Most mocks seem to agree on the Top 3 picks

Doesn't mean its going to happen that way, but most mock drafts have

KC Luke Joecel OT
JAX Dion Jordan LB
OAK Sharif Floyd DT

After that there is wide disagreement, but this seems to be the consensus on the next 5

Eagles DT Star Lotulelei (maybe OT Eric Fisher)
Lions OT Eric Fisher
Browns CB Dee Milliner
Cardinals OT Lane Johnson (If they get Carson Palmer from Raiders, QB Geno Smith if not)
Bills WR Corderelle Patterson (G Chance Warmack?)

If things work out this way, we could be looking at G Warmack or Cooper, a group of edge rushers (Mingo, Ansah, Jones), the #2 CB (if we trade Revis), or even the #2 WR - Austin probably. If he Eagles take Fisher at #4 and Lotulelei drops to us, then that is an option too. Of course, in this scenario, somebody might want to trade up for Geno Smith if he is still on the board

A trade down for someone who wants Smith, provided it is early enough < #20, might be the way to go.  However, if Ansah is available I could see us taking him.  If Rex is working out Hunt and actually likes him, I think he would love Ansah.

Just guessing here of course but maybe Hunt is Rex's ace in the hole. If we can trade 9 for 2 picks with one of them being later in round one then there's a good chance that the name OLB's are gone. Hunt may be stretch at 9 but much less of a stretch in the 20's.

I don't know what mocks you have been looking at, young fells, but I have seen few without Ansah in the top 3 and I have seen zero with him in the top 5...

Well pardon me...they must have been sitting beside each other while they made these. pirate

Anyway, these were all done between March 18th and the 27th...before the Kolb deal was done and the Flynn and Carson moves were on the way.  I think that will reshape everyone giving Bills Geno.

No Top 10 RBs this year - if we wanted a RB, we could get a good one trading back or even at #39

Starting to feel it won't be a surprise to see Geno sitting there @ 9 now...I heard Chip Kelly feels he doesn't need a franchise QB to run his O so they might go for Manuel or Scott later in the draft...if the Jags, Browns and Bills pass I expect him to be there....will be interesting to see what happens

Do you think we take or pass on him?  I honestly don't think we'll take him.

Idk...knowing the Jets I'd think they would take him but maybe the half new regime (Idzik) would prove me wrong...also depends how high on our board he is

Sanchez could be the poster child for passing on all of these QBs, early in the draft.

IMO Geno at 9 falls under the cautious heading of "once bitten twice shy"

Re: Most mocks seem to agree on the Top 3 picks

Taking a QB in this years draft class at 9 would be an inexcusable mistake.  The Jets have too many holes to select a new franchise signal caller.
Idzik would be placing the pressure of the world on any of these kids shoulders to eventually fail.  The Jets have No O-line.  No RB, no Tight End No Legit WR opposite of Holmes.
I feel John will do the right thing and select the best players available that can help this team NOW and upgrade the position.
I feel we should have 3-4 starters by the time round 3 comes along to select a QB to groom.
What i can't comprehend is the notion of selecting Geno SMith with Rex presumably being on the hot seat being a lame duck.  What if next year we have a new coach who doesn't believe in Geno, then we wasted a 1st round pick instead we could have shored up our O-line, gotten a pass rusher or a play maker on offense.
Selecting a QB in this years crop @ 9 would be a decision that would have been made back in the 80's & 90's when we would be the laughingstock at choosing players in the draft.

Warmack
Jordan
Mingo {who im not high on, but rather him than Geno}
Jarvis Jones {See Mingo}
Patterson
Austin
Jonathon Cooper
Damontre Moore

These are players that the team can build with as opposed to taking an extreme chance with one QB who is the best of an average group.

Re: Most mocks seem to agree on the Top 3 picks

Whoa, whoa, whoa

Geno sitting behind Garrard for a year would be a great thing.  I sit here reading about how bad it would be to draft a guy who completed 72% of his passes last year, 42 TDs, and 6 INTs.  Thorw out all the names you want, Colt Brennan, Timmy Chang, etc, but show me the one that did it in a major conference back to back years and put up similar stats...

Timmy Chang never completed 60% of his passes, let alone 70%...
Colt Brennan did complete 73% 50+ TDs and 12 INTs...but didn't play anyone.

If there is a former collge QB I'd compare Geno to...it is this guy:

http://www.sports-reference.co...nnington-1.html

Another weak QB class with a ton of execuses why he should be the only 1st rd QB taken, and some pople said Chris Redman was better than him when he came out (Brian Billick said Redman was better than Chad, like some people are saying barkley or manuel may be better than Geno).

It remains to be seen, but drafting Geno wouln't be the end of the world as some people are predicting...just a little surprising...that he is even that...

Re: Most mocks seem to agree on the Top 3 picks

The question is can we get a guy in the 2nd or 3rd round to sit on the bench for 2-3 years and be a quality NFL QB at that time?  If we take Geno at #9, it's going to be hard to just let him sit for a couple of years, the fans and media will be going ape$#+ every time the starter throws an incompletion

After reading this report, there is no way I'd want G Smith.  Full disclosure, I never wanted him.  I never got caught up in the hype.
