Pre-Season Game Thread - Giants @ Jets - Fri., Aug 22 (7:30pm)

Pre-Season Game Thread - Giants @ Jets - Fri., Aug 22 (7:30pm)

time for the annual Snoopy Bowl.  ok, that is meaningless, but the game itself isn't.  3rd pre-season game is usually the last playing time for most of the starters.  want to see some more sustained drives by the offense and the 1st team defense to respond to last week's poor showing.  giants 1st team offense has been awful thus far, and if eli puts up numbers similar to dalton, i may begin to get a little worried about the pass defense (even if it is only the pre-season).

as always, most importantly, no injuries

Re: Pre-Season Game Thread - Giants @ Jets - Fri., Aug 22 (7:30p

Cornerback and linebacker seem to be the units where the most fierce roster battles are happening right now. I'll focus my attention there. At ILB Belore, Edds, and George are fighting for 1 spot. At OLB Enemkpali, Reilly, McIntyre, maybe King, are fighting for 1 or 2 spots

In the secondary, if we keep 10, it might look like this

Safe (4)
Milliner CB
Landry S
Pryor S
Allen S/CB

Probably Safe (4)
Wilson CB
Patterson CB
Lankster CB
Walls CB (left him off 1st list)

Bubble (7) - we might only keep 2 or maybe 3 of these 7
Jarrett S
Bush S
Miles S
Patrick CB
Reeves CB
Dowling CB
Dixon CB
ROLL TIDE!

I think our list is close:

  1. No injuries
  2. Geno's continues to be in charge of the offense
  3. Amaro continues to develop into a reliable target
  4. Pryor moves into starting line-up based on his play (even if in certain packages)
  5. Salas continues to push for playing time
  6. CBs - anything, hoping for a good showing from the puppies Reeves, Dixon, and Lankster.
  7. Still love big #99 and watch for him every play he is in
  8. Coples and Babin provide a pass rush

I'd like a pick 6 vs Manning.  If Eli plays like Dalton and Luck did, we're in trouble...

Re: Pre-Season Game Thread - Giants @ Jets - Fri., Aug 22

- Need to see Geno continue to play consistent but take more charge if possible.  Throw and complete alittle bit more down the field and throw a TD or 2.  Doesn't matter to which receiver.  People seem to still debate as to whether Geno still deserves the job.  I would like to see him end that debate this game.
- Need to see something positive from Hill, PLEASE!!!!
- Salas needs to stay consistent
- Amaro and Sudfield needs a big play or two.  That would be nice.
- Cornerbacks need to step up.  Any CB but especially Allen.  Hoping he shows he can play that # 2 spot.  Need Wilson to recover from getting thrashed all last week also. Patterson needs to show the same from week # 1.
- No worries about the running game and O-line.  Think were good there.
- No worries with our D-line but would like to see Coples show something this game.
- No worries about Pryor.  Hopefully he doesn't get another concussion knocking someone out the game!!!
- Which reminds me, no injuries period please and guess that's about it.

Your right, I did forget Walls didn't I. I believe Walls will be our slot corner and that will move Wilson and Patterson down the ranks. Hoping Allen plays well enough to take over the # 2 spot and plays well the rest of the year ofcourse.

I can't see Rex moving Kyle Wilson out of the slot coverage with our current roster ?

Rex on Andre Williams' comment that Giants are NY's football team: "Last time I saw him, he was getting smoked by Clemson"

Good catch! He has to be "Probably Safe" so that makes the competition even tougher

It would have been better if he said, "Last time I saw him, he was getting smoked by Clemson; and next time I see him, he'll be getting smoked by the Jets."

Just remember, only the Jets talk trash. The classy Giants would never lower themselves to trash talking.

He's a rookie too. Our beat writers would be all over this. It's good to see though that the Giants follow the lead of their HC........... talk is cheap rolleyes. Then again, the gm and owner don't seem to follow Coughlin's mantra either noidea.

I guess there is more time for talk when you practice only once in a while under this new CBA. 90 players, few practices, few reps for starters yet they will all be up to speed by Sept. Yeah right.

Re: Pre-Season Game Thread - Giants @ Jets - Fri., Aug 22 (7:30p

This game is very important for 3 groups and several individuals, so enough with the trash talk nonsense. I'm not being critical of posters here, just the media's preoccupation with stupid story lines and Rex's inability to rise above some rookie's BS. As far as the groups go, CBs, OLBs and WRs are pretty obvious choices with continued strong play and growth from Geno, LS, DDavis and Amaro. Wonder also if Rex shows his cards a little and turns the 1st team defense loose. If so, I would love to see some damage done by both Babin and Coples, not to mention Sheldon and Mo. With the groups, I'm going to be paying close attention to: Hill, Salas and Enunwa at WR, IK, Reilly and Edds at LB, and Walls, Lewis, Ellis and Dixon at CB. Guys like IK, Reilly, Dixon, Miles and Enunwa are going to have to make it based on teams play, and all seem to have been playing well there. Honorable mention for me will be bottom of the roster OL guys like Ijilana (SP?), Dozier, Oday and Freeman; Sudfeld at TE.

We also have to look for Saleem Hakim after he was called out for good things by the new special teams coach

Look, I like and root for BC, but it's pretty clear Williams has no idea that Rex was watching the game because his son plays for Clemson.

Pierre-Paul, too.

If this was the Jets running at the mouth, it would be the end of the world.

Re: Pre-Season Game Thread - Giants @ Jets - Fri., Aug 22

Conan the Barbarian summarized how I feel about the game.
I want the Jets:
""To crush your enemies -- See them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women!"
To that I'd add,"... and their whining fans and toady press corps"/

Later
"You spend a good part of your life gripping the baseball, and in the end it turns out it was the other way around all the time." Jim Bouton
