Re: Jets sign DE Jason Babin

Source confirms that the Jets have agreed to terms on a 2-year deal with DL Jason Babin (as @KimJonesSports said). #nyj

Jason Babin, 34, led the Jaguars with 7.5 sacks last year. With Eagles prior to that. Should provide depth and aid Jets pass rush. #nyj

I was just about to post this link confirming it.

Good veteran pass rush move.

This doesn't bode well for Barnes' recovery.

Not to be a bummer, but don't you think that if Babin @ 34 had anything left in the tank, that the Jags or some other team would have signed him before now ?noidea

Go Jets...Cyborg

Think he had 7.5 sacks last yr. Good signing for depth, and you know Rex can squeeze every last bit of juice from these guys.

Rex got something out of 50-year-olds Trevor Pryce/Jason Taylor & Aaron freakin Maybin... gonna be sweet to see what he'll do with Babin.

Re: Jets sign DE Jason Babin

Babin had his biggest success in the "Wide 9" in Tennessee and Philly. I would bet Rex will throw it in on 3rd downs.

Predicted here Barnes wouldn't make roster: http://turnonthejets.com/2014/07/toj-jets-roster-preview-edge-setters/  Didn't think it'd be result of this type of signing though

interesting signing.  can't hurt to take a look at him.  i'm sure rex can devise some ways to use him as a situational pass rusher

Rookie Free agent Zach Thompson seems like the most likely roster move unless Barnes gets a medical

Surprised he wasn't picked up sooner for a situational role elsewhere. Our benefit, though.

Your concern would have more merit if he was an every down player. But if he is used situationally, it's a different story. His tank will be much less empty if he is rotated in on third downs than if he was on the field every down.

And his 7.5 sacks last year would be a lot less if his tank was empty.

Re: Jets sign DE Jason Babin

Oh, and he started last year. So if he is only in a situational role with the Jets, he'll be asked to be on the field less than he was last year when he recorded 7.5 sacks.

Re: Jets sign DE Jason Babin

DB Lowell Rose was released to make room for Babin. Rose had no shot of making the team, so the overall competition level went up for everyone. Colon and Barnes, as expected, will start out on PUP

Anyone know if there are any red flag character issues with this guy?

I just hate to see a 34 year old re-tread take a roster spot of a future younger player.
