RE: Jets shopping Hunter

RE: Jets shopping Hunter

I realize that Hunter was the weak link last season, but the entire unit was subpar. He or Vlad could be quite acceptable under a coach like Sparano whose focus is on running game and max protect schemes. I'm all for getting better, but I want to see how some of these guys perform under different guidance.

optimally we trade players at the top of the market (i.e. hunter in 2010) not at the bottom (hunter now).
still baffled about the vilma trade off of a major injury.

same with free agents, guys like curtis martin and mawae coming into their peak rather than favre and manning at the end of their lines but still getting paid like in their prime.
Hunter was a free agent after 2010. We couldn't trade him. It was either sign him or let him walk. Woody's injury dictated the signing.

cysporsche wrote: I agree with Sarge, we would be making a mistake in trading Wayne Hunter for the following reasons:

1) Under a new OL coach & Sparano, this could be the year the light bulb comes on ?
2) He's not that expensive for a NFL RT ?
3) He's the meanest nastiest player on the Jets.
4) Are we kidding ourselves to think that Ducasse is ready to replace him ?
5) He knows the system and whats expected of him.
6) He was the guy in the huddle that was going to kick Holmes ass for not playing like a Jet.
7) He's only 30 years old.
8) We would get nothing for him in return.

He almost got Mark Sanchez killed a billion times this year as well.  Good for Tanny, Send this guy packing and spend that cash on an actual RT that will protect his QB and be a road grader for Shonn Greene.

If Hunter was so bad why was Mulligan on DBricks side most of his snaps? I'm ok with whoever ends up at RT because I see the OL as a unit, and one that I think will bounce back huge.

that one is too easy,
Look who our O.C was..that idiot had no clue what "in-game" adjustments were all about.

by next week, i feel Vernon Carey will be a Jet.  Considering he just sold his house to the Rock.

I think Jarrett Johnson will be right behind him.

Re: Jets shopping Hunter

Hate to say it guy's, but if Jarrett Johnson LB and Vernon Carey RG / RT are our big splash in free agency, I will be very bummed out. With free agents, they must be upgrades over what we currently have and Johnson had 2.5 sacks and is the worst Raven LB, and Vernon Carey was so bad @ RT two years ago in Miami that they signed Marc Columbo RT who was the worst RT in football and moved Carey to RG ?banghead

Well, we don't have that much cap room to play with {didn't see the New cap relief with Sanchez new contract extension}, but this team really isn't that far off from making a big turn around.
IMO, the Jets biggest splash came three weeks after the season with B.S leaving.  That within itself wasn't only a splash but a cannon ball.
Though i gotta be truly honest, i feel the Jets in some way, are all in on Mario Williams.  The Jets have been oftly quiet on their end.  This move {if made} would counter Miami's Manning Signing next week.

Re: Jets shopping Hunter

If Williams decides to move on from Texas I think he will be looking to go back to DE in a 4-3. He didn't like the move to 34 OLB to begin with and then he gets injured. Tampa has plenty of money to offer Williams his LE spot back. I see Williams as a long shot.

Mario Williams is looking for a contract like Julius Peppers got from the Bears. I heard the Chargers want him. The Bucs and Redskins have most most cap money to spend. We don't ! noidea

Leave it up to a cap'ologist genius like Mike T and Mario might very well be dawning Jets green in '12

Re: Jets shopping Hunter

I would love to see Mario Williams in green next season.  That said, I would be satisfied with signing several tier 2 players to fill specific needs; Jarrett Johnson (would enormously help rushing defense), WR and OL and whatever safety is available.  That way, we can draft the best player available and not have to reach.

That would leave us to draft OLB, ILB and another S to solidify the defense.

So NY Daily News says Jets have tried to trade Wayne Hunter. For what? Two slices of pizza?"

Donnie Avery? He had a big season with the Rams a couple of years ago, then got injured. I think he played for the Titans last season, but with the lockout, didn't have much time to learn the offense. He's fast from what I remember.
