Offensive Line
I think it's time this unit be called out for what is going on. Quite frankly this OL is not very good. You basically have a LT and a Center. After that they need a makeover. Brandon Moore is done. He was abused last night and he just hasn't played all that well for a while. Slausson is mediocre at best. They are having trouble in protection and they can't block worth a damn. Even when they go away from Greene and use Powell or McKnight (with more speed) the holes are not there for them.

RE: Offensive Line
I totally agree and that's why I'm not that down on Greene. It also doesn't help the o-line that the QB doesn't scare the opposing defense, whch allows them to jam the box.

To operate play action with success requires a run game that makes the defense account for it with bodies that could otherwise be in pass coverage. Defenses can simply flood the passing zones and force the QB to find WRs in smaller windows and/or crowd the box and pressure the QB. Since the Jets don't have a HR threat until Hill returns, there isn't much fear of a gamebreaker.

RE: Offensive Line
3 sacks last night and at least one could have been avoided. Our line is better than the Bears...our QB and RB is not. Greene gets no yards after contact, the other runner last night got plenty.

Re: Offensive Line
Free agent OT Ed Wang (formerly of Bills and Raiders) was at Jets facility today (presumably for a tryout), he tweeted. # nyj

Ed Wang Scouting ReportDrafted 5.9 in 2010 by BUF2010 NFL Combine Results | 40-Yard Dash | 5.14 |

2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:Ed Wang, OT, Virginia TechBy his junior season it was clear that Ed Wang was the anchor of the Hokies' offensive line. He made the move from right tackle to left tackle for that reason in 2008. Wang has gotten better and better as time has gone on and his best performances in 2008 were in the ACC Championship game and the Orange Bowl. His presence and leadership on the line has turned Virginia Tech's offensive line into one of the best in the nation. At 6-5 and 310 pounds, Wang is a relatively big tackle who is playing faster and stronger this year than he did last season. The Hokies had some questions about their ground game heading into the 2009 season after projected starter Darren Evans went down with an ACL injury. All the Hokies had to turn to were inexperienced players. Redshirt freshman Ryan Williams is easily the Atlantic Coast Conference's top rusher six weeks into the 2009 season and Williams has Wang to largely thank for that success. Wang might not be considered one of the top four or five tackles in this class, but he is working his way up the draft boards and could be a first or second round selection by April. 2/1 Update: So far, Wang is going in the opposite direction. He looked sluggish and slow at workouts and during the Senior Bowl. Despite finishing off his collegiate season pretty strong with the Hokies, Wang is sliding down draft boards right now. He will need to have better workouts over the next couple of months to be anything more than a fourth round selection. 4/5 Update: Wang did have some great workouts, most notably at Virginia Tech's pro day. He ran the 40 in 5.09 and 5.12 seconds and proved to be surprisingly quick and nimble. That has some thinking that he could even sneak into the first round. That may be pushing it a little too much, but Wang has all the tools to be a great left tackle in the NFL and he should be off the board in the second or third round.

Before the draft I was calling for Moore to be replaced b/c I thought he was done too, but to no avail he's still here. Next's years' draft has alot of available options to fix that (in the SEC)....

At least you don't have Wayne Hunter to kick around any more.

Re: Offensive Line
While one game does not absolve the Oline from the struggles of the previous 5, its important to note the change in blocking scheme + RB learning where the holes will be takes time. just keep building. Also of note yesterday Smith played quite a few snaps in place of Fergurson. Don't know if he was hurt of it was the plan ut when I first saw him I thought he was playing guard.
and of particular pleasure to me is we have not mentioned Howard at all over the last few games. None, Zero Negatives. No penalties, did not get beat once. We found a gem here. Great game for the trenches.
...and the Home of the... JETS

Re: Offensive Line
from how I saw it yesterday ... it looks like we have a 7 man rotation on the line, Smith and Ducasse played quite a bit .... Slauson did some time at Center .. so we are getting the big guys breathers during a long drive..

Re: Offensive Line
Rex had mentioned in one of his recent pressers that he intended to rotate the o-line in the same manner that he has been rotating the d-line. I think we saw some of that yesterday.

Future Jet line:
LT - Brick LG - Schlauderaff - Slauson will be playing for his old Coach Callahan in Dallas next season. C - Mango RG - Ducasse - Moore is in the last year of his contract. RT - Howard - Jason Smith is due a bundle (bonus) next year that we can't afford.
Go Jets...Cyborg

Go Jets...Cyborg which means that we will surely be drafting or adding through free agency some replacements.
