Fights for the last 10 roster spots

These are 10 man to man straight up fights at the bottom of the roster that will play out in preseason

QB Matt Smms vs QB Tajh Boyd
Predicted Winner: Simms with Boyd to the practice squad

WR Shaq Evans vs WR Greg Salas
I just don't think we can keep 7 WRs
Predicted Winner: Evans

RB Daryl Richardson vs FB Tommy Bohanon
Do we even need a fullback? Could Sudfeld play fullback? Can we keep 4 running backs and 1 fullback? If Richardson shows out, who knows?
Predicted Winner:: Richardson

OL William Campbell vs OL Ben Ijalana
The 5 starters, Aboushi, and Dozier are safe, one of these guys has to go
Predicted Winner: Campbell

OL Caleb Schladeraff vs OL Dalton Freeman
We need a back up center
Predicted Winner: Freeman in a squeaker

LB Jeremiah George vs LB Nick Bellore
Backup ILB
Predicted Winner: George's potential beats Bellore's good ST play

LB IK Ememkpali vs LB Jeremiah Cunningham
Can we keep 5 OLBs? Barnes, Pace, Coples, Babin, and one of tese guys? Yes
Predicted Winner: Cunningham

LB Trevor Reilly vs LB Troy Davis vs DL Kerry Hyder vs DL TJ Barnes
A 6th DL vs a 9th LB? These 4 guys, and maybe McIntyre are all fighting for tat last spot in the front 7
Predicted Winner: Tough, tough call........I'll say Reilly

CB Ellis Lankster vs CB Ras-I Dowling vs CB Jeremy Reeves vs CB Brandon Dixon
Milliner, Patterson, Wison, Walls, McDougle, and.........
Predicted Winner: Yikes............Dowling with Dixon and Reeves on PS

S Josh Bush vs S Jaquan Jarrett vs S Rontez Miles
Allen, Landry, Pryor, and........
Predicted Winner: Bush
ROLL TIDE!

Re: Fights for the last 10 roster spots

Great post!  Here are mine:

QB Matt Smms vs QB Tajh Boyd
Predicted Winner: Neither.  Simms cut with Boyd to the practice squad

WR Shaq Evans vs WR Greg Salas
I think we can keep 7 WRs
Predicted Winner: Evans and Salas

RB Daryl Richardson vs FB Tommy Bohanon
Predicted Winner:: Richardson and TBo (with Green and other RBs out, DRich takes Green's spot from last year)

OL William Campbell vs OL Ben Ijalana
Predicted Winner:  Neither because of my next pick

OL Caleb Schladeraff vs OL Dalton Freeman
Predicted Winner: Both and Capbell and Ijana cut.

LB Jeremiah George vs LB Nick Bellore
Predicted Winner: George

LB IK Ememkpali vs LB Jeremiah Cunningham
Predicted Winner: Cunningham due to long term potential

LB Trevor Reilly vs LB Troy Davis vs DL Kerry Hyder vs DL TJ Barnes
Predicted Winner: Hyder and Barnes...the guy who may be in trouble - Ellis.  Barnes looks like a long term replacement for him and Douzable and Hyder would be amazing backups to Sheldon and Wilkerson.

CB Ellis Lankster vs CB Ras-I Dowling vs CB Jeremy Reeves vs CB Brandon Dixon
Predicted Winner: Lankster dropped two picks yesterday but is rumored to be having a good camp.  I agree Reeves makes the PS because he has been amazing and may replace Lankster next year.  Dowling is reportedly hurt again (nicked up).  I'll pick Lankster.

S Josh Bush vs S Jaquan Jarrett vs S Rontez Miles
Predicted Winner: This one sucks.  They have all shined, but I think Jarrett and Miles both are young and making plays all over the place.  I'm not sure Jarrett can be placed on the PS and I believe Miles can.  I predict Jarrett for one more year and Miles to the PS with the Jets hoping Miles replaces Landry long term.  May be the first call up if injury with great ST and long term potential.

I think Ijalana is the only backup OT (unless we move Colon to OT if one of the starters gets hurt).  so I would think he gets the nod over Campbell if the decision is between the 2 of them.

I struggled with Wr, CB and S.  Who you got?

no clue on  CB or S.

WR - I think unless he really stinks, Evans is safe given his draft position.  I think the battle is really between Salas and Ford, and give the edge to Salas (assuming others can take over the kick/punt return duties)

Re: Fights for the last 10 roster spots

Guys, Bellore and lankster are special team aces and are making this team. I also think josh bush is safe due to his special teams ability. T-bo is not a lock only due to Darrell young the other FB in camp who could take his place. We likely only keep 1 of them

Re: Fights for the last 10 roster spots

Just a thought, but why bother with a FB? I think we try and stash Young on PS and cut Bohanon outright. It just isn't that important of a position any more. The caveat is if there is enormous ST value and then we keep one. There are a couple of draftees that are good long term prospects, but just not ready yet and will be stashed on 53 man roster like Campbell and Oday last year. Could be Evans and Enunwa or Enunwa and IK depending on how they look in preseason. Also have a feeling that Reilly makes it as he is very versatile, mature and smart. Not as steep a learning curve as some of the others. Feel that GMac, Caleb and Cambpell from last years squad will be late cuts.

Actually, we have several players who played tackle in College. Ijalana, Winters, Aboushi & Dozier. I doubt Qvalve & Zusevics make the 53.

Go Jets...Cyborg

I know,  but there is a reason the team has moved all of them (except Ijalana) to guard.

personally, i wouldn't be surprised to see the jets sign a veteran tackle that gets cut elsewhere.

Re: Fights for the last 10 roster spots

Lankster is a lock for game action. If we are going with the better football player(s), I like all 5 safeties, with one less LB. Rex uses Allen in many nickel/dime packages as well. I like to hold onto Bush this season and I like Jarrett.

Re: Fights for the last 10 roster spots

I think we will see a number of veterans CUT or TRADED before we get to the Final 53 .... including ......  Ford, Bellore, Mcintyre, A. Barnes, Gates, Bush, Schladeraff, Pattersor or Wilson, and Simms

It will be intersting!!!

Re: Fights for the last 10 roster spots

I certaintly see Patterson, Wilson, Bellore one the final 53, with all 3 active on game day if healthy. Barnes if healthy will also be on the final roster, but if he is not healthy and another guy steps up, he could be in jeopardy. Even if Barnes makes the roster the Jets could keep another OLB, and I give McIntyre edge. Ford will be interesting, if he stays healthy and keep getting deep, one of the rookies spot could be in jeopardy, 4th round pick or not...plus Ford could change field position in the return game.

Re: Fights for the last 10 roster spots

Its going to be a pure numbers game...  Patterson & Wilson are both the same player in the Jets Scheme...cannot afford to carry boh,  Bellore is a special teams player only we need solld ILB Depth George & T Davis vie for that role,  Barnes and McIntyre were toast when Idzick and Ryan brought  back Pace and brought in Babin with T Reilly as his understudy.

I can't see the Jets cutting 7 or 8 of their 2014 draft class so a few borderline veterans can make the team... I am sure all of these vets have conditional contracts..

Re: Fights for the last 10 roster spots

Who is going to replace Patterson/Wilson in a numbers game? You think Rex would pick Dowling(9 games in 3 seasons) over one of the guys? Why? What have you seen in him? McDougle the 3rd round pick is already nursing an injury. Who else is there?

Bellore is a very good ST player and has seen more reps inside than both George and Davis combined, thats a itough climb for those guys, I'm not hearing/reading anything special from them. Is Reilly any good? He won't get a spot just because McIntyre isn't that good. For two season McIntyre has filled in outside and has earned trust.

Agreed. Unless a young CB on the roster dramatically steps up his game, I don't see how you cut either Patterson or Wilson. They are #2 and #3 behind Milliner in terms of talent right now. I don't think you can afford to be taking risks at that position right now. It's already an area of some uncertainty going into this season.

They are 2-3 on the depth chart as well, wich means they are in many 1st team sub packages. It's hard to take a guys spot when you're playing with the 2nd and 3rd team.

Referencing depth charts during camp and preseason is meaningless (see NY Jets Official site http://www.newyorkjets.com/team/depth-chart.html)   They at best a sports writer opinion.

I'm going to commit blastamy here by thinking one & maybe two Wake-Forest Demon Deacons might not make the 53 this year. We have Josh Bush @ SS and he was a CB in College and too soft to play SS. I think Jarrett or Miles beats Bush out @ safety ? Also, I'm afraid my boy Tommy Bohanon (T-Bo) is in trouble @ FB ? The Jets might not carry a FB this season ?

Re: Fights for the last 10 roster spots

What of the QB position? What's the guess on how many we keep? I'm not interested in Simms as the #3 and Boyd will be on the practice squad. Will the Jets be looking over the next couple of weeks for an upgrade?
