Denver CB Tony Carter

Posted: 8/17/2014 6:03 PM

Denver CB Tony Carter

He's on the bubble due to Denver being stacked at the position. He is definitely going to be available and soon. Jet's can't be too finicky considering how desperate the situation. Thoughts?

Re: Denver CB Tony Carter

I know nothing about Tony Carter; however, I feel we have enough horses in the barn already:

Brandon Dixon 6'/203
Ras-I Dowling 6'1"/210
Ellis Lankster 5'9"/190
Dee Milliner 6'/201
Johnny Patrick 5'11"/190
Darrin Walls 6'/190
Kyle Wilson 5'10"/190
Jeremy Reeves 5'7"/176
Antonio Allen 6'1"/210

Go Jets....Cyborg

Re: Denver CB Tony Carter

Problems with the horses in our current stable is all of them except Milliner are suspect or garbage period. Allen has the excuse because he's converting from safety but what's the rest of their excuses? Mcdougle getting hurt obviously really hurts us. Jets need to look for additional help because it doesn't appear our horses will get it done.

Re: Denver CB Tony Carter

Dowling left the game with a groin injury I read.  I'm not so sure he's a roster lock since he can't stay healthy.

There is no Secretariat in this barn, Cy. Idzik, has an obligation after the McDougle injury to at least scour the waiver wire and bring guys here to compete for a CB spot. There is a good chance that someone's final CB cut may be better than what we have in camp already.

Do you think an NFL starting caliber CB is about to be cut?  Could you name 3-4 starting caliber CBs on roster bubbles?

Immediate starter cut after last preseason game, probably not. Even on this Jets team. But, a better #4 or #5 CB? Absolutley. Or maybe trading for a more expensive veteran, who could start. I remember when Dolphins were on Hard Knocks, they traded a former first or second round CB to Colts in training camp. Maybe Vontae Davis? These deals happen. I am not saying Jets add any outside CB help, but Idzik should be pouring over waiver wire, since we are very, very thin there.

Just making sure expectations were appropriately set. Now I promise a guy who plays CB better than Antonio Allen or Joe McKnight will be cut, you can be sure of that.

Ralph, I'm a 100% sure that Idzik is looking under every rock out there 24/7, but like 55 said above, the cream of the crop CB's are going to be on some teams 53. Our best bet is to play the horses we have during the final 2 games of pre-season, and hope a player on our team climbs to the top, or maybe a team will try to hide a good player on their practice squad, but I seriously doubt it.noidea

I'm with you, Cy.  We may have some young guys here we groom and play early and take our lumps and hope they evolve as professionals and grow over time.  What if Reeves, Patrick, Dixon, or Lankster continue to show well?  Those guy likely the guys teams are looking at as bottom of the roster practice squad steals depending on special teams.  I think Reeves has some potential.  I think if he was cut he could be stole.  He can play teams and maybe you put him in some packages.  Do we go some 3 safety sets so Miles grabs a slot.  I'd rather keep Miles than steal someone else's DB cut.  I do like Miles and Reeves at roster bubble keeps.

We need to put Allen back with Pryor at safety and get that youth and speed on the back end.  It doesn't matter if it's someone else's kids or our kids, they're going to take their lumps as the units gell.  I'd just stick with the guys who have been grinding through the play books all offseason if the upside is about the same.

Closing this one too. There's already a thread for possible cb aquisitions.
