL there needs to be a LB to replace his type of sperate, and thats Teo.

The Raiders need this guy and will be a huge mistake if they dont draft him.

William Gholston is a guy I WOULD LOVE TO NAB in RD 2....if we had a 2nd RD pick....that sucks.

This draft has DEPTH at DT AND DE like no draft I have seen in some time, but most will be gone by RD3 and we could have nabbed a starting MLB in RD1 Te'o a starting DE or DT in RD2 and a starting DE/DT in RD 3......but no.

We have a 33-34 year old QB who crumbles in crunch time and tosses INTs and loses games instead of wins them, who may not even be on the team past next year instead....ugh it hurts.

That is too high for Gholston don't think he goes any higher then maybe a 3rd if he has a good combine/Pro day ?

Most drafts I've seen him as a 4th rd pick as the earliest for him . Not bad player but would rather us look at White instead if we are going to be drafting a Spartan DL player this season and then Johnny Adams-CB for the 2nd player before I grab Gholston . JMO
