He will be and there may be more. There will also be contracts restructured and some players will be have to take a pay cut.  As of right now we are $3 million under the cap (per the article) with those four players cut.

appl.gifReach Smith SS has finally been cut.

I'm sort of surprised that Josh Baker H-Back has been cut ?

Can Jason Smith T come back with a re-structured deal ?

Go Jets...Cyborg

Any of them can come back on restructured deal. They now become free agents.

So that is $30+ million in cap savings for little to no 2012 production. Good start. Now the interesting restructuring, trades, and free agency work starts. From now to the end of April should be fun.

RE: Cuts for the 2013 Season

It seems like we are about $12 million under the cap now. With a little restrucutring should be able to get $15-18 million under the cap. They did what they had to do. Would not be shocked to Scott come back as a backup but would not be disappointed to see another team overpay for him.

What is the NFL salary cap? Just wondering how far under the cap we are right now by releasing only 5 players.

RE: Cuts for the 2013 Season

Reading a couple of different articles its hard to get a fix on exactly how much under the cap we are. I've saw an article from the Poughkeepsie journal that says we are right at about the cap to articles that seem to indicate we are about $12 million under. Does anyone know any reliable site which would have to date info on our cap.

Just like that, the Jets created $30.7 million in cap relief. It puts them about $5.7 million under the cap.

Five million ??? What the hell is the cap this year ??? Every article I read said we were $19.5 over the cap so shouldn't we be about $11-12 million under ??
