Ex All Pro Tim McDonald to be DB coach

Ex All Pro Tim McDonald to be DB coach

Good hire.  He played with Dennis Thurman at USC.  He was Fresno State DB coach this past year.  He developed S Phillip Thomas at Fresno State into All- American and his son TJ McDonald plays S at USC.  I would say we might draft one of these guys and resign Bell to teach him.

I wish we could get our hands on both Thomas and McDonald; but lik eyou said, hopefully we land one.

This is the sort of hire I have always talked about, and that the Jets seemed to muff perennially.
Get position coaches that actually played the game at a high level, or at least PLAYED it at some level beyond H.S. and know what the hell they are talking about.

Players respect these kinds of position coaches and take to being instructed by them much better than some yayhoo from Northern Montana Polytechnical Junior college who played badmitten, majored in Communications and Public Relations, and then had an epiphany at some point and decided they wanted to coach in the NFL instead.

...I really hope Thomas falls to rd 3 and he talks us into drafting him.  Will be funny if he has to pick between Thomas and McDonald and the rumor circulates he picked Thomas (I could see him not wanting to coach his son).  If we take Thomas rd 3 and McDonald falls to rd 4, BPA would likely be McDonald and those 2 safeties would be very good for a decade, IMO.  Both can cover and both can hit.

I wanted TJ McDonald last year in the draft, until he decided to go back for his senior year.

TJ made a big hit in the Senior Bowl, then got torched by a 270 TE on the next play.

if you're lucky, both are Jets next year (McDonald and Williams).  ...but Williams may have elevated his draft status this past week to a 3rd rd pick.  You have a lot of prospects you like in that range (Manuel, McDonald, Williams, etc).  Maybe Williams will fall to the 4th.

Rambo & Lester looked like the best safeties in the Senior Bowl.

I liked that big guard from Kentucky and Fisher looks like a great tackle.

Not many CB's in this draft. I like the kid from FSU more than Dee Milliner.

The kid from Kentuckey at OG did look great at times but got abused when matched one-on-one with Short DT Purdue, who I've been saying should grade out as high as Star.  He had a horrible week of practice and was getting ragged on, then the game started and the kid couldn't be stopped.

Jones DE from UCLA was awesome, as was Johnson OT OU.  I still love Trufant CB Wash (one of the 3 Trufant brothers).  Long at OG also looked very good pulling and leading for Franklin.  He just plays well in space.  I think Long is a solid 2nd rd pick, IMO.  the kid from Kentuckey is better as a road grader and Long is better in space.

Wilson CB UConn is also very good.
