I honestly would give it an A- just because of his height.  You usually don't draft a guy his height rd 1...but I strongly believe in his upside and ability and be okay with the pick.  I graded it an A because the option isn't there, but even if Cooks develops into something special, I still feel a 5'9 WR this high is a bit of a reach.  I'd love to move back to 24-25, still land him, and grab a future 2 or 3 in 2015.

I would love for this to happen. Him or Beckham but knowing the Jets lets prepare for a CB which is also a need or DL. I know some people hate player comparisons and many compare him to Steve Smith but to me he's more like Desean Jackson. There similar in size, speed and both have great hands.

I graded it a B.  I don't know much about the kid and I graded it a B just off the talent I'm hearing he displayed on the field.  I'm not to hype on him because of his size and picking him or any WR that size at #18.  We have a small explosive WR in Kerley IMO, he just needs to stay healthy and on the field to display it.  Plus, Jacoby Ford is a Jet now who is small and explosive also.  We need a bigger WR to be a #1 option or take the pressure off Decker being the #1 option.  I'd say at #18 they go Lee, Benjamin, Beckham Jr or Jones.  With Decker, Nelson, Hill, a rookie bigger WR (whomever), combined with Kerley and Ford I think it makes the Jets a tuff team to deal with!!!

Based on what I saw last year, if Idzik drafts him, I'm going to love him. If his speed puts him two or three yards ahead of the nearest defender it won't matter how tall he is. Besides between Hill, Decker and Nelson we have plenty of size, what we desperately need is someone to take the top off of the defense and Cooks can do that consistently.

...except DJax is a 169lbs weakling and Cooks is 190 and benched as much as Watkins and more than Evans and Benjamin;hence, the comparison.

I gave it a B+ mainly because I believe he will be a slot receiver. I like him. I don't believe CB will be a top priority as Idzik will take best available player regardless what we need.

Why is he a slot WR? Try not to say something cliche like because he's short...because that would be a stereotype. Are all short WRs created equal? Guess your answer is yes...

Re: Grade the Pick: Oregon State WR Brandin Cooks

It seems most (not all) posters would like Cooks at 18. I'm starting to think he will be gone at 18. Rumors have 4 or 5 teams looking for WR help before we draft. Still rumors are started by writers who have nothing else to write about, so they make up there own theories. We all know the needs we want, but the front office may already be happy with the WR position and is looking elsewhere to improve the team.

Would give us a better and stronger receiver than T Austin, who supposedly we were very hot for last year. I agree that we ought not to blindly categorize WRs as slot vs X vs Y , particularly with MM as OC. He moves guys around quite a bit, and was pretty successful using DJackson (all of 5'10" and 170 lbs) as an outside threat.  Also, Geno had real nice success with a shorter quicker guy in Austin, so why not try and replicate that tandem.

Jetman55, Am I not allowed to give my opinion! You have me being a stereotype because I believe he would be a fantastic slot receiver. I left this board yrs ago because of people like you.  Next time you have a problem with my post send me an e-mail instead of calling me a stereotype and making up your own accusations! Be a little more professional!

Didn't recognize the paper thin skin. I apologize for the vague, indirect "insult." If you read the post, I asked for a non-cliche response that isn't stereotypical. I also said I guess you're response is yes, I didn't say anything definitive. But again, sorry if saying "I guess" and "please dont" was insulting...

I honestly think after watching every video I can find, that Odell Beckham Jr. is a better WR than Cooks.

Go Jets...Cyborg

Hard to overlook the crazy production that Cooks had, plus the measurables. Do you think that the production was due in large part to the conference he played in?  I'm a little torn between the two, and think that the tie-breaker could be the ST coach that we just hired from LSU.

I think he is the closest thing to Desean Jackson  minus the nonnsense.
If we go receiver (I'M still hoping for Dennard) I hope he is the pick

You could be right.  I honestly think it is splitting hairs between the two.  I do like Beckham's huge hands.  A WR and QB having large hands is generally value added.  I just have a feeling he doesn't make it past the Steelers who drafted a similar prospect a few years back named Santonio Holmes.  He didn't have that much baggage coming out of Ohio State, but had a similar scouting report coming out of college in terms of skill sets he'd bring to the WR core, IMO.

Well, at least somebody understood I was speaking about the incivility of the exchange, rather than taking a side.

Nothing in my post would suggest I took a side.

Nope. I don't see the least bit of evidence that I took a side in this latest flame war.

But that doesn't matter. Evidence rarely does.
