outsider looking for opinion of jets fans

hello jets fan,

i am a little bored with baseball so i started to do some analysis on all 32 teams for the upcoming season. i wanted to hear your opinions on the 2013 jets. what are you guys expecting record wise? i think that the jets are in a transition phase. the next two years might be stuck somewhere between 6 to 8 wins. i think your defense is still going to be very strong. the jets d-line with wilkerson and richardson is going to be brutal. milliner and cromartie are going to be elite. i don't know about the jets pass rush.

what's the deal with the offense? do you guys think that geno should start or wait a year or two? my guess is that the jets could fall anywhere between 4-12 and 7-9.

Regarding the pass rush, I expect the Jets to get a lot more push this year. We added Antwan Barnes on the edge, and solidified the interior pass rush on the defensive line. Other than a starting safety spot, the defense looks like it should be fine.

The biggest question for me is the transition into a WCO with the current players we have. The WR unit has two big issues surrounding when Holmes is coming back, and if he'll be effective right away, and second year man Stephen Hill, who's got to get better holding onto the ball. The addition of Kellen Winslow should help. And the running game could surprise a lot of people this season with Chris Ivory and Mike Goodson. The offensive line has been restocked with a mix of rookies and veteran stopgaps. The line should improve over last season.

Overall, your record prediction seems about right. I see it being as good as 9-7, assuming a QB emerges or plays better, and as bad as 4-12 if the QB play stinks and the WR position falls apart.

I'm of the belief that we have quite a bit of young talent throughout our roster, and this season will be about our young bucks getting experience and growing together. We are stuck with Sanchez for this season, and I believe that is a significant factor in our potential ceiling this season. We have 3 drafted rookies joining our offensive line, which improves athleticism and depth. Chris Ivory will shine as the lead back, and hopefully Mike Goodson can settle these legal issues and become our lightning to Ivory's thunder. Our receiving corp and tight ends are a glaring weakness, with Stephen Hill unable to catch consistently and Holmes rehabbing the lisfranc injury. Keller left to Miami, so the rejuvenated Kellen Winslow has a chance to contribute this year if he can maintain health. Otherwise, it is Cumberland/Reuland/Smith. Our defense is younger and faster, and I believe we will continue to sport a top 10 defense.

Jets & Hawkeyes. I must enjoy torturing myself. >.<

When our receivers become healthy they could be very good. The trio was healthy as a group for game 1 last year and that is it....and that one game was great. I think too much is being made of Hill's hands, repetition/experience will help there. His best play last season was his 2nd TD in game one on the short cross...hope to see more of that in the WCO. The defense imo has more talent than the one that finished last season with small concerns at ILB and safety...if those two positions are settled the defense could be top 5 with a little help from MM and the offense.

As for 2-3 years of mediocrity, if our QB situation is settled at the end of the season, the team has set itself up to be contenders after next draft and off-season...IMO.

Interesting takes. I think that Idzik did a pretty damn good job this offseason. He couldn't really spend much money. Getting 2 quality prospects in the 1st round was huge. Milliner and Richardson should be impact players. I'm a little surprised that the Saints let Chris Ivory go. I think that the addition of Ivory is going to be one of the best under the radar moves of the offseason. All that is missing is a QB and a WR. Stephen Hill is big and fast but needs to work on his catching. If he learns how to catch, he could be a playmaker.

I think that Sanchez is done, but it's probably would be a good idea to let him start this year. Geno Smith would benefit more from sitting and learning. Smith with proper coaching could turn into a nice QB. His mobility is a plus. I don't think he had accuracy issues in college. All he needs is coaching. The Jets won't be down for long. Maybe a year or 2 of mediocrity before they're back. All of that depends on how long it takes Geno to learn how to play in the NFL. Hell if Sanchez can get his head out of his butt the Jets could make some noise this year. Too much talent on the defense to not make some noise.

Dear brownsfan1993:

Go for 8-8 and spend the time looking at harder teams to figure out.
This is a transitional year, regardless of what the eternal optimists want to proclaim.
The defense got marginally better and more well-rounded, in spite of losing Mevis.

The offense is a new one for a Jets team and there will be struggles with it until at least half-way through the season.
I have strong feelings that eventually the WCO is exactly what this team needs to get to the championship level and possibly win a Lombardi - but that run will not start until 2014, or possibly later if Geno Smith isn't a lot better than billed.
