So that's it? No explanation whatsoever? I'm hopeful as F^%&, but atleast give a reason.

They won't be fine, they never are, if winning a Super Bowl is what you strive for.

Based on your criteria, then I guess 14 other franchises have NEVER been "fine"... Buffalo, Cincy Cleveland Houston Tennessee Jax San Diego Arizona Seattle Philly Detroit Minnesota Carolina Atlanta ...and 6 franchises have been fine "ONE" time just like the Jets St. Louis New Orleans Tampa Bay Chicago Baltimore Kansas City In terms of your absolute criteria to judge "fine", the Jets are consistent with or better than approx 63% of the teams in the NFl...just sayin... ...my response is also a general reaction to the other "woe is me as a Jets fan" or "it only happens to the Jets" posts that litter this site...just tired of Jets fans who are so egocentric and negative in their thinking about the Jets... metjetgal wrote: They won't be fine, they never are, if winning a Super Bowl is what you strive for.

In terms of your absolute criteria to judge "fine", the Jets are consistent with or better than approx 63% of the teams in the NFl...just sayin...

If they get into the playoffs and win a couple of games, would I whine, no. Heck, if they even sniff the playoffs this year I would be happy the way things are going. However, the Jets aren't fine to me by any stretch. I guess it depends on what you expect out of the team.

This says everything I have ever thought about SOJF. I think the goal for every Jet fan should be to have a team that year and year out has a shot to compete for a championship. The Giants, the Steelers, the Pats, the Ravens, the Saints, the Packers, all of these franchises are built with that goal in mind. I'm sure that is the Jets' goal too. And in 2008, 2009, they got close. Great seasons. The problem is that now the Jets are mediocre at best, while those other teams I mentioned continue on and will be right in the mix again. The Jets are a franchise that can't seem build on success or make success sustainable. This year, I think reality has set in for every Jet fan that this is going to be a bad season. And it's hard to see given all the holes on this roster how they improve enough next year to compete with those elite teams. So we are looking at yet another rebuilding effort. The teams I mentioned don't ever rebuild, they just reload. We rebuild. And it is painful to watch and have to wait again, and again for another shot. For some of us, the wait has been far too long. Instead of the curse of the Bambino, we have the curse of Dan Marino, or Tom Brady, or John Elway, or whoever, take your pick. That's the biggest problem with the Jets, and why we as fans get so frustrated. Look at the Yankees, the model sports franchise in terms of building enduring success. Then look at a team like the Cleveland Indians. A team that had a few great seasons, and then, they fall off the baseball grid again. That's the Jets. They are relevant for a while, and then irrelevant again. The Pats, the Ravens, the Steelers, relevant teams, year in and year out.

That has helped the Pats since Brady took over(they weren't much of a model franchise before then). The Steelers had sub 500/ average years under Cowher, but getting Big Ben has put them at the top. The Saints are 0-4 right now, so I'm not sure they'll be able to dig themselves out this year(they look like they need a defensive overhaul). I think because we're playing poorly now, people are getting too carried away. There is still a lot of talent here........ young talent. A total overhaul is not necessary. A stable qb situation, a #1 rb, and an infusion of youth at lb will improve the fortunes of this team greatly IMO. With 3 losing seasons out of the last 15, I don't think it's fair to compare us to a bottom feeding franchise from another sport.

It's just hard to disagree with any of that...I got chewed out last year for questioning Tanny and Rex...but they just did a poor job of running the club. (LIJETFAN post)

The Ravens were the Cleveland Browns...enough said. Sorry, but I don't buy this argument. You make it sound like these franchises are perpetually at the top. In recent history, yes. But if your football memory goes beyond, say, 2001, these franchises have all had tremendously dark periods. As for the "model" franchise in sports, imagine...JUST IMAGINE...if the Jets outspent EVERY other team by 50%, and had one title in more than a decade. The same posters who pound their chests about being Yankees fans would be complaining about how the Jets can't even win titles when they drastically outspend every other team year in and year out.

Re: The Jets will be fine!!!!!!!!
If we just stick to football (baseball is unfair because of no salary cap) the teams that have a long tenure at the top typically do it with either the skill or luck of picking a great QB (Brady, Manning, etc) or just picking a number of great players that fit their team (Lewis, Reed, Suggs). Right now the Jets are a victim of not having done either of them very well (Sanchez has not worked out and/or not one impact player drafted since 07). It's really that simple.

I have a feeling the Jets will be fine too. Instead of studying film, Rex has the team playing with one of those vibrating electric football games.

Re: The Jets will be fine!!!!!!!!
Yes, the Jets will be fine. Instead of a sleep specialist, coach Ryan this week brought in a hypnotist. When he snapped his fingers he told Sanchez to play like Aaron Rodgers, Kerley like Wes Welker, Shilens like Calvin Johnson, Greene he just told to go the f ck home.

The Mets have had one of the highest payrolls in baseball every year and they continue to suck, so it's not all about outspending. The Mets are even worse than the Jets. And the Jets are pretty bad as franchises go, but the Mets may be one of the worst franchises in the history of sports. The LA Clippers of baseball.

Even comparing the Mets overspending to the Yankees overspending is just ludicrous. Sorry, but it is. The Mets are awful, you won't get any disagreement from any Mets fan on that. But acting like the Yankees get the most for their money is just typical Yankee optimism. Any other franchise's fan base would be livid that they so drastically outspend everyone every year, and have one title in a decade to show for it.
