Jet Bashing Craze

Jet Bashing Craze

I can't believe how they are getting killed because of the time delay on the GM search. . . Greeny, Loudmouths, Cimini, etc. I was listening to the Michael Kay show today and they had segment with Chris Mortenson. They introduced the segment asking how bad things were with the Jets.

Mort reports the following:
  • He could think of many football guys would love the job. . .named several.
  • Only hearsay so far is that there hasn't been a football guy in the room, nothing else bad.
  • Most of the guys he mentioned would love to have Rex as HC
  • This is not a national story, they are focused on HC positions.

Kay and LaGreca spend the next 10 minutes trying to find out where the Jets went wrong. Is Woody too controlling making them keep Rex? Should they interview differently?

What a joke. The only people who know anything are Woody, the guy interviewing and a handful of others. Rather than praising them for taking their time, they harp on how bad things are. Drives me nuts!

Lastly, the fact that coaches are leaving and that they are making changes is a good thing. We need a fresh start. Doesn't seem like the NY media sees it that way and many of them just keep bashing. Ugh!!

Re: Jet Bashing Craze

i don't know why the media does this. They must find that their ratings go up with the negative stuff. I got to believe that people in football really don't pay attention to this.

Hating on the Jets is the cool thing to do these days. The media is just upset that they can't use buttfumble over and over when it comes to business decisions. They're also realizing that stories about tattoos don't sell anymore. You notice that ever since that incident, our beat writers have been talking more football and less tabloid nonsense.

Hell, that tattoo story was all the rage for a day and a half. Then...nothingness. Woody is going to make our franchise very successful, very soon.

RE: Jet Bashing Craze

All good posts guys and I completely agree...it's definitely tough of a Jets fan having to listen/read anything from the NY media or mainstream media in general...but give us a few years and I think we'll hopefully have built a team through the draft that competes on a consistent basis...and then the media will have to find a new whipping boy, I just find it hysterical how the Bills were the media darlings in the offseason yet they did worse than us! and there is no such bashing of the Bills...or Cardinals (one of Adam Schein's favorite teams this year)...or Chiefs (another media darling that was actually picked to win the division)...or the Buccaneers (another media darling of the offseason that was going to get a wild card spot)...or even the Super Bowl Champ Giants that were a lock to go back to the playoffs...ridiculous, can probably even add the Lions and Bears in there too, so many disappointing teams that the media endlessly hyped up yet the Jets are the only team getting blatantly based non-stop...don't forget the Steelers either who many picked to win the division yet we don't hear a peep about them...or even everyone's sexy Super Bowl pick THE EAGLES (although I will say I thought they would win the division as well), even though I have heard some slight bashing of the Eagles but nothing on par with the Jets bashing that constantly goes on...

Yeah, I hear that...guess it's just a side effect of being in a team in the largest media market in the country

I agree with everything that has been written but the team/FO help create this as well.

From Selftonio's meltdown to the players commenting on the fracturing of the lockerroom to Rex's larger than life personality and sometimes foolish/naive statements to the trade for one of the most polarizing players IN ANY SPORT, the Jets brought some of this on themselves.

Remember also that negative news tends to get blown up more and get carried further than positive news.

Give me that "dirty laundry"

We got bashed in 2009 and 2010 as well. Mike Francessa led the way. Personal agendas out weigh whatever production we have on the field.

You know I don't think that would be true actually, If we were 2 years removed from the superbowl, say we beat the steelers and then we beat Arizona in the bowl.  I think right now you would be experiencing the same things.  Just the nature of the media. noidea

Instant news, 24/7, in the big city.  They have to talk about something to keep a following and it's worse-more competitive than ever with Twitter, Blogs and not traditional ways to get news out.  Reporters have TV shows/segments - they think they're the star.  They become the news themselves and need to splash.

I think it's funny (and someone else - forgive me - mentioned it first) that the news was coming fast with stories, sources and now?  re-tweets of others, lots more speculation and opinion (with no source).  Maybe the Jets have really tightened things up.  Was it Rex?  Pettine?  Others?  I don't care, but now that we really want an inside story there's none noidea

As to the bashing, it's just fashionable to bash the Jets.  They brought it on themselves.  Now fix it, so it stops (win).  Under promise and deliver more, please.

If I were running the Jets I put the entire organization on a gag order and no one speaks to the press. I don't know if the NFL allows that but it would piss off the "sports writers" covering the Jets. I would love to see them have a hissy fit!!

There two equations to solve with regards to the media bashing. Just look at the Giants. They won a Superbowl and don't have from GM to coach saying or doing anything that really brings negative attention to the team. They got out scored like 80-7 down the stretch and the media really gave them a pass..

So yes the bashing wouldn't stop if Rex does win a Superbowl and screws up the following year, however, I don't think anyone of us would care cause we'd still be in a euphoric state biggrin

Loudmouth morons at it again today. Bashing the fact that two of the candidates are cap guys. If the picked a football guy they would complain about the cap. They are portraying the GM search as if no one wants it AGAIN. That keeping Rex is an unsurmountable problem. Turtle head Carlins says we all know Rex is running the show.

I swear they read the headlines and just reiterate what they read. No sources, no research, no journalism. Horrible.

Carlin is a Francessa guy. He needs to get Mike's message out on SNY.

Re: Jet Bashing Craze

The Jets should draft linebacker Manti Te’o, if for no reason other than gratitude.

Te’o's travails have made us all forget, for a while, the dysfunction enveloping the New York Jets.  But we’ll be reminded of it soon, when the Jets hire a General Manager.

According to Brian Costello of the New York Post, that hire is coming on Thursday or Friday.

Roughly 10 candidates were interviewed, and an unknown number of them were interviewed a second time in New York this week.  The finalists are believed to be John Idzik of the Seahawks (pictured), Omar Khan of the Steelers, and Jets assistant G.M. Scott Cohen.

Whatever the Jets do, the move will be criticized and the G.M. will be scrutinized and another bad season could get everyone fired in 2014.blah2

This guy Florio is the worst!
