Game Thread - Colts @ Jets - Sun., Oct. 14 (1PM)

VS

So we're 2-3.  Coming off a blow out vs San Francisco, the team showed resiliency vs the #1 ranked NFL team Houston Texans.  Hopefully the team can build on that moral victory.
This game should not be taken lightly by no stretch of the imagination.  The Colts are coming off an inspirational win for coach Chuck Pagano.  They have incredible momentum on their side.  I'm hoping Rex Ryan can start dialing up some blitzes to just destroy Andrew Luck who week in and week out is demonstrated why he was touted so high coming out of Stanford.
I'am expecting to see a larger role for Demario Davis.  Considering Josh Mauga has been placed on I.R. IMHO, he has showen the speed we're lacking at the edge.  We will truly see what we have in this kid soon enough.  Quentin Coples has to step up big time.  We need some sort of push up front along side Damon Harrison who may have to start if Sione Po'hua doesn't go.  Aaron Maybin must start getting more playing time as Calvin Pace and Bryan Thomas are just too slow and old to cover and bull rush anymore.  Time for this youth movement on defensive front to take full force of this squad.
As far as the offense. All indications is that Dustin Keller will be back.  Hopefully this can give Mark Sanchez that well deserved saftey net to throw it to an actual target that he's familiar with.
Staying on Mark Sanchez, imho, he has got to step up already.  I feel the coaches are growing restless at this point on his regression as a QB.  Not creating window lanes to throw to wide open recievers.  Staring down.  Slump shoulders and just absolutely no life whatsoever out on the pitch.
Tony Sparano has got to shake things up.  It's getting embarrassing.  calling time outs on a 3rd and 1? Calling time outs on substitution packages?   Why not just give Tim Tebow a series or two and see if he creates a spark if this team is faltering.
This is a game the Jets MUST WIN.  Especially with New England coming up.

Jets-24
Colts-17

Good kickoff, Dan. Lots of questions in need of answers. Offense has to start looking less disorganized and more like a pro offense. Sparano has to show that he can prepare this offense for a game--if we don't score at least 17 against the Colts 23rd ranked D, then changes will be needed. Defense has to stop a running game for a change. If Donald Brown puts up a benjamin, we are in deep trouble in the weeks ahead. Otherwise, Luck and the Colts OL will be a test of our pass defense, since they are not a power running club.

The Colts juest beat GB, so I'm not taking them lightly. I do think we can win though. We better with the Pats looming.

Need another good game from Cro on Wayne.

Also, Hill and Keller should be back.

Harrison getting more time at NT is exciting.

Can Kerley keep it up?

Is Harris back?

Need to see more Coples and Davis too.

I don't know what to think. I do know that our offense is one the worst in the league and
Sparano better come up with a decent game plan, preferably one that doesn't involve burning time outs because the wrong personnel is on the field.

This is a must win game for the Jets. I won't take the Colts lightly after they just spanked the Packers.

Time for the youth movement.

Go Jets...Cyborg

can't disagree on that.

to take it even further, sanchez's jet career could possibly be on the line.

i'm really not sure what to think here.  if the team that showed up and fought with the texans shows up, i think we can win.  i'm just worried that the team comes out flat after monday's loss.  i think rex got the troops fired up after the niner blowout and with an appearance on national tv.  just hope they can go to the well again.

likewise, the colts rode a huge emotional wave last week, playing at home for their coach. it will be interesting to see if they can keep that up.

hopefully mark and his revamped WR corps have another week of practice to get on the same page.  obviously a return of keller and/or hill would help greatly.

luck has looked pretty sharp early in his career. i'd assume cro will be on wayne, and hopefully the cro that played so well against andre johnson shows up.  brown doesn't present near the challenge that foster does.  but he is pretty good catching out of the backfield, and luck likes to use his TEs - areas that are glaring weaknesses for the jets defense.

looking at the schedule before the year, i never thought the colts game would be so critical, or i would be so concerned going into the game.  but here we are, and i just don't know what to think...

Don't think Hill is back. That would be great though!

Hmm, you know this team has a ceiling based on what you've seen though, right or no?  Do you think this could be a play-off team?  The floor and ceiling of this team is huge, right?  I could see this team losing out or I could see this team winning 8 games.  I predict 6 (likely Colts, Jax, Miami, and Bills).

Jets aren't as void of talent as you, and others, have said.  The Jets WR depth is better than advertised, IMO.  I like, and I may be the only one, Holmes, Hill, Kerley, and Schilens...and Keller.  Even with Holmes out I like this group (size and speed if good and only Hill needs to improve his route running).

We can't pretend Wallace, Brown, and Sanders (Steelers) didn't have growing pains bnefore they became elite and non of them were household names until they got past them.  You could say the same for Jennings, Nelson, and Jones (Packers) again are a hidge podge of WRs that were molded into an "elite" group, I could throw the Giants group of Nicks, Cruz, and Hixon that took time to develop...significant time for Cruz and Hixon (even Manningham was a disappointment that had to find his niche in the group).

I honestly think with a legit QB, Hill (6'3 215 4.2 40), Schilens (6'2 4.3 40), and Kerley 5'9 4.5 40 and Keller would look really good.  Call me crazy, but I love watching these guys every week.  Even with no Holmes.

I think this group (especially if Hill and Keller are back) could have a big week against a week Colts secondary.  I just pray Sanchez can get them the ball, because Sparano keeps calling shots down the field and Sanchez keeps missing them.

Re: Game Thread - Colts @ Jets - Sun., Oct. 14 (1PM)

A number of posters said this team was devoid of talent when Holmes & Revis were healthy, and I disagree. The team we had out there monday night was good enough to hang with a Super Bowl favorite. Had we had Revis, Holmes, Keller, Hill, Pouha available/healthy, we win. As it was, we should've won if we got even an average performance out of Sanchez. He's had 4 straight games under 50% completition......... you can't even call him average at this point. I think our talent was greatly underrated prior to the season. Offensively, Holmes, Hill, Kerely, & Keller are plenty of weapons. Sanchez needs to step up and soon. The secondary has stepped up big( Cromartie deserves all the praise he's getting, but Wilson came to play monday night too) and I'm interested to see Harrison with extended playing time at NT. The olb's are too slow to seal off the edge in the running game & we're getting burned there.

Maybe, just maybe with Brown out, we can hold someone under 100 yards rushing. Not too confident in that though. noidea

If the "Jekyll" Jets show up, will be a good game, which we have a shot to win.  If the "Hyde" Jets show up, we get our arse kicked again.

Shake the dice and roll !  noidea

Not trying to make an excuse here, I'm just trying to offer what I feel may be an issue with the running game. We switched from a zone blocking scheme( which is what Greene had at Iowa as well) to a man scheme. I don't believe our line is overrated, but I do believe that Greene isn't a fit for the new scheme........ at least not yet. With the watered down training camp/practice schedules, the lack of opportunity to work in pads is making the transition a lot slower. Maybe we should go back to zone blocking even if it's not something Sparano believes in.

yup.

Donald Brown, RB, IND
News: Colts coach Bruce Arians announced Wednesday running back Donald Brown is out 2-3 weeks after having surgery for torn knee cartilage Tuesday. Brown was injured on the last play of Sunday's game against the Packers. Arians said Vick Ballard will start Week 6 at N.Y. Jets, but Delone Carter will be used to help spell Ballard.
Analysis: Brown has had durability issues dating back to his days in college and they have crept up on him again in 2012. It's a shame too since he is coming off his best game of the season Week 5. Unless Ballard or Carter break out during his absence, Brown should get his starting job back once healthy. Stash him in Fantasy for the next couple of weeks

I don't know much about the "New Look Colts" but If we can get our run game going and get Keller back (in his home state too). Rex should be able to create some Funky looks on Defense to confuse Andrew Luck into thinking were bringing the HOUSE...I think that we can win this game.....
Good Sanchez 30-17 W
OK Sanchez 24-20 W
Bad Sanchez 17-24 L

I was actually a supporter of Carter this past draft and his brother which I believe he went to the Steelers. I really hope I was wrong about him.
