Is Hayden Smith TE as good as Tannenbaum said he is ? And what I read about Rontez Miles S, he is looking very good in camp ? It will be real tough to cut down to 53 IMO.noidea

I'll go out on a limb and project Miles as a lock this year because of ST ability.  Long term possibility as a starter, particularly with Landry as mentor.  Really think Smith is also gonna contribute mightily this year, particularly if Winslow has any sort of injury setback.  Also think that Sims is a certainty as our #3, as Lee continues to talk about his cannon for an arm.  Arm strength is god-given, but accuracy may be an issue they feel is correctable.

Being a Met fan, how about this comparison, Nolan Ryan had no control, but threw 100mph pitches he tuned in. I like Simms as our # 3 as well.noidea

Update: Tripuka, the backup long snapper, was released today, presumably to clear up roster space for Winslow.

Sorry if this has been rehashed earlier, but is Tripuka any relation to Kelly Tripuka the basketball player?

I came up w/ 49 players in Green and Blue? I don't think they are going to give up on Hayden Smith if he has improved like I'm hearing...

I think Ducasse is all but gone, I could see a player replacing him that is not as good as him right now but could be better, You have to feel that the ceiling is known for Ducasse.

RE: Updated guess at 53 man roster after mini-camp

If it comes down to Campbell or Ducasse, you gotta figure Vlad is gone, even if as you say Campbell won't be ready this year, he has more upside.  Freeman could also take Vlad's spot

I'm not sure Ducasse is eligible for the practice squad, but if so, he might wind up there

I would think if it came down to Campbell vs Ducasse, that Campbell would be the one who goes to the practice squad.  given he's switching positions, it's unlikely he's ready to play this year, which means he's more likely to go unclaimed in waivers and can be signed to our practice squad.  Vlad at a minimum is able to play if needed....I'm not so sure Campbell will be of any use this year.

RE: Updated guess at 53 man roster after mini-camp

I think Willie Colon will be our LG, and Stephen Peterman will be our starting RG.

Brian Winters will be # 3 guard.

Vlad Ducasse, Dalton Freeman is actually a center, Schlauderaff & Will Campbell will battle it out for the # 4 guard spot.

I wish we would leave Will Campbell 6'4"/311 on the DL instead of switching him to guard. He looked like a stud DL @ Michigan. Maybe Hobson can chime in on his alumni.

not sure what games you were watching where Will Campbell looked like a stud.  for the most part, he had a disappointing Michigan career.  he came in as a highly ranked prospect (5*), and after starting out as an o-lineman (the primary position he was recruited for), was switched to d-line.  he was more of a role player his sophomore and junior years, and broke into the starting lineup his senior year.  he did show some improvement his senior year and showed some flashes of talent and took on a leadership role with the team.  but i would not categorize his play as dominant.  he tended to play too upright and would get blown up on plays due to poor technique (and Michigan has great d-line coaches - the head coach (hoke) and DC (mattison) are both former d-line coaches, to go with a strong d-line position coach).  and most of the pre-draft talk was that nfl teams were looking at him as an o-line prospect, not a d-line prospect.

RE: Updated guess at 53 man roster after mini-camp

Is someone more likely to take Campbell or Ducasse off the Practice Squad?  That might very well be what it comes down to in the end.  It could be one of the really interesting roster battles this summer - Campbell, Ducasse, and Freeman might be fighting for the same spot (even though Freeman is mainly a center)

Being a top 5 National recruit like Will Campbell is huge. Keep in mind that all great H.S. player's (like myself) play both offense & defense and usually never leave the field. I was just as good playing LT as I was DT, and ended up playing TE in College. Good player's can play almost any position asked. Sheldon Richardson @ 260 lbs. was his teams KR & PR in H.S..eek

Lol yeah, gotta keep it interesting...I liked Maher coming out so I may be a bit biased but I feel he could be like a Justin Tucker last year that kind of comes out of nowhere to win the job, Folk's inconsistent enough to make me think he can lose the gig
