Our Sanchize Quarterback
I'm still stressed about the loss, but after a long cooling off period one thing makes me feel good: We have a franchise quarterback. Mark Sanchez is 22, and with only one year starting in college he's stepped in and become our guy. Closed in on 300 yards passing today with 2 TDs and rushing TD. I feel so much better watching him roll out, hold the ball in the air and walk into the endzone for a score, 100 times more than watching any Jet quarterback score a TD in so long. And that is inspiring. Sure, the guy has a lot of learning to do, but think of all the time to do it, and the sky is the limit! He gets it. He has the attitude and the work ethic to lead this team for a decade. The QB carousel is over and sometimes as fans I think we forget about things like that, things that bothered us for years as we just WISHED WE could have our own franchise QB. For instance, we were debating about BRETT RATLIFF VS. KELLEN CLEMENS after Favre was gone! I mean talk about being at a low point. But one great draft day changed our fate. We've seen a lot of QBs in this league be good, solid leaders for their team for years as guys come in and out of their backfield, OL and at WR. I feel that we will enjoy the same thing, as well.

Re: Our Sanchize Quarterback
I saw & felt the same things you did. When I shut the TV off, I was pissed, but then I started thinking. We just threw for about 300yrds, run for 0ver 100, and our offense outscored their's. They couldn't run, nor pass. We beat ourselves. That can be corrected. However, the stuff you wrote about Sanchez is a straight up bull's eye. The kid knows the job is his, plays like it's his, experiments knowing it's his, but the thing that makes me know he's gonna be special, is you can see that he has already learned from mistakes.

Re: Our Sanchize Quarterback
Have to agree wit you guys here. For someone who has only played in college for one year and 8 games in the NFL he is doing great.Yes he has some learning to do,but what QB comes into this league and gets it all right his first shot?He is learning and do a good job at picking it up.Also don't forget the fact that once he got comfortable with his WRs they were injured and he was playing with guys he wasn't that formiliar with.Edwards was learning the system. He lost Leon, but now that he had his full compliment of WRs back he did a good job. I won't say great because he still left a lot of plays on the field that should have been completed, but that is part of the learning process.Once everything falls into place and we add a few players threw FA or the draft next year we will be a team to contend with.

RE: Our Sanchize Quarterback
Yes I too agree, However and not to cross threads but Mark Sanchez is not being given enough plays that are best geared to our offenses strengths... Mark would be having a better rookie season if Schotty knew how to win ballgames on playcalling in all 4 quarters...

Yeah, there's a lot of positives after this loss and in general I feel good about where this team is heading. The one thing I'd like to see Sanchez fix though is for him to learn to step up in the pocket when he senses pressure from the outside instead of bailing out and falling back.

RE: Our Sanchize Quarterback
all I ask is for some screens to the RB...that woulda came in handy and woulda played into the strengths of Washington when he was healthy. Sanchize is doing his best and all we want to see is greatness and the ability to overcome adversity when it comes. He's done that.

I felt like he was a little better with this early in the year when he was dancing around in the pocket, avoiding tacklers and keeping his eyes downfield. However, that was before he took some real NFL shots... maybe he's just building confidence. Nothing a QB coach can't work with.

EXACTLY........Miami did not beat the Jets yesterday - The Jets beat the Jets. Think about it this way folks......the Jets spotted the Miami Dolphins 21 points, 21, and the Miami Dolphins won that game by how many ?........5, that's how many.....AND....that was in spite of a number of poorly timed, and potentially leathel, brain farts committed by the HC, OC, QB, and special teams ! Even at that, were it not for some highly questionable play calling on the last set of downs, they may well have won. The Jets, save 2 kick return brain farts, clearly outplayed Miami on both sides of the ball yesterday. If this team ever figures out how to get all three phases of the game to come together at the same time....they will be one of the toughest teams to beat in the NFL.

Atmorrisjr, I'll give a big fat +1. If we can make it to the tournament, we are going to be the 2,000 lb Gorilla everybody wants to ignore, but won't be able to. I can't think of a better time for the bye to get the whole team on the same page.

Congratulations to Mark Sanchez who has already managed to lose to the Dolphins more times than Pennington did in his entire time in NY. I'm not hating, I just thought it was funny...

Don't get me wrong here fellas, not that I mean to be a nay sayer, but they haven't figured this out in the last 10 or 20 years, so I'm not too sure how fast they are going to figure it out..........

Re: Our Sanchize Quarterback
I'm just glad Sanchez is getting the time this year to get over his growing pains, and gain that NFL experience. This is exactly why I wanted him to be the opening day starter. We all knew he'd have growing pains. But the future for this franchise is brighter than the present. Because of that, this season is the perfect time for him to get through those growing pains. After all, would we want to toss him out there, in a year where expectations are higher, with him having less experiences? What would happen if his growing pains derailed a legitimate title shot? The Jets can still be a good football team this year, but this season is all about learning and growth. The reward is still 1-3 years away.

Re: Our Sanchize Quarterback
I was one of the guys who said he would be better off sitting a year and allowing Clemens to keep the seat warm. After watching how he has responded in the last 2 weeks to the awful 5 int game, I gotta admit Ryan was right in letting the kid take his lumps. He is showing a real toughness that you wouldn't necessarily associate with a 'California kid' (awful bias on my part), and a tremendous skill set that with experience will only get better. I am very excited about the future of the Jets with Sanchez.

RE: Our Sanchize Quarterback
the kid has to lose that backpedal thingy..........it creates problems for himself. He needs to learn the benefit of moving forward and that movement causing defenders to make choices to come off receviers and get him or hang back and cover. Backpedaling left the secondary with the simple choice to cover up the receivers.
he neeed to escape containment and then scramble to the right side and give himself AND receivers some options. Backpedaling left the ball in the air too long.

Yea, but you can only get to the playoffs and then lose first round so many times before people figure out that you probably aren't the answer.

RE: Our Sanchize Quarterback
Before the season started, I was on the boat of starting Clemens over Sanchize only so he could learn a little before going out to the wolves. But at the same time I agree with Sack, "I'm just glad Sanchez is getting the time this year to get over his growing pains, and gain that NFL experience."
Saying that, I think Shotty's asking too much from the rookie QB, asking him to throw the ball 35 times and put the game on his shoulders to win is just too much for the him. After the pass in the back of the endzone at the end of the game, they showed Sanchise standing next to Edwards and he looked like he was going to break down and cry.
I hope Shotty does not ruin our QB and I can not wait for him to get the hell out of here, the sooner the better.

Just got out of character there. I hate it when we lose a game or things are going bad and some fans want to use that opportunity to throw Pennington's name into things. Sanchez is here to help us do what Pennington couldn't: get a title, or at least be a (deep) playoff contender. He's having a rough stretch right now and the thread (I'm assuming) was started to draw some positive posts on him. Had nothing to do with Pennington. That guy wants to point out how Sanchez lost twice to Miami? How about the fact that at this point in time he never lost to the Pats and his W-L record was a win short of matching Ryan and Flacco's in their first 8 games instead? It's all good. I pulled the post all together.
