Re: Our 53 man roster as of right now

Is Barnes OLB on your 53 or on the bubble, you have him in both places ?

I think Nelson is our # 2 WR and Salas on the fence.

I'm not sure about McIntyre OLB over Barnes, simply because Ellis will bolt in FA this off season, and we'll need this huge guy replacing him.

Now sure what Dowling's CB status health wise, but this guy is a stud CB when healthy.

Can we not find a better punter than Quigley ?

Go Jets...Cyborg

Re: Our 53 man roster as of right now

McIntyre showed up in the scrimmage with a sack and has had a good camp. He should be one of the LB's. I pretty much agree with list except Nelson is a sure top 6, and has been getting 1st team reps...something Salas and Saunders aren't getting. Dowling may stay healthy but won't make the cut because of numbers and his own injury history. Barnes has to be healthy to make the team...Coples/Pace/Babin/McIntyre are the top 4 OLB's right now.

Dowling hasn't been healthy or played enough to be called a stud. What are you looking at? His college tape of 5 years ago? The guys name hasn't been mentioned since the OTA's.

The only time I saw MCintyre was when Vick was blowing past him in a 20 yard run, the sack you are refering to was a mistake on McIntyre's part,  in that tackling the QB is not allowed in scrimmages.

ST Coach Mc Gaughey singled LB Troy Davis as being one of the key guys on Specials. Not sure if it's enough to make the final roster but I think he'll make the practice squad again. He quietly played great on specials when he was brought up last year at the end of the season.

There were some folks here high on Chad Young possibly replacing Bohanon. Haven't heard a peep about him.

I think depending on how possible bubble guys like tj Barnes / Hyder/ dowling/ Daryl Richardson/miles/ Jacoby ford/ McIntyre perform we may see 0 fullbacks carried and instead one of the bubble guys at a diff position (possibly a guy mentioned above) on the final 53 instead.

Re: Our 53 man roster as of right now

I know it's early, but I am not feeling good about the offense in general so far. This QB mess is gonna be a problem.

IMO, the most important addition via the draft that NEEDS to perform is Calvin Pryor. That secondary is patchwork at best and they will need that enforcer presence to ward off free roamers. If he doesn't contribute right away, the front 7 will have an inordinate amount of pressure to cover the back 7.

Still not sold on McIntyre or Bellore on our opening season roster,  they were just adequate bodies last lear so this would symbolize no improvement at this position.... I would take  this years draft picks ...George and Reilly over both of them...

Re: Our 53 man roster as of right now

McIntyre right now would be the #4 OLB behind Coples/Pace/Babin? What are you looking for in a 4th OLB? McIntyre also had two stops on the goal line in the scrimmage, a run stuff and a sack. Bellore is a ST's ace, and the best LB on the roster at it, every ST units needs LB's to cover and tackle.

Is George and Reilly an upgrade? Or just different JAGS. Either way they will have to beat out McIntyre, wich they aren't doing right now.

This was pretty much my logic.  Quite frankly, I don't know much about George…haven't heard much about him over the past few weeks either through the media or from Rex directly. If he has more potential and is as good as Bellore is right now on ST, then I would be all for that switch.

As far as McIntyre, I just think he knows the system and has drawn a lot of praise in camp (primarily playing with the "twos").  Reilly is an older rookie who would likely end up on the practice squad, even though he has done fairly well in camp.

Basically, I just think both McIntyre and Bellore are better suited to help our team win now.

Nice article on McIntyre. If the two starters and Babin can stay healthy, McIntyre is a solid 4th guy with 43 games in this defense. That's trust.

Re: Our 53 man roster as of right now

Agree some places. other places not so much. I am also going off of what Rex has been saying on who he likes.

QB (3) Agree
Smith, Vick, Simms

RB (3) Disagree
Ivory, Johnson, Powell

Not enough space for Daryl. These 3 running backs are all going to get work and make a great combination. Daryl could go to Psquad.

FB (1) Agree
Bohanon

TE (3) Agree
Cumberland, Amaro, Sudfeld

WR. (7) Disagree
Decker, Kerley, Hill, Nelson, Ford, Saunders, Evans

Nelson is definitely making this roster as a huge part of the offense last year. Evans is a 4th round pick...as much as I like salas...there's no room for him. Ford is a much needed and electrifying return man and has world class speed.

OL (9) Mostly Agree
Ferguson, Winters, Mangold, Colon, Giacomini, Aboushi, Dozier, Ijalana, Freeman

I think they could replace Freeman and Ijalana with Schlauderaff or Will Campbell

DL (5) Agree
Wilkerson, Richardson, Harrison, Ellis, Douzable

LB (8) Disagree
Harris, Davis, Coples, Pace, Nick Bellore,  Babin, George, McIntyre

Rex has already stated how much he likes having Bellore and has named him one of the best/if not best Special teams players on the roster. I strongly believe Antwan Barnes will go on PUP or Short term IR (or simply be cut)

CB (6) Agree
Milliner, Patterson, Wilson, McDougle, Walls, Lankster

S (5) Disagree
Landry, Pryor, Allen, Jarret, Miles

Jaquainn Jarret is a favorite of Rex's. Rex speaks more highly of Jarret this camp than even Miles. Every time someone mentions Miles, Rex is quick to praise Jarret.Says Jarret having one of best camps for safety and is hardest worker. With possible 3 safety looks...Jets could keep 5 safeties.

P (1)
Quigley

PK (1)
Folk

LS (1)
Purdham

Practice Squad: (10)

Jeremy Reeves
Trevor Reilly
Brandon Dixon
Greg Salas
Ik Enemkpali
Chris Pantale
Tahj Boyd
Kerry Hyder
TJ Barnes
Dalton Freeman

Salas, Barnes and Freeman will all be on our Final 53 List ..... and/or will be claimed by other teams if we cut them to later place them on our Practice Squad

Anybody we cut from the D, with the possible exception of rookies and injuries, will get picked up by another team for their ability and the fact they came from Rex IMO.

Re: Our 53 man roster as of right now

One thing you have to admire is McIntyre has made himself a nice little NFL career. Every offseason I think we're going to upgrade OLB and every year the guy finds a place on the roster. We keep adding guys like Jason Taylor, Aaron Maybin, Coples, Barnes, and now Babin and whatever we do, he sticks. He a classic lunch box player that puts his head down and comes to work and has carved a niche out on the roster. I won't bet against him making the team again.

He contributes so much on specials. It's exactly what a guy like him needs to do to make himself indispensable on a team like this.
