Re: 2012 NYJ OFFENSIVE LINE..
The offseason is a good time for talk and confidence building. On the other hand, the first game were Hunter gives up a sack or 2, or Sanchez gets hurt bc of him, none of this mean a damn thing. --------------------------------------------- --- NickSINYC wrote: DeGuglielmo on Hunter: "Until they ship him out of this building or until they shoot me dead in my office, (he's) going to be starting RT"
DeGuglielmo on Wayne Hunter: "This guy has skills. If you find one out there better than that at that position, bring him to me." # nyj
New Jets o-line coach Dave DeGuglielmo on Vlad Ducasse: "This is not a bust." # nyj
Maybe this explains why we did not draft a RT
More Dave DeGuglielmo on Wayne Hunter: "This is his year. He’s poised to be the man that he believes he can be & I believe he can be" # nyj

Re: 2012 NYJ OFFENSIVE LINE..
The entire offense was out of sync last season for whatever reason. Hunter played very well at the end of 2010 and in the playoffs when the stakes were at their highest. Maybe Sparano/Deguglielmo feel he can return to that level of play. He definitely needs to be more consistent and eliminate the peaks/valleys. Can he do it over a 16 game season? They believe so and I hope so.

Willis was with the Dolphins for a while, so they must think he has some potential to sign him.

Re: 2012 NYJ OFFENSIVE LINE..
Stephon Heyer has 35 career starts. Ray Willis has 26. Tony Sparano signed Willis last season in Miami camp (cut him after 1 month). # nyj Ray Willis started all 16 games for Seahawks in 2009. He missed 2010 due to knee injury. Bounced around with Miami + New Orleans last yr

Re: 2012 NYJ OFFENSIVE LINE..
It's probably fair to say tackle Stephon Heyer & Ray Willis, who's played both RG & RT, will push Wayne Hunter at RT for Jets. # nyj

Jets to sign free-agent tackles Stephon Heyer, Ray WillisPublished: Tuesday, May 29, 2012, 12:46 PM Updated: Tuesday, May 29, 2012, 12:50 PM John Munson/The Star-LedgerTony Sparano is getting some additional veteran depth on his offensive line. The Jets had not addressed their tackle position so far this offseason, but they will sign two veteran free agents today, Stephon Heyer and Ray Willis, a person with knowledge of the impending signings confirmed. That person requested anonymity because the Jets have not announced the moves. Heyer and Willis have 61 NFL starts between the two of them, adding veteran experience to a Jets offensive line that lacked depth last season. Sports Business Journal first reported the impending signings. Heyer is a six-year veteran who originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Redskins. He started all 16 games for the Redskins at right tackle in 2009. After four seasons in Washington, he spent last season with Oakland, starting two games. Willis is a seventh-year pro who was a fourth-round pick by the Seahawks in 2005. He started 26 games for Seattle from 2008-09 at right guard and right tackle. He missed the 2010 season with a knee injury, and then spent the 2011 training camp with the Dolphins and Tony Sparano before joining the Saints midseason. Wayne Hunter is the Jets' incumbent starting right tackle, though he joked that his spot on the team is "as clear as mud." General manager Mike Tannenbaum said earlier this offseason that Hunter is "competing for a position here," but offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo was much stronger in his support of Hunter. DeGuglielmo said earlier this month that Hunter is the Jets' starting right tackle "until they ship him out of this building or until they shoot me dead in my office." Vlad Ducasse, the Jets' 2010 second-round pick, is behind Hunter.

Re: 2012 NYJ OFFENSIVE LINE..
I'd prefer they were all behind Marcus McNeill, but so be it. I'm pleased to see the position addressed to some degree.

I'm from Missouri - SHOW ME. EVERY WEEK. ALL SEASON. Then we'll talk.
....and if Ducasse is picking up the new offense as fast as Mangold, it must be a VERY,VERY, much simplified offensive scheme.

Re: 2012 NYJ OFFENSIVE LINE..
Personally I think Heyer is the more solid of the two. Wouldn't be shocked if Heyer is the starting RT and Willis pushes Slausson at Guard. Solid signings

Re: 2012 NYJ OFFENSIVE LINE..
Not for nothing, it's about friggin' time. We addressed every position on this team including the Guard position{drafting Robert T. Griffen} as we know Brandon Moore is aging and Matt Slauson is coming off a big time surgery. The right tackle position needed to heat up with actual athletes that have been through the fire of an actual game. Players that practice their asses off trying to up their game at the Tackle position. No experiments, not shifting linemen over to that side. Just a pure right tackle. Increase the temperature under Hunter's ass. Hell, Players from last year that have been placed under immense scrutiny that have performed under par should be held accountable to start looking over their respective shoulders. Hunter IMHF'O should be NUMBER ONE ON THAT LIST. I hope as training camp draws nigh, that McNeil's asking price drops a bit. I would love to see Tanny utilize his luring skills to sign this guy. All in all though, i really like the Stephon Heyer signing. If he finds himself finally taking this position to a new level, he can be a corner stone at Right tackle for years. Only 28 y/o 6'6" 330lb.s. Features resemble Woody's. Hopefully he plays like him. { http://www.nfl.com/player/step...2495628/profile}

Re: 2012 NYJ OFFENSIVE LINE..
Teams are concerned with Mcneill's neck injury and history. I've read we're the Eagles have shown some interest after the Peters injury. He is also looking to play LT.

I thought that McNeil's issue was with a narrowing of the spine. I'm no doctor, but I believe the problem is in the lower back.

Re: 2012 NYJ OFFENSIVE LINE..
We might have a shot after all. i had a bad feeling we werent going to do anything with the oline, and eventhough this isnt a major move with these signings it does show attention to the most glaring weak spot on the team. I think sparano must have told tanny to get his head out of his ass and get some help for the line.
I think we got lucky to get sparano and would go as far as saying he would be better at hc with rex at dc.
