Joe McKnight fails N.Y. Jets' conditioning test

Joe McKnight fails N.Y. Jets' conditioning test

Joe McKnight once taught us that being out of shape and actively participating in an NFL practice can lead to very bad times.

Despite that very public lesson, the New York Jets' reserve running back has run into condition issues once again.

ESPNNewYork.com reported Thursdaythat McKnight was placed on the physically unable to perform list because he failed the team's conditioning test, according to a source.

It's not a good look for McKnight, who's no lock to make the roster as he enters his fourth season with the Jets. The former fourth-round draft pick has proved himself to be a strong special teams returner, but he's never carved out a role on offense. McKnight famously said he never had a single conversation with former offensive coordinator Tony Sparano.

The fact that McKnight failed the conditioning test is also a bit head-scratching when you recall what he said in May after the Jets acquired Chris Ivory and Mike Goodson.

"Like I said, I don't care who they bring in," McKnight said. "They're going to have to kill me to take my spot. So, whoever they bring in, I don't care."

His spot will be far easier to take if he's not on the field.

McKnight has to get his act together.  Joe has enormous potential and ability.  He's a dumb ass if he doesn't seize this opportunity.
All in all, with Joe and Mike Goodson missing time, i wouldn't be in the least state of shock if an unknown RB surfaces as our scat back-John Griffin

This may be the final nail in Joe's Jet career. We have legitimate options at running back and returner, so for him to fail conditioning is inexcusable.

Jets & Hawkeyes. I must enjoy torturing myself. >.<

There seems to be some debate about if he failed a conditioning test or has a non-football injury.

Still a Dolphins fan but I've come to like this site and I like and respect a lot of the posters here.

(Unlike the freaking ******* Patriots fans at their site)

This is brutal...the guy has the talent, and has done nothing to take his pro career seriously. So unprofessional.

Meanwhile, as long as Goodson stays out of serious legal trouble, McKnight couldn't be more expendable.

To defend the patriots fan, if we won 3 trophies in the last 10 years, I can only imagine the arrogance of a NYJ fan.

Re: Joe McKnight fails N.Y. Jets' conditioning test

Last July many on this site were in love with Terrance Ganaway and all hope was lost on Bilal Powell.  I merely point that out because I still believe McKnight can do something for this team.  No one suffered more than McKnight did over the last few years regarding the lack of a professional offensive system.  I think McKnight can (and will) be an effective weapon catching passes out of the backfield.

Hey, a girl can dream, can't she?

If McKnight had any common sense, he would have come to camp in the best shape of his life, after the Jets acquired Ivory & Goodson ? He needs to get his act together if he wants to make the 53.

Go Jets...Cyborg

Re: Joe McKnight fails N.Y. Jets' conditioning test

My problem is more with the fact that Pats fans largely didn't exist before their title run. The Patriots were what New Englanders did between when the Sox got eliminated and when pitchers and catchers reported.

Now, because of the titles, they're all die-hards. Yet few of them realize the Pats existed before Brady.

It's gotta be a USC thing......... say one thing and do another. Wasn't it just a few short months ago that McKnight claimed "they would have to kill him" to take his roster spot? What happened to that guy?
